Pokémon XY General Discussion

I have. It's way overhyped.

Okay, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the game "X" has incredible graphics by WiiU standards. That was the point - don't stray so far from it.

There's no reason the screenshot couldn't be a WiiU Stadium game. The gamepad would probably take care of all the UI anyway, so the TV would provide a clean image like the one we see. I can't imagine a Street-Fighter-esque Pokemon game. That seems like such a waste of time and resources. They'd still have to do a ton of 3D models and environments but it wouldn't sell nearly as well as a Stadium game.

So am I gonna have to be the first one to say that it's "OMG SO COOL" that the trainers have winning and losing reactions? Because OMG THAT'S SO COOL!

And yea, despite the fact that the animations are pretty sweet, the battles are still fairly short. Sure, MegaTwo finished everything in four moves, but the attacks were still quick. It helps that the fainting animations are so short and sweet and not that melodramtic "oh no, I've lost good sir, allow me to drop to one knee and concede defeat before you" stuff from the console games.

I'm pretty confidant that a Pokemon fighting game would do pretty well.

Anyway. Running is automatic right? And to walk you need to hold the B button or something? Why the fuck can't you just tilt the damn circle pad or whatever? Isn't that the goddamn point of analog?

I must have not read something properly because that makes no sense.

While there are other games on the 3DS from other franchises that use a sensitive joy stick to decide whether you're walking or running, main series Pokémon doesn't work that way.
And no, joy sticks were not originally made with the intent of deciding the speed at which you're traveling. That much is an addition to its uses created by recent game development.

No move slot is given up.
Hey, anyone else noticed the pokemon on the screen. It doesn't match any of the pokemon from which we know that they get a mega-evolution. I suspect it's a Crobat because it appears to be flying, it's purple and because it has these little tufts at the bottom which kind of matches with the feet of Crobat.

You know, since it's now a fully 3D environment with gorgeous backgrounds and we have diagonal movement, I just might walk more often. I mean, I walked on Sky Arrow Bridge because it was so cool. Sure, I'll still run most of the time, but I'll stop to smell the flowers fairly often, I'm sure.

The Wii U isn't exactly in a position to waste an opportunity of a game that sells like hotcakes for a game that would "do pretty well." The idea might have legitimate grounds at the end of the cycle, like those wacky PokePark games for the Wii.

One thing I should mention: the Mega Pokemon may cause tension because suspects of Ou-ubers. An example is Blaziken. I really do not think that Blaziken will not break OU, because it will still be a terrifying sweeper that every team will need a check to in Ou. In Ubers, it will be entirely outclassed by Mega Blaziken. Maybe we create a tierin between?

Wut is this ...

Of course it's a crobat

I think it's a little early to be talking about tiers. We know barely anything about the competitive scene, we don't know most of the new pokemon, moves or abilities.

You must not have seen the game "X" by Monolith Soft

...Which looks nowhere close to that teaser or better yet, significantly better than any of the best looking games in the 7th generation.

The Pokemon in use is a Mewtwo, not a Crobat.

I am only trying to bring up a point - there may be a little tension between Ou and ubers with these Mega Pokemon -Blaziken and Mega Blaziken? Evn more frightening - Mewtwo and Mega Mewtwo. Why the hell would we ever unban MEWTWO from Ou...

How hard can it be to be able to walk with a tilt and run with a max tilt. Pokemon hasn't done that before. That's great. They should do it now. Since they have the ability to.

B button run is seriously........it doesn't need to exist in most traditional RPG's. You need to be able to walk in platform games to make proper jumps and shit but RPG's? What's the damn point? And for Pokemon to not make use of the circle pad functionality when presented with it and use the same b button run only reversed (instead of b to run it's b to walk) is just idiotic. Then again Pokemon is really conservative with how it evolves so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

You don't hold the B button to walk, you tap once and that toggles between speeds.

Also, the 3DS circle pad isn't particularly ideal for variable movement speed compared to a traditional analog stick.

Wii-U is easily capable of the graphics shown in the teaser. They're nothing special.

And he said the Pokemon on the screen, which is indeed Crobat.

If my understanding is correct, Ubers is really more of a ban list you can play in which balancing isn't much of a concern. Also, if Mevos really do cause huge changes that cause many pokemon to be forced down tiers, it might make more sense to simply make PU an official tier rather than stack a new one on top. OR, expand the borderline tiers. BL was pretty big in G/S and R/S.

Gamefreak's been pairing Blaziken and Lucario lately. That image, the initial Megaevo reveal... It's interesting. I wonder what it could mean

It's possible they are just using the images of pokemon they know are popular... though that doesn't explain the lack of Charizard.

EDIT: Perhaps they are the only "super populars" that are available in game? We know Blaziken is attainable.

I never knew Blaziken to be popular after Infernape. I love it but I figured that was just me.
