The fact that Kyurem doesn't get Icicle Crash. Not even just competitively, one of the major cutscenes in B2W2 depicts it forming Icicles to impale the player with, which could just as easily be dropped on something.
Now, the reason this irritates me now? Because Pikachu, fucking Pikachu, got Icicle Crash before Kyurem did. The latter is a legendary Ice beast of unbelievable mystical power, the latter is a rat that has no in universe logic for how it could use the move and only has the measly real world justification of being the mascot for the franchise and for a sidequest, its own role for that being a gimmick/crutch character at that.
Well normal Kyurem is too crippled to use Icicle Crash, in the cutscene it was using Glaciate. However Black Kyurem should have definitely gotten it along with Ice Punch, Ice Fang, and maybe Ice Shard and Avalanche. Seriously, looking at Black Kyurem's movepool (both leveling up and TM) it's severely lacking Physical moves to use.
P.S. Yeah, silly learnsets annoy me a lot. Rattata with Thunderbolt, really? Nasty Plot to Togepi but not Gengar? Makes so much sense!
Doesn't it?
1. Mega Salamence
Did this thing really need to get one of the 2 abilities I was predicting (Aerialate or Tough Claws) and a boost to its speed?
2. Mega Rayquaza and Primal Mons
Sure, making broken Pokemon more broken does not affect the official Tournament rules anyways but really? Mega Evolutions without taking a Mega Slot (thats what Primals basicly are) or a Mega that can hold an item and is already without a threat?
Not to mention they got some insane high power moves that have little to no draw backs.
3. Battle Maison instead of Battle Frontier in ORAS
4. No Defog Tutor
5. Soft Resetting is a pain because of in-Game cut scenes and whatever you have to do to fight Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus, Dialga, Palkia etc.
6. Synchro not 100 % Nature besides Lati@s (I believe)
Keep resetting for Natures wouldn't be a pain with the IVs where right.
7. Looking for TMs because stupid Islands have exclusive ones
I finally got Flash Cannon today.
8. No Mew Island like in Emerald in ORAS
1. Well it is a Mega Pokemon. Actually Mega Salamence is a it odd as its it Defense stat that got the highest increase. It went from 80 to 130, that's +50. Its offense stats only got +10, which makes them still perfectly high and usable,
but still if you think its OP right now honestly I think they sort of nerfed it by putting so much into Defense. EDIT: What I meant to say that Salamence always seemed like an offensive Pokemon, yes its Ability makes some moves hit very hard but I would think it would be able to hit very hard all around. Also why the big increase to just Defense when Special Defense only got a small increase?
2. I'm okay with the Primals, its just Mega Rayquaza which confuses me. The Primals at least still have to hold their orbs to Primal Revert, but Mega Rayquaza can just Mega Evolve with a prayer and still hold another item. Now there could be an answer to this, if they made the other trio masters (Lugia, Ho-Oh, Regigigas, Arceus, Cabolion, Landorus, Kyurem, Zygarde) have an equally broken Mega Evolution it would make some more sense, like in order to battle its trio it needs to have a non-limiting power.
Either that or next gen/game it's getting a hold item and this is just a market gimmick (Hey kids! Want a Mega Legendary that's not restricted to holding a Mega Stone so it can hold a Life Orb and just destroy everything?! Than buy Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire!*
*Mega Rayquaza may need to hold a Mega Stone next game)
3. At the very least they could have maybe added extra battles you could have done with trainers who would eventually become the Frontier Brains (outside or inside the Mansion, or maybe even had them as partners). They could just use normal Trainer classes like Worker for Noland, Battle Girl for Greta, Dragon Tamer for Tucker, Delinquent for Lucy, Expert for Spenser, Ruin Maniac for Brendan, and Hex Maniac for Anabel.
4. Hopefully for XY2? Though honestly they could probably patch it so that one of the Battle Resort tutors could teach it. We'd probably need to wait until the Gen IV remakes before Defog becomes available en mass.
5 & 6. No, sort resetting it annoying for Latio@s and Rayquaza (and the version mascots and Deoxys if you wanted to catch them first time). PLEASE Game Freak, give us a break before catching a Pokemon so we can save and after catching it so we can check its stats. If you really want to make a cinematic for us to watch then how about making the Legendary have a good nature + 31 IVs in each stat from the get go. One or the other.
Also would be nice for encounters and gift Pokemon for Synchro to be 100%.
7. Congrats, about a month ago I myself finally finished my collection by getting Poison Jab. Took me MONTHS to get to that one island I needed to go to. And to rub salt in my wounds, I've since visited that island two or three more times since then. Also a few weeks ago I think I finally seen all the Mirage Spots, I thought I saw them all when I got to the one with Poison Jab but then I got to one I never saw before. Who knows if I have seen them all.
But anyway, DON'T HIDE THINGS LIKE TM IN RANDOMLY APPEARING LOCATIONS! You can hide goodies like Shards, Rare Candies, Battle Point items, Selling Fodder, etc.. but not something which players might want to actually use. If you want them hidden then hide them within a puzzle somewhere or if you want to keep them out of reach until post game make them expensive to buy or sold in the Battle Resort. Ugh!
8. Well we don't know that yet. Maybe when XY2 is about to be release they'll have the Mew Event as a final send off to ORAS.
The fact Shaymin-S reverts back at night or when put in the box.
I mean... it's a cute little flavour thing but then when you want to actually use it it becomes incredibly inconvenient, and unless you want to mess around with your 3DS' clock becomes impossible to do if you're up past 8PM, especially if like me you're in a situation where most of your Pokémon-playing friends are 5 hours behind you and hence you can only battle later. It's just a little ridiculous and a bit outdated by now.
And actually what on earth is the point of it reverting when it's put in the box? I mean... what?
I guess they wanted to show that it was frail as a flower (guessing it may have to do with the flower that the Gracidea is based on?)... but that gimmick wears itself out fast. They probably should make it permanent, or at the very least its good for 24 hours until you need your Shaymin to sniff another Gracidea.
8. I think Gamefreak might just be phasing in-game captures for Event Pokemon out at this point. We went from all the events bar Manaphy being "catchable" in Gen 4, to only Victini in Gen 5 (the rest were distribution only), and at this point, I think the only possible event encounter they could do is Volcanion, since there's no real place to put Hoopa and Diancie could've been in that shiny spot near the Alakazite by wasn't. Heck, Deoxys becoming a "regular" capture inidcates they may be moving some mons away from event exclusivity altogether (which I personally wouldn't mind).
Well its theorized that the Chamber of Emptiness was for Hoopa. It seems GF puts in these places that they want to be related to an Event Legendary, but when push comes to shove they decide to scrap the idea, put an item in the now abandoned location to justify it being there, and forget about it. I imagine Volcanion's spot would have been in one of the locked rooms of the Power Plant.
Kurona had a good idea of just making the Mythical Pokemon normal captures next gen. Like in their gen the mythical Pokemon are like exclusives but come next game there's new Mythical Pokemon so might as well give everyone the previous ones. Obviously they'd make getting them special, like maybe have them obtainable via version exclusive, but overall they should become normally catchable in some form without needing an event.
Here's something: why does Kadabra specifically get to evolve if traded while holding an Everstone?
I assume GameFreak wants to keep that as a feature (they could've fixed it by now), and it actually sounds like a pretty sweet two-for-one special--here, have a Pokemon and something to help out with breeding or to make getting Spore Breloom easier. (Even if trade-based evolutions are typically handled by touch-trade.) So why not just make that a feature for everything?
It would stop trolls from trading Pokemon that evolve through trading but holding an Ever Stone (which they probably hacked a whole batch just to do).
And as an added bonus since only Nidoran (F) can breed it adds a layer of unintentional pedophile comparison. Good job GF!... seriously just make Nidorina and Nidoqueen breedable, the jokes gone on way too long and it stopped being funny after Gen II.
Another thing: Zapdos not getting Lightingrod. It fits so well, a legendary storm bird getting its power from thunderstorms, and it would be a good ability in general. But no, let the bird take neutral damage from Thunderbolts and give it frikkin' Pikachu-tier Static. And good chap Chandelure, did you want Shadow Tag? No, no, you'd be way overpowered with it. Better give it to poor Mega Gengar. It's not like it has absurd stats or anything.
Honestly I think the whole 2 Abilities + 1 Hidden Ability per Pokemon is kind of a relic mechanic by now. Originally when they introduced Abilities I think they wanted to make it seem like the Pokemon had something special about it that no other Pokemon had, but at this point they might as well give a Pokemon an Ability if it should logically have it. They can make it normal or hidden depending on the Ability, but I think if the Pokemon should logically have the Ability then give it the Ability, limits be damned.
Something else that kind of annoys me is the Camerupt and Sharpedo you get from those grunts in the aftergame. Aside from maybe the berry they hold, they... don't really have anything special to them. No particularly good IVs, no special move, not even their hidden ability... it sort of makes me question the point. I think they might have had good natures, I guess???
I think they just wanted to give you instant access to Archie and Maxie's signature Pokemon asap instead of forcing you to train your own. Silly, but hey free Pokemon. Would be nice if there was something special about them, but GF seems very skittish about giving a Pokemon something special unless they make it a giant announcement.
I forgot who, but someone brought up the point that the reason for the Gen VI pentagons was to pretty much "clean house" of all the extra baggage from the previous games. There was 5 gens worth of special Pokemon in one way or another and it seems like GF decided enough was enough. They made these Pokemon off limits and now are being careful not to repeat them by giving a Pokemon a special move or its Hidden Ability unless you worked for it. Which isn't bad per se, but it does make events less exciting and if anything feels like they're telling us how we should play instead of letting the mechanics of the game limit what we can do.
50 pages of us moaning about pokemon... this little thread feels so loved! :)
And to celebrate, here are some more nitpicks
- Say I forget what Hidden Power my Ditto has (maybe because I have at least two boxes of them....). So I go to the HP checker and get told that 'Ditto can't learn HP'
- Even worse is when you're trying to hunt for a shiny h/a Ditto with HP Ice....
- Lv 10 event pokemon. Bloody awkward when you're trying to check their IVs. Battle Institute does work, but it takes time, and some mons are not allowed to take part. Here's looking at you, stupid lv 10 Jirachi.
- So you end up having to turn on the WiFi, just because your stupid PowerSaves needs internet to work.
- You should be able to trade the shiny charm! There is no way I'm restarting my game to SR a new mon, purely because I'll need to trade 700+ mons for the best chance of getting a shiny Reshiram
- Europe getting the new Mystery Dungeon later than everyone else :/
They don't let you check Ditto's HP type? That's a bit Tauros Mulch, NPC why do you care if this Pokemon can learn Hidden Power or not? You're lucky I'm talking to you in the first place! Do your job or get me someone who can. If you want you can make a joke like "This Pokemon's Hidden Power Type is (type)... if it could learn Hidden Power, HA HA HA!" if you want, but at least do the job you're programmed to do.
You can't check the IVs of Level 10 Pokemon?
I kind of like the Shiny Charm being a key item reward, but I can see how someone who wants to restart the game would want to keep it. Maybe have a New Game Plus where they let you keep things like the Oval and Shiny Charm?
I forgot to mention that I am also annoyed that synchronize does not work on Event Pokemon and why does the IV checker have to be so late game that I can't reset centain Pokemon that I have to catch early game (Xerneas, Yveltal, Lati@s in ORAS).
IV Checker should honestly be located nearby the Day Care (and if there are two Day Care there should be two IV checkers, heck the second Day Care is probably a post game bonus so you might as well put the second IV Checker in the Day Care). Heck, I'd even argue make it a special feature of the PC, like when you meet the game's PC Developer/Admin they reveal they're working on/playing with a "prototype" IV Checker and for visiting/helping them they let you use it. That way you can check your Pokemon IVs right at the PC.
On another topic, Egg Groups annoy me. Why are there 3 different water egg groups? Tentacruel should be able to breed with Jellicent. Why is Noibat/Noivern only in the Flying egg group and not Dragon? Also, Blaziken should be able to breed with Hawlucha and give it Brave Bird as an egg move...
Because they categorize 3 different kind of water creatures. Water 2 are fish-like, Water 3 are invertebrates, and Water 1 is everything else. Dragon seems to include mainly reptilian Pokemon (with the odd exception which makes you wonder why the other excluded Dragon-types aren't allowed).
