so if you were to pair this guy up with say a Baton Pass Scolipede... roughly how many speed boosts would it take before this guy is viable to sweep in OU? assuming a couple of sword dances as well.
I definitely wanna try this out. Bp scolipede to malamar might be pretty dangerous.so if you were to pair this guy up with say a Baton Pass Scolipede... roughly how many speed boosts would it take before this guy is viable to sweep in OU? assuming a couple of sword dances as well.

Wouldn't BPing speed to Malamar actually be worse? Thanks to Contrary you're going to end up with one slow Malamar.
And I don't think anyone should be using Malamar without Contrary.
That was castform. Malamar is a frail niche sweeper that can hit switch ins hard while also obtaining boosts. I could easily see the scarf set becoming one of the better cleanup sets this generation and the assualt vest set could be great at sponging some hits while bulking up. Honestly, once malamar is in, the only things switching in are fast ghosts that can ohko it, and bulky flying and bug types. While malamar isnt too difficult to revenge kill, after a super power or two, its bulk is fairly significant.I'm not too keen on the idea of using Malamar........he just seems to me like the word "Gimmick" given a living breathing Pokémon Form.

I'm still hopeful that Malamar turns out to have access to Sucker Punch and Hammer Arm, as that would make her much more viable.
Hammer Arm just seems ill suited to it. Besides, superpower is arguably more effective. Shame it doesn't know sucker punch.
I don't think Malamar is great in singles, but in doubles, I've been using this
Malamar uses Light Screen / Superpower
Goodra uses Draco Meteor
Malamar uses Topsy-Turvy on Goodra
Goodra now has +2 SpA, a free Draco meteor or another move.
I honestly think Malamar will be the Beheeyum of this Gen. That is; gimmicky in singles, but decently powerful in doubles.
I think he may be right. I was really excited the first time I fought a Malamar and it hit with Superpower and got the contrary buffs... but it just doesn't have many options other than gimmicks. Malamar comes out, you know superpower is the next thing coming because it needs the buffs to be viable. Switch in something that resists/is immune to superpower and peel Malamar apart any way you'd like.I'm not too keen on the idea of using Malamar........he just seems to me like the word "Gimmick" given a living breathing Pokémon Form.
Call me when this thing gets Sucker Punch.
I was about to say that it's just a cooler looking Spinda right now but Spinda actually gets Sucker Punch by level-up so +1 for the Panda.
LOL, GF trolled this squid.
