General Introduce yourself!

Hi, just realized I haven't posted to this thread yet, I'm pretty new to smogon as whole despite participating in one of the tutoring rounds.
I started watching the Pokemon anime whenever I was around 2 years and played the games at 6, so that's how I got introduced into the series; however almost a year ago I stumbled upon the competitive scene and haven't stopped since.
One of my favorite pass times when I'm not playing the game itself is theorizing about what potential strategies I could employ as well as reading the various analysis found on this website, so hopefully I'll get into that eventually

Good that you introduced yourself! It appears you already know how to navigate the forums, so I'll just advise you to get involved in the ones you like. I don't really think too hard about strategies; I mostly go with the flow. :/ It works, though! Anyway, if you need help, you can ask here for now, but you can also check out our Help form. Hi people, so apparently I have had this account a while, first time using the forums so was a bit shocked when my username was in use. I have been playing pokemon since gen 1, but not competitively. Hoping to get into it a bit more. A few quick questions... What is the main view on powersaves here and where do I go to request a certain pokemon? Thanks in advance to any nice helpful people :)
 
Hi there, I am new to Smogon and i joined just yesterday. I have been playing since ruby and sapphire, playing on my friends and relatives gba's. I joined because I heard about this site from a friend, and at the time, I wanted to get into competitive battling. I will say I lack experience competitively battling, although I have researched it. But all in all, I would be more than happy if i could make friends and get a bit of help from more experienced players.

Yeah, same here. It took me about six months to actually start posting. :/ As for powersaves....any kind of device or the like which allows you to do something you wouldn't normally be able to do in game is a bit... :/ ...here. Don't try to trade any cheat Pokemon or hacked in the Wi-Fi subforum as you will get punished. The Wi-Fi subforum is also the place to request a Pokemon you want. Have fun!

Hey guys! Im fairly new to smogon, as I have been using the Battle Dex for a year or so, but I haven't made an account till recently. I tend to lean towards a mixed team, NU, UU, and so on. I don't use legends as they are overpowered, and I use them on play throughs only. I am totally willing to battle ot trade on the weekends, as a high school student has an abundance of homework. Ill post a friend code later if anyone wishes to battle or trade. Thanks!

Have you visited the "Never/UnderUsed" rooms? About the legendaries thing, I in fact do the opposite; I use them in Showdown but not in playthroughs. You can visit the Wi-Fi subforum to find other users to battle and trade with. Have fun!

Good day all. My name is Simeon (Sim for short). I'm 26, live in Rhode Island, and I am into gaming, Magic the gathering, and anime. I also enjoy shooting pool and karaoke(don't laugh!). I recently got my associates in computer sciences (computer programming) which means... I know nothing! Well I know a little lol but I know how to learn at least. That's what the basics are for.
I have played pokemon Blue, Red, Silver, White, and I am playing Omega Ruby. I have never been a competitive player. I am not sure if I want to be or not yet but I want to learn about the competitive side of pokemon at least since I have never explored it (I only recently found out about EV training O_o). I would really have no idea where to begin either. I have just been catching a bunch of pokemon, using blissy secret hideouts, and using wonder trade a LOT!
So there we are. A little bit about me, my experience with pokemon and what I have been doing in pokemon lately. Any questions or what have you are welcome!
 
Hey together, I've been lurking smogon and it's forums for some months now and decided to finally make me an actual account here. Started with Pokemon in 1st Gen, but I don't really have any competitive experience, which is what brought me here. I already read some stuff concerning the competitive battling and watched a bunch of YouTube videos but didn't actually battled much myself by now. So any advice on teambuilding and battling would be really welcome + I'd love to do Wi-fi battles, although Showdown is fine too from time to time. So yeah ... that's it I guess.

Hey, I'm not that big of a fan of pool, but karaoke sounds fun (even though I've never tried it anywhere outside my shower)! Also, congratulations on getting your associate's. As for learning about competitive, you came to the right place! If you want someone to teach you the basics and more, PM a mentor. Otherwise, have fun!

It's always great to meet a veteran! You could PM a mentor using the link above and/or sign up for our Tutoring program. Both are great as they teach you the basics, but personally I recommend a mentor, as 1 on 1 seems more rewarding to me. If you have any questions, please ask; otherwise, have a great time!

Well you see, a normal Pokemon doesn't do anything special. But when people here it's a cloned Pokemon, it causes the recipient to butthurt. :/

There isn't really a difference. In the anime movie, though, Mewtwo causes his cloned Pokemon to have weird patterns. This is not present in game.

Okay. So its polite to mention that its cloned but theres no way to know if its not mentioned?
Also could you tell me how to tell if a Pokemon is hacked? I have used wonder trade a lot and don't know which Pokemon I real or illegitamite. O_o I've got a few shinies that I hope are real lol. Ampharos, milotic, lucario, charizard

If a pokemon is hacked, it won't have a pentagon symbol when you look at its summary. Also, certain pokemon that cannot be shiny make it clear if they're hacked; like if you get a shiny Keldeo somehow.

The pentagon may also not be present if the Pokemon was traded over from a previous game.

Basically, if a Pokemon is hacked, you won't be able to transfer it through PokeBank.
 
Hello guys, I´m Durandal, a guy from the caribbean who´s 23 years old.

I started playing Pokemon competitive in gen 5, back when B2&W2 came out and since then I have been playing both here and on Battle Spot/friends on gen 6. I play mostly OU/UU and sometimes RU, but recently I find myself really interested on VGC because I like the actual VGC format, there are so many mons that I like available at the moment.

Feel free to give me a shout if you wanna play some battles :)
 
Hi guys, I'm SlashItToBits. I started playing competitive Pokemon last year and I enjoy battling with my friends. I mostly battle Ubers, OU, and UU, with a bit of RU and a tad of NU. If you want to battle give me a shout!
 
Fourth Horseman here. I battled back in Gen 1, recently discovered showdown and am now getting back into it. My showdown name is 4th Horseman, I mainly battle in OU, recently been battling in AG with my OU team.
