I want to get the Destiny Knot by rematching the young couple. I've fought them 2-3 times but after flying around a few times, they don't want to rematch yet. How does the game determine whether they want to rematch you yet? Is it based on steps?
Also contests seem hard so I won't do those yet.

How do you factor in the burn status for damage calculations?
For example: I used Swords Dance twice (3x Atk) and I got a burn. Will I now be +1 (1.5x Atk) or +2 (2x Atk)?

Use the PS! damage calculator if you want more in depth calculations. You can change your Pokemon's status to 'burned' which affects the calculations...
eg: (I just clicked Swords Dance 'Chomp and OU Usage Rotom because you mentioned Swords Dance and burn...)

So yeah, just like Codraroll said, +4 (which is x3) with a burn is similar to a 1.5 multiplier
You get a new mirage spot every day and you just have to be lucky with which ones you get ;_; (there are 30 possible mirage spots in total and 2 of those contain ditto)
however, mirage spots can also be passed via street pass and the pss, so I recommend logging on the PSS a few times per day and check if one of the mirage spots you receive contains Ditto. otherwise i'm afraid it just comes down to luck :\ (or transferring some from other games)
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this. But some of the legendaries aren't appearing for me (Namely the lake trio and the musketeers). I can go to their locations, but I can't enter their portals. Are there any requirements to fight them, other then the ones you need to get to their locations?

does synchronize work on the legendaries that come out of portals? my bold abra hasn't netted me a bold lugia even once and i've SR'd about 7 times now.

It does, you're just having bad luck.
So what was the "big thing" that would happen if you played the ORAS Demo everyday? The Nugget mission? Seriously? Ugh?
If you've got shards, you can exchange them with the Treasure hunter in Mossdeep for the same stones you could buy in Lumiose. For everything else... not really.
Stones can also be obtained from the Inverse Battle House and certain rematchable trainers. Off the top of my head, the Veteran on the route above Rustboro with the Hariyama eventually starts handing out Sun Stones.
And of course, some are hold items too. The same route I mentioned has Clefairy appear after the Primal Devolution narrative, which can sometimes hold Moon Stones.

I defeated the E4 already, but Groudon didn't respawn. Will it be at the same place as before? Or do I have to beat the Elite again?
It'll be in the Cave of Origin, you don't need to beat it again.
