SPOILERS! General Pokémon Anime Discussion

In my opinion, the anime is a great show.
I like the gen 1-4 anime all the way
gen 5 was bad except for the Dawn meetup and the charizard return
Alexa was pretty cool to
gen 6 has an awesome anime It was better than gen 5
I hope Ash and Serena date and Ash will win the Kalos League.

The 18th Pokemon movie is about Primal Groudon, Kyorge and Mega Rayquaza. Probably Hoopa too.

I can't wait for the new movie too. Also, by the way. Since the movie is taking place in Hoenn, May and Max may appear too and meet up with Ash and the gang.

The 18th movie won't be taking place in Hoenn, at least not completely if they do end up in Hoenn at some point. From what it looks like it'll be teleporting shenanigans via Hoopa and its rings. Also even if they do end up teleporting to Hoenn I doubt we'll see May or Max. At most I can imagine a scene of Ash & co. being teleported to a recognizable place in Hoenn, they see Hoopa and chase it, and they the teleport somewhere else. A quick scene just to show off Hoopa's power.

Meh, most of the Johto saga was pretty bad, and where most people originally lost interest in the anime. It has a good league and a few individual funny episodes, but its also absolutely dire to watch through as a whole. Ash has his worst Pokemon team of the series, Misty loses her personality and becomes a throwaway background character, and everything else is handled poorly.

The reason the original trio was split up was a direct result of how poorly received Johto was when it was originally airing. May also became more popular than Misty as Hoenn progressed, along with the Contest episodes becoming the most well received addition to the show. By the time we got halfway into Hoenn the writers decided not to bring Misty back to the cast, and once Battle Frontier began Misty got her final appearance of the series.

A lot of people tend to forget Misty's departure was an experiment at first, you can tell during the early Hoenn era the writers were waiting to see how May was received before they decided her fate. Once the writers realized people moved on from Misty to May besides some of the more nostalgic shippers, the writers were able to drop her. I often wonder what might have happened if the opposite occurred? Would Dawn even exist on the cast, or would they have gone back to the original trio again for the DP series? Its easy to think of how different the anime might have been had they not been able to axe Misty when they did.

Well, this is interesting:

Ash just caught a Goomy and according to the new opener it'll evolve all the way to Goodra fairly quickly!

I was watching the episode "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak" and there was one moment that I'm surprised was kept in: Brock was sad about the summer being over since he missed bikini season and we get a glimpse inside his head:

This stuns me mainly cause this is only two episodes after "Beauty and the Beach". I'm surprised 4Kids didn't remove this bit.

Wait, Ash will finally have a
fully evolved Pseudo-Legend
? Awesome. Makes up for DP.

If Ash can't win the Pokemon league with that Pokemon along with Greninja (Uberlol), Talonflame (Smogon Bird), Hawlucha, Pikachu, and whatever his 6th mon will be, then he should just call it quits for good...

Something tells em we wind with him benching most of these mons and going with a less intimidating team (and then face an opponent that will inevitably kick his can)

He only has 5 Pokemon ... Just wait Aegislash and he will have his own "Smogon OU/Uber" team
It'd actually be more of a fanbase-pandering team, since Hawlucha and Goodra aren't OU and every Gen 6 Pokemon he's caught is ridiculously popular.

Not that this is a bad thing. Pandering to the fans shows that you care about their opinions, but too much pandering... I can't remember why exactly it's bad, it just is.

Correction: "Smogon OU/Uber" team... and Pikachu. ^w^

EDIT: Karxrida: Was Infernape the example you were refering to? Before it became a spotlight thief, he was initially well-received due to Paul being a brat and the evolutionary line's popularity in general.

There's also Charizard's return in BW.

I wasn't think of any specific examples, but yeah a spotlight stealing squad like Infernape can be bad like you mentioned if they get too much screen time and overshadow everyone else. In this case, Ash's entire team is of Mons that are amongst (if not the most) popular of their Gen, and assuming none of them get too much attention it shouldn't be a problem.

Then again I don't watch this show and don't really care either way

It was a joke. I know tiers, but Greninja / Talonflame / Hawlucha / Goodra are one of the best Pokemons from Gen VI.

After the disaster what was Ash's BW team, it seems the XY Pokemon team is being handled far more similar to Sinnoh and Hoenn where Ash has a fully evolved starter and evolves most of his Pokemon.

Now if only Serena can become more of an actual trainer and not just a shipping love interest, I would be content with everything this series. I've been pretty disappointed with the way Serena is handled overall, its like the writers don't want her to be an actual trainer, just a shipping plot and to be an idol model in performances. She literally just feels like a blonde version of Dawn just without any of the battler tendencies Dawn had or the drive that made Dawn interesting.

I think what they're trying to show with Serena's character is that she doesn't know what she wants to do and thus trying to figure it out. This is sort of what they did with May who didn't want to become a trainer but only did so to start traveling, thus why she joined Ash on his travels. It worked in story as her and Ash's goals aligned and soon May discovered Pokemon Contests and decided to become a Coordinator which further justified her traveling with Ash & co.. However Serena didn't start traveling with Ash because she's hoping to find what she wants to do, she started traveling with Ash because he just so happens to be the same boy she met at a Pokemon Summer Camp when they were little kids and developed a crush on. That's not a very engaging story as she's now traveling with Ash for a reason that's not related to the games. Now it seems like she wants to become a PokeVision Star (which I want to remind you is essentially Pokemon Youtube) but still that's loosely connected to the games and she's not really working at it. In addition her mother sometimes comes into the picture of things and wants her to become a Rhyhorn Racer, which she does seem to have a knack for despite denying she does. So she doesn't want to do something which she's actually good at, she wants to do something which she doesn't really show much practicing for, and she's following Ash not for character development reasons but because she has a crush on him that's unrequited.

Well it's not like the games don't indulge in a bit of fanservice:

ANYWAY, movie news! The (Japanese) title for the next movie is "The Archdjinni of Rings: Hoopa" and, as you can read from the title, Hoopa has been revealed as well:

So Hoopa is suppose to be based on a djinn of sorts. Also it's artwork makes it look a bit better then its in-game model, in my opinion.

What I meant is the fact that 4Kids left it in, especially since it was only two episodes after the infamous "Beauty and the Beach" which had this:

Hell, 4Kids would often remove cleavage from characters who were mostly covered. Yet they left that in. That's what surprised me.

So more Movie news, specifically the plot synopsis:

On his way to becoming a Pokemon Master, Ash and his companions continue on with their journey. On their way, they arrived at a Pokemon Center in the desert.

While having donuts during their rest, a mysterious ring suddenly appeared behind them. A hand stretched out from within the ring and grabbed the donuts. "Wait!" Ash shouted. Clinging to the hand with Pikachu by his side, they were pulled into the ring, which immediately disappeared into thin air. Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie were left behind and taken aback by what happened to the two.

"Appear~!" Ash and Pikachu were sent flying out of the ring. Noticing the sudden change of scenery, Ash became confused and confronted the culprit. "Ishishishi! Are you surprised?" "What are you?" "Hoopa!" Large towers appeared in the distance. Ash and Pikachu had travelled through the ring and teleported to their destination - Désert City.

Meeting with the mysterious Pokémon Hoopa for the first time, what is the true identity of this Pokemon? What is the mysterious power behind its rings? Ash, Pikachu, and Hoopa's adventure begins to unfold!

So to summarize the summary:
1. Seems like Ash, Pikachu, and Hoopa will be the main characters, Ash's friends having been left behind. They could possibly be pulled through later on, of course.
2. Hoopa can speak, though that shouldn't be a surprise.
3. The game takes place in "Desert City". Creative name, though I suppose it goes along with its lore.
4. Though not mentioned in the summary, its confirmed that Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and "Black" (Shiny) Mega Rayquaza are in the movie. It's not known what part they play.
5. The Pikachu Short (which we probably won't be getting) is "Pikachu and the Pokemon Band".

Was kind of hoping for a cross region "road trip" with Hoopa teleporting Ash & co. all over the Pokemon World, but oh well.

Wait, donuts?
onigiri.jpg

I couldn't resist.

On a more serious note, the new movie sounds interesting...mainly cause Shiny Mega Rayquaza. And I am honestly curious how Hoopa (especially Hoopa Unbound) will be portrayed.
