READ THIS THREAD THOROUGHLY! "tl;dr" IS NOT A GOOD IDEA IN THIS INSTANCE!

Welcome to the new Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion thread. This is a continuation of the original topic started by CasMat. The old thread located here was decided that it went out of hand and that users’ posts were degrading fast. So, it was decided that, due to the size of the original thread, that the old one would be closed and that a new one would be made. This would allow people to control and concentrate their thoughts more, thus improving the quality of posts.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the latest installment of the Super Smash Bros. series. Developed by HAL Laboratories, Super Smash Bros. As of now, not every tidbit of information is known about Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, one of the head developers, Masahiro Sakurai, is updating the Super Smash Bros. Dojo, the official Super Smash Bros. website, with new details every Monday through Friday. However, the time is set as it is taken more of a blog style rather than a traditional website. So he updates in each language at around 5:00pm, JST (?). That would mean our updates come at 12:00 am (PST), 2:00 am (CST), and 3:00 am (EST). However, this does not mean he will immediately update the website. On certain occasions, he updates the website an hour or two later. That means something big might be uploaded.

When the update time comes around, generally one new piece of information will be added. Once in awhile two new pieces of information will be added. The following is a list of updates (Eng. USA)...There is a lot you can learn from the website!

This time around, there is something that we have to be much stricter upon. Setting a limit of discussion. Since there were not any true limiters, from the original topic (as set by CasMat), discussion turned from this to that. Under no circumstances again should this topic of discussion turn into that. We want to keep it to this and let it always be this. So, here are some ground rules.
  • Absolutely no discussion on characters you think should be in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This especially applies for 3rd Party Characters. 3rd Party characters are Sonic or Mega Man.
  • Stick to talking about things listed on the Super Smash Bros. Dojo or credible sources (Gaming Magazines, online web sites like IGN or GameSpot). Do not, I repeat, do not talk about rumors on forums.
  • Do not create your own character roster.
  • Do not post fake or photoshopped images of SSBB.
  • If you are excited about an update (or even the game), do not just say so. Explain why you like it. Be sure that if you speaking in very broad terms, go into a deeper explanation. Each post can create a new topic of discussion if you put your mind to it. It is okay to post small details someone might have forgotten or debatable questions. The same goes if you hate an update.
  • Do not flame someone’s opinion, especially a moderator’s opinion.
  • If you discover your post has been deleted, do not repost it.
Any posts that are deemed inappropriate/stupid by higher authority will be deleted. If your posts continue to be deleted, more severe actions can arise. This may be standard, but it's just a reminder. Remember, Smogon prides itself on having a very good amount of users who are able to act and post maturely. Except in Firebot.

IF YOU FEEL LIKE USING THE WORD EPIC OR ALONG THE LINES OF THAT IN A STUPID WAY OF 4CHAN OR NSIDER, I'LL MAKE SURE THAT YOU END UP GETTING YOUR POST DELETED... as of 9:43 PM, PST.

I wish Knuckle Joe was a playable character. He looks cool.

Funny chin.

Hehe.

Yeah, he would be better than King DeDeDe if he manages to get in Brawl... and heck, where are Metaknight and Snake profiles???

Offtopic: No Metroid Prime 3 Thread? It'll be on stores next week! Damn, I live in Brasil and I'll have to wait an extra week for my copy. >_>

hehe new thread...

Anyways, I'd much rather see brand SPANKIN new character updates than a little 4 sentence entry on Metaknight and Snake.

I wish every board I went to had those rules.

I'm really curious as to what moves Metaknight will have though. Sakurai stop being so modest with your series and update us with a Metaknight profile.

Also was Petey Piranha always around that size in the other games he appeared in?

@ Evolutia, Yes, Petey was always that huge. Typically had a protruding bellybutton with a strange weakness to water, despite being a plant that doesnt breathe fire.

Oh, and looking forward to a new Brawl thread. Hopefully we can make this one last untill Dec. 3rd, guys.

And no fighting with the Mullet!

Petey varies in size really.

Here is a picture from Sunshine with Mario fighting Petey for a decent scale of size:

As you can see he was pretty large in Sunshine, which was his first appearance, since then hes been in sports games and several platformers, but with his size reduced for the sports games like Mario Kart where he was about the size of Bowser.

EDIT: Pic hoster sucked

EDIT: I just realized Sub Space may be a reference to the Sub-Space in Super Mario Bros 2, who knows.

No, that place is referred to as Subcon, because it was in Mario's subconcious. This Subspace place is entirely different, and I doubt any characters except for Peach will be throwing vegetables at anything reptilian bar Bowser.

I'm really confused by why Snake and Metaknight don't have profiles yet.

Does Sakurai think that they're some sort of big secret?

Metaknight Theories/Oh's

I'm really curious as to what moves Metaknight will have though.

Kirby Super Star is probably our number one resource for moves that Metaknight could possibly have. Though Sword has always been a natural ability in Kirby games, Metaknight has plenty of his own sword moves. I could see them mixing both skills though. For example, there's the whirlwind he can create when he slashes down his sword in a concentrated method (Down+B Charge?). Metaknight can twirl in mid-air with his sword spinning too, but that'd be a Mid-air A I'd guess. Some basic Kirby Sword-Style techniques he could borrow such as "Chop & Beam" - Multi-Sword Attack. Hard to really say.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note, I found out that Footstool Jump is this case is actually a Kirby thing.

Oh, for those of you who don't know who Knuckle Joe truly is, click here. Kirby will be using the moves Knuckle Joe will be using as an Assist Trophy in SSBB: Vulcan Jab (Vulkan-Gerade!), Smash Punch (Smash-Schlag!), and Rising Break (Aufwärts-Kinnhaken!). Reminder: Those are the attack names in-game. True accuracy baby.

Man, playing games through a keyboard really does suck. I did make these videos, so I hope you're happy.

Notes: All movies require the XviD Codec (If you watched any subtitled anime on your computer, you're fine). The Metaknight video requires that you have a program that can extra files from the archive file extension .rar.

I'm afraid my monitor is too old and therefore I can't see dark pictures properly. So I have to ask about this picture:

Is there someone behind Zelda or is it just her cage?

after playing Nightmare in Dreamland, (see:Kirby's Adventure) i distinctly remember Metaknight having a Sword-slam reminiscent of Link's dair, but as for B moves, Metaknight had the ability to charge his sword and shoot a wave, most likely his neutral B move.

I find it odd that the Petey update had the Smash symbol rather than the Mario symbol. It may mean something, but I don't know.

lol, I guess this was pretty needed, I was really expecting it to happen sooner.

Well anyways, did anyone consider that maybe Sakurai was actually hinting at someone's attacks when he said "some may do repeated rapid jabs, others may simply do three slow swipes with a blade"? Ike maybe? Unimportant I know, but I just kind of felt like pointing it out.... Quote found here.

PS: The repeated use of bullets under bullets hurts my eyes....

Edit: @Lupo: I'm guessing it's because he isn't a playable character, and is just part of the story mode.

I like how the story will split right off the bat pending on who you choose to save. I wonder how many different story lines there are because the way they are pushing this single player mode i hope it has enough to keep you interested for more than 5 minutes. I hope there are different stories not just a momentary spilt in the story only for the story line to meet back up halfway.

@Casmat: Er... I didn't really think anything of that quote about the A attacks. We already knew from the previous games that not all characters have a rapid A attack (ie. mario, marth).

I have been waiting to bring up those points and yet you beat me to it. ):

Yet, now that you mention all of the possible great features, let's hope that they don't fuck up multiplayer. That is the first reason why I am going to buy this game.

What I was trying to say was that maybe he was hinting that there was a character that actually used "three slow sword swipes". But it's pretty unimportant because it could imply any number of things. I was just pointing it out.

Wasn't SSBB supposed to be shown at Leipzig Games Convention?

No. Not all games have to be shown at a gaming convention. SSBB made virtually no appearance at E3. The only stuff shown was the 15 second footage and the release date during E3. Mario Kart Wii and Battalion Wars 2 weren't at Leipzig either.
