You're talking about Colloseum compared to X/Y right because I'm pretty sure Colloseum/XD is not that much slower then the other Pokeman games. And I think it might be a little faster then gen 4 but then again that isn't much of an accomplishment.

I played through them relatively recently and they're still pretty slow. Admittidly, a lot of this isn't just on the attack animations (though that's a big thing), but also the hit animations and just myriad other things that all add up to a slow experience.
Whatever the case I just checked out some X footage again and goddamn it IS fast. Thank god. Gamespeed is actually something that is pretty important to me...........lol. Just watch. It'll be all fast in battles and then just like in Black and White the menus are irritatingly slow for some reason. Count on it.

Wish we saw them mess with the bag & menus a little, though. Probably too many spoilers in the key item pocket though
 
I'm very, very glad that Game Freak has been focusing on swift flowing battles in their latest games.
Speeds such as seen in DP is something I'd rather never have to endure again.
 
I betcha there will be a big reveal in August, and one in September. Hopefully we'll get a count on exactly what the new Mons' base stats are (for now, we do have hints, at least for hp), exactly which 'Mons from gens 1-5 are going Fairy (we know three of them so far), all the types of the Gyms (so far, we have Rock, Bug, and Electric, Bug being the first Gym, and I'm leaning towards any five of Grass, Fire, Water, Ice, Dark or Fairy), which types are used by the Elite Four and Champion (among whatever types aren't covered among Gyms), and what abilities (including hidden) the new 'Mons have. Moves (including updates of classic moves) and items are on the agenda as well, and so is backwards compatibility with Black/Black 2/White/White 2.

You're expecting too much from Pokemon Smash. Most of the stuff they reveal are stuff already revealed via CoroCoro scans, and I'm pretty sure CoroCoro scans won't reveal this much so.....
 
Dudes, don't suffer that much with Corocoro. After X/Y gets released you won't remember it until next game. If there's something useful in pokemon smash other that chokotan screaming and a dancing lucario then it's great!

While I agreed that Newtwo may not be nice flavor-wise at the moment, it is interesting to speculate about it's potential stat spread. A spread of 106/90/90/164/90/140 will essentially make it the perfect Pokemon stat-wise. Of course Gamefreak will not give a 680 bst legendary three base 90 base stat, but one can only hope.

Note: this is not baseless speculating since Newtwo was shown to be quite speedy in the new movies. It is virtually given, for example, that Newtwo won't go defensive.
 
What makes me wonder is that if Newtwo is "less" defensive than Mewtwo. Would it get less than 90 base defenses (Which are Mewtwo's defense stats). I don't see this as likely. Correct if I'm wrong, but aren't insane BST Ubers never have a base stat under 90?

Also, it could just be... faster. However, would this mean more SpA or less? It's also possible Newtwo has less HP. Hmm.
 
@SMZ: Yeah, I've checked. Literally the only two Pokemon with a BST over 600 and a base stat under 90 are Slaking (Base 65 SpD) and Regigigas (Base 80 SpA).
 
It's mostly just to balance the legends out if anything. I mean, most mons except mixed attacking only utilize one of their offensive stats.

Example: Assuming Newtwo has 680 bst and psystrike a base 10 attack stats would actually make it overpowered.

I think the games are going to deviate from each other when we learn just what Team Flare plans on doing that causes the legendary to appear. I see it like, they'll either do something that threatens the balance of life, or they're going to do something that requires some heavy destruction for things to go back to normal.

this...is still out there. It's like, they revealed Victini, but you had to download a thingy to see it, so I also think there's a good chance that Mewtwo will be the first event -mon of the generation.
 
Why isn't there any Pokemon with a non-existent Attack Stat and have it all in other Stats instead (And vice versa is some cases)? I mean, you can look at Spiritomb.. how the hell will it execute a Physical Move? 108/0/108/108/108/36 would be genuine Stats for it. Sure, that would make Spiritomb too OP.. I'm just saying that GF should make Pokemon with similar Stats. A Physical Counterpart would be Machamp: 90/130/115/0/115/55.

Also, I think CoroCoro will leak earlier this time, like on the 10th (I think it was mentioned somewhere, I'm not sure).. and it better have the scoop of the century.

what's the point of having physical and special attacks if everything would just become a specialist in one or the other?
Furthermore, what's the point of having a metagame with variety in it if all Pokemon get classed into attackers, special attackers, walls and speedy guys?

I didn't say every Pokemon. Just selected ones. Lucario can be both Physical and Special, you can see that. But I just can't picture Spiritomb executing a Physical move other than Tackle.

Still, it has to stay like that. It's kind of "objectifying" certain Pokemon because of their design/base spread.
 
Yes, but everything has to have the ability to use different types of attacks, like how almost every person has the ability to both throw a rock and splash water. Some people are better at one than the other, but that doesn't mean a non-specialist isn't allowed to do something they aren't great at, even though their specialty would dissuade them from trying something else. While throwing a rock and splashing are bad examples of what we are born specialists at irl, I think it helps serve the point that the force behind an attack doesn't just come from the base power of the technique being used. Please bear with me here.
Pretend that a stone the size of your thumb has a base power of 20. If you plan on using the stone to harm someone else, it won't be very effective unless you put some force behind it to make it move (the method used to hurt someone else with the rock is like your base Atk). The same logic is applied to splashing water. If a splash was intended to get somebody as wet as possible, then you might mean to move several fluid cups of water to hit someone else. Let's pretend further that a splash that you create contains a pint of water and has a base power of 35. It's a special move, so it'll make contact differently that the rock, which was physical. if there's a pint of water sitting in front of you, it's not going to accomplish what you want until you apply the power you personally would put into a special attack to make it hit someone else. If you completely lacked the ability to make the water move, you would have a SpAtk stat of 0. This is actually replicated in the damage formula that the games use. Part of the formula divides your Atk by the opponent's Def. If you used Rock Throw and had a base attack power of 0, the game wouldn't even recognize the attack because 0 is the numerator. That fraction is multiplied to a couple of other fractions that are made up of other statistics which is then multiplied by a modifier. all that multiplication means that you end up with an incredibly small amount of damage dealt because of a little bit of addition saving the damage value from just being 0.
The point is that, in between Dynamic Punch and Aura Sphere, it's obvious that you'd want a Machamp to use the attack that his stats are better suited to capitalize on. Just because it shouldn't use Aura Sphere over D-Punch because it won't hit nearly as hard doesn't mean that Machamp shouldn't be able to use special techniques at all. It isn't "natural".

I understand your complaint, though. While there are certain Pokemon who already have specialized stats, like Breloom and Blissey, they already came with their stats, and they aren't very keen on editing former stat spreads of old Pokemon who would arguably do better with some reorganized stats. That isn't to say that there won't be a new hyper-specialized Fighting type that's everything Machamp could have been if it's Spatk stat was lowered in favor of his defense or speed stats, but...
 
Talking about objectifying Pokemon, we have Mons like Alakazam and Machamp which are your sterotypical special attacker and physical attacker. That got me thinking why are special attacker generally faster than their physical counterpart? I mean is it because, for example, Alakazam's mind speed is faster than Machamp's physical speed?

That got me thinking: What if the scoop of the century is special and physical speed split?!?!?

Special attacks will utilize special speed while physical attack will utilize physical speed!

I just realized that I am a genius.
