The apparent Fairy type chart is so clearly a balance bandage it hurts.
- Fighting relations: This makes sense, actually, since fairies are magical beings
- Dark Relations: Again, makes sense. I'll take this chance to point out Gardevoir now stomps Dark-types while being x4 resistant to Fighting.
- Steel Relations: Makes sense. Fairies are linked to nature, it seems, and Steel is 'man-made' and not natural.
- Poison Relations: Makes sense again. Poison finally gets a type it hits SE that's not usually part Poison itself!
Now we get to the more dodgy ones:
- NVE on Fire: This makes sense, as fairies tend to be nature-linked. However, the fact they are also not WEAK to fire is the first clear sign of fairy just being there for balance. Offensive Fire doesn't need help. Defensive Fire does. Also, despite a fire weakness making sense, they can't have that else every dragon would just Fire Blast/Flamethrower.
- Resists Bug: Doesn't make sense. Bugs eat plants and stuff, this just seems to be there to nerf U-Turn spam. A grass resist would have made more sense, but Grass offense doesn't need a nerf.
- Immune to Dragon: Aside from the fact fairies being strong against Dragon doesn't make sense in the first place, an outright immunity is such an obvious 'Fairy is here just for balance!' that it hurts. At least when they introduced Dark as Psychic's bane, it made the 'Three Fears' as Psychic's weaknesses, so Dark
actually made flavor sense.
Honestly after seeing all of those, I was half expecting to read an immunity to Water as well.
Also, Gardevoir is now:
Weak to: Steel, Poison, Ghost
Neutral: Dark, Bug [Previously Weak]
Resists: Psychic
x4 Resists: Fighting
Immune: Dragon
Considering Gardevoir lost two far more common weaknesses than it gained, while also gaining resists, I think Gardevoir might go up a tier or two...
and Honedge too ... He will be weak to Fire, Ground, Dark, Ghost, Fairy !
