The Legend of Korra (Spoilers ITT)

Latest episode delivered, say what you will about Korra but she interrogated a judge by putting his head in Naga's mouth. I now legitimately fear when we see Eska next, if ever and when that happens I will actually fear. Everything with Tenzin and Ikki was great and it would have been easy for Tenzin to learn from Jinora or Meelo (with both being the younger boy of two older siblings) but now we have such a great connection between the kid you didn't think Tenzin had much in common with.

In terms of bad guy stuff maybe it will get to a spitits getting mad "I told you so" or "My plan all along" but we've gotten most of the villain plot out of the way. At least now we don't have to have annoying stuff like thinking Amon is Bumi or Asami.

Korra is way more unique than ang or even roku is as an avatar. I'm pretty sure she was the only one to learn of her bending powers before she was told she was the avatar, and has had practically zero connections to the spirit world ever since. Where aang and roku traveled the world learning not just bending but culture and ways to keep the world in balance, Korra was stuck for 16 years in the south pole basically learning pure combat training. Her perception of the avatar had been built as the image of aang's, who got to win an entire war and recover from genocide. A season of pro-bending didn't exactly steer her away from that either. As VF said things are just not that simple anymore, and even the world doesn't need an avatar anymore, at least in their own eyes. I was waiting for korra to break down after that 5 year old said "you're the worst avatar ever!" Who would have ever said that 100 years ago?

I'm waiting for korra to get killed (or close to it) using the avatar state so she then gets stuck in the spirit world. I'm pretty sure that's how the writers are going to incorporate that. You saw how angry tenzin was when he found out how liberal she's using it.

I also really didn't like how korra's father said "get the president of the united republic on our side." United republic? I'm pretty sure he's the president of republic city...how close are we going to come to implying republic city is the USA or something?

Uhh republic city is the capitol of the united republic of nations, so not sure why that's a big deal. The president presides over the entire nation, not just the one city. They just have the government based there. So yeah saying president of the united republic is entirely accurate.

This kinda gave me vibes of that scene where Kyurem W/B almost kills you in BW2; was I the only one? Suddenly I could tell "oh shit's getting SERIOUS".

I'm curious how this will turn out; I wish I could just time travel forward to the end of this season and watch all of the episodes in a row so I didn't have to deal with fucking cliffhangers...

Really? I was under the impression that there was only republic city. That's all the council ever had decisions over, anyway. It's not that I didn't like it I suppose, my friend and I just burst out laughing when tenzin said "president of the united republic" rather than "president of republic city." This is the first time I've ever heard the place called the "united republic"

well GatoDelFuego, according to the wiki at least that's what it is. I thought the same thing too for a bit but I guess it only seemed that way since republic city was all that was really featured throughout season 1 so you dont really get to see the effects of policy on other places. if more lands are exposed this season then id expect this sorta thing to be more common.

in other korra topics, really likin the potential for some political intrigue right now which would be really interesting. the last episode was just so good. my only thing is that I hope they don't go too fast and then burn out later on, cuz they've done a lot of stuff in the past 4 episodes. thusfar though some of the character developments and stuff have been really nice, hopin they do somethin to make korra a deeper character tho (although she was a total badass this episodes)

Fuck Eska is batshit insane. Fucking scared the shit out of me.

just caught up with the show and i wanna respond to some of the posts i've seen here. i think korra's liberal use of the avatar state is a pretty good foil to how aang could never really control it until the end/when it was a matter of life or death. aang had more worldly experience and a calmer outlook on life, but lacked bending skills because he ran away when he was 12 and had grown up in an isolated air nomad temple. korra has all the bending skills because she's been trained her entire life, but lacks the experience aang had. because of this, she's going to come off as impetuous and as "the worst avatar ever" because her peaceful conflict resolution skills SUCK. she's been taught to fight as the avatar and she needed those skills in republic city where aang would've had a lot of trouble as an avatar, but in conflicts like these her lack of understanding of the clash of cultures and her "fight first, think later" mindset hurt her a lot.

a lot of this plotline reminds me of the atla episode "the great divide" (which was pretty boring but was one of aang's best peaceful resolution moments) where aang being 112 and the avatar gave him perspective on the conflict and led to a resolution, but if you had someone like korra as the avatar at the time, i'm pretty sure they still would've been fighting and they wouldn't have made it out lol

i think korra is a more realistic character though. she's an angsty rebellious teenager who wants to be given adult responsibilities while everyone around her wants to keep her safe.

also i don't think it's ooc for aang to be a less-than-perfect father... he's the avatar and he's also the last airbender, so passing on his legacy is no doubt extremely important to him, and making sure tenzin learns airbending from THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN TEACH IT TO HIM would definitely give aang and tenzin a deeper father/son relationship than kya or bumi had with aang.

this probably doesn't make any sense it's fine

i'm mildly enjoying the season so far i guess

i enjoy the deeper, flawed perspective into aang's character; no idea why people are surprised at adult aang beind somewhat flawed...it's not like kid aang was perfect (insecurities anyone?)

the only thing preventing me from really enjoying the season is how much they are playing up korra's petulance...i get she is a teenager but damn, telling the judge you'll kill him (note, this was before she found out any foul / wrongdoing) because you don't like his decision is...well, beyond the simple teenager petulance level...it kind of signifies a disturbing sense of entitlement (any of which should have been wiped away with the humblings given to her in the first season)

i hope, if nothing else, her near bipolar shifts in attitude / perspective will help her learn that things aren't always as they seem on the surface and she shouldn't jump to conclusions as fast as she does because she might not always have all the information

also, i'm laughing hysterically at TheValkyries yelling at other people for criticizing for "
MY PRECONCEPTIONS OF THESE CHARACTERS ARE BEING CHALLENGED PLS SEND HELP I'M BEING OPPRESSED.
"

too funny

replace "these characters" in that phrase with "how character development should be" (or any component's development should be) and you have 80% of TheValkyries criticisms against any of the works TheValkyries decides to arbitrarily hate on

Yeah, but when eska and desna just demonstrated they actually move FASTER when not using a boat, things start making less sense...

His ideas have been consistently sinister, but have been hiding under that air-headed personality. Bypass the prez for military support, to start a war for Asami to profiteer from. JESUS.

korra and mako noooooooo :(

kinda sad that korra is likely gonna be in the spirit world next episode because i wanted to see what the fire nation is like now.... oh well, spirit world storylines are always interesting for the avatar.

i definitely think that varrick is shady, and the president seemed to know that there's something off.

more general iroh please & thank you korra writers :)

Bending is still likely draining your energy, so it's not like you can keep it up forever. Otherwise, why don't firebenders fly from place to place with their jet-assisted firebending, or hell why don't airbenders fly naturally by bending air around them instead of having to use a glider to bend air under it? So more than likely it's having something convenient so you don't expend as much energy.

Ooh I have an Oddish avatar...

Er I mean, yeah wish Korra was gonna visit the fire nation, but a trip to the spirit world is kinda cool. I still don't get why there are so many "dark" spirits nowdays, I mean most of them were fairly indifferent (unless provoked) in the other book. Would've been cool to see old man Zuko and his daughter.

Korra is really awful in this season, jesus.

I could deal with her 'tude in first 3 episodes, but she was downright psychotic in that last episode.

True, but let's remember that this isn't Aang. This is "I do things MY way" Avatar Korra; she's not level-headed, even with her near loss of powers. She didn't have the teachings of Air Nomads at birth, like Aang did.

korra and mako noooooooo :(

YES. Mako is bad news. :)

Mako prevents Korra from leading a rogue military force to a nation on the brink of civil war, in order to INCITE said civil war, and you have the balls to say MAKO is bad news?
