(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Whaaaaaaat???! ×_×
Damnit, I thought it was Santalune Forest. I need to check these things better next time...
I guess that means I won't be able to choose Leafeon as my Grass-type in Z after all... :'(

Maybe you were thinking of ORAS? The Moss Rock is in Petalburg Woods, you just need Cut to access it.

Don't worry. Dexnav'll be removed by the next game forever so you'll never have to worry about it again.

You say that but ORAS kept XY's PSS, Pokemon-Amie, and Super Training. Considering the strong connection they made between Hoenn and Kalos you could very well get a PokeNav Plus in XY2/Z. Or they just make it an upgraded feature in the Pokedex or part of the Holo Caster (they can rename it Holo Dex, Holo Play, and Holo Buzz).

If previous games are any indication, you don't need Cut, just be in Petalburg Woods and level up Eevee. Let me check:
Several minutes later (my spare Eevees are all in Poké Bank)...
Yep, you don't need to be right on the Moss Rock. Just being in Petalburg Woods makes Eevee's level up evolution Leafeon.

Huh, I wonder why they hid it behind Cut Tree than.

Depends on how they do things. They could have you start in Santalune Forest for all you know.

I think I remembered Petalburg Woods' Moss Rock and immediately assumed that XY's Moss Rock was also in an early accessible forest, in this case Santalune Forest. I do hope they pull a 'BW2' on Z (regardless of Moss Rock accessibility), by letting you start at a different place and introducing new Player Characters. It's not even that farfetch'd, since the Ghost-girl was whispering "you're not the one". It would seem logical that the next game expands on this.

Don't know if this has been said yet (I didn't backtrack in this thread), but another annoyance:
The little amount of menswear available for the male player character in XY when compared to the female counterpart :/

I think I mentioned it before. Like I understand that since females have an additional clothing category (dresses) and clothing fashion is aimed toward females more than males they're going to have more options than the male. But girls have more than twice the amount of boy clothes.

Though honestly this gap wouldn't be so big if they let you choose the color of the clothes. Clothes are mainly two colors except for special ones, so why not let us buy the style of clothes and let us dye it the colors we want? The same with hair, we can change our eye colors but not our hair?

And speaking of special clothes, why not include clothing based off Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Champions, Villain teams, Rivals, other important NPCs, Trainer Classes, etc.? I guess you could also do clothing based on certain Pokemon.

I know that feeling. Also, sometimes the alternate colors aren't as good. For me, I like wearing the hoodie, but I want to wear the Yellow one (Hufflepuff for life), but the Poké Ball hood doesn't look as good as the Green one.

And they should have special clothings. Imagine being able to dress up like a previous villainous team and even theming your team around it.
Also, the certain Pokémon clothes have been done in Battle Revolution and should be done again:

I guess I understand, but that whole 'females are more into clothing and looks than males' is such an annoying stereotype. Especially these days, there are plenty of variations in menswear as well, and plenty of other hairstyles as well. Male characters can obtain a Pangoro inspired cap in Kiloude City, and Female characters can obtain the dress inspired by Slurpuff in Kiloude City instead. But more of these kind of clothes would be very cool indeed.

Proof that variation would have been possible for male characters:

Long hair in a ponytail (a la 90's rockstar)
Slick short side-styling (a la 20's maffia)
Chaotic/Messy hair (a la 80's New Wave style)
Men's bob with fringe (a la 60's Beatles)
Half-long hair with curls

Green Fedora
Cowboy Hat
Top Hat
Artist's Cap
Propeller Cap

Backpack
Carrier with pockets (pockets!)
Large Traveller's Bag
Military Bag

Sweater over Button-down combo
Trench Coat (Looker has one, so why can't I?)
Vest/Gilet
Leather Jacket

Oxfords
Saddle Shoes
Dr. Martens inspired Punk-boots

Baggy Jeans
Office Pantalon
Bad-ass Leather Motorcycle Jeans (80's style)
Dungarees

Just sayin'

Btw I really hope this does not count as wishlisting (just really annoyed these weren't there in XY).

I have something that is brand new and might be bending the rules on competitive discussion, but I have to:
the new VGC rules for 2016. It's GS Cup. Meaning anyone who wants to play VGC now has to deal with Primals and Mega Rayquayza.
Why, Nintendo, why?

Meanwhile the Mythicals are still banned. Look, I get that they're supposed to be very difficult to get (those that would be Pentagon-legal anyway), and nobody wants to deal with Darkrai Dark Voiding the hell out of everything or Jirachi and Skymin going to town with flinch hax, but...it's not like the majority of them are borked or even that strong (especially with the cover legends cut loose), and besides, they're not as difficult to get in practice as one might think.

To sum up:
Mega Rayquaza? Fine.
Phione? BANNED.
I know why, doesn't make it right.

Heck, the Mythical Pokemon all usually have 600 BST, same at the pseudo-Legendaries. I think only Arceus ever had a higher BST.
I mean, technically Mega Diancie and Hoopa Unbound but yeah. Their whole gimmick is either having 100 across the board or since Deoxys doing something different with a 600 BST. And then Phione has 80 in all stats for a total of 480.
...
Why does Phione exist?

Why does Phione exist?

Well, one Legendary needs to have the title "weakest Legendary" so they decided to beat us to the punch and just create one to specifically have the title. But they kind of knew that would be a bit of quip to players who went out of their way to get it so instead made it a breedable bonus from Manaphy.

My serious guess is maybe it has to do with something that what its based on, the sea angel/clione. I found this bit information which may have to do with it on their wikipedia page:

The animals are simultaneous hermaphrodites, and fertilization occurs internally. A gelatinous egg mass is released during spawning, and the eggs float freely until hatching. Their embryonic shells are lost within the first few days after hatching.

The gymnosomes, like other shell-less opisthobranchs, discard their shells at metamorphosis, with the retractor muscles being severed and the shell lost. The group does not truly, therefore, lack a shell. Few larval shells have been described (and consequently an understanding of their fossil record is as yet unknown).

But say, maybe it'll prove its worth if it gets a Mega Evolution.

Okay but if Nintendo are deciding to just be completely stupid and let all the legendaries in VGC aside from the event ones... what's their reasoning for not legalizing Deoxys? It's kind of dropped from event status by now since it's as catchable as any other legendary and everyone can get one. Is there a reason beyond accessibility for keeping all the event mon out???

My guess is because Nintendo has this mistaken impression that Rarity = Power, considering back in the day Mew was a big deal because of its movepool and Power Creep hadn't caught it yet.

That said, the entire point of the story is to say Rayquaza can beat Deoxys, ergo it's weaker than the Rayquaza you're letting into VGC.

I don't get exactly what they hope to accomplish here though. I accepted Mega Rayquaza in some degree because Rayquaza was already Tourney banned, so it was creating this awesome Mon that was basically bragging rights reward for finishing all the "story" content, so there was no danger in making this ridiculously over the top OP Mega form. Now that it's being let into VGC, they are bringing into (what should be) a balance based Game space an element that was explicitly designed without balance as a restraint.

It's not even like this is a first mistake: They acknowledged that Mega Kangaskhan was ridiculously dominant in VGC, and there's also the matter of all those other strats like Intimidate Spam that cannot be ignored. They know that if they add an option that is very low maintinence/risk and high-reward, every player is going to use it. And unlike Kangaskhan, even casual players have to realize Rayquaza is nuts considering even as legendaries go, the entire Delta Episode was about hyping its Mega up.

I also wonder if they realize they're now going to basically turn a lot of VGC teams into those Battle Spot ones where people throw 6 Uber Mons with little rhyme or reason.

At the very least, it is 2 ubers at most per team rather than being allowed to fill up all 6 slots.
But it again shows Game Freak's... incompetence when it comes to the idea of balance. No-one asked for this and no-one needed it.

On an unrelated topic, something that annoys me about myself. Some fan games allow you to see your mons' IVs without the need for a checker. And it's made me absolutely neurotic about something I used to not care about one bit for in-game runs.

So now I'm obsessing over my catches (though usually only the attack and Speed IVs), and I feel really guilty about really good catches that I end up boxing because I don't plan on using them, like a Shinx I caught that happened to be 29/28/31/31/17/30. (I freaking wish I could have that kind of luck in a main-series title.)

That sounds like a pretty solid reason why IVs aren't visible in-game, and why the IV checker is only found in the postgame. It really disrupts the flow of gameplay if you feel like you have to evaluate every catch you make, or being told midway through your adventure that your starter kinda stinks. Might as well leave all that until the Elite Four is beaten, your adventure is over and you're free to just wander around.

It's irrelevant to the main story anyway, as even the Champion's Pokemon don't have EV's while your Pokemon will have at least some... and the AI isn't exactly known for being brilliant.

That said... Game Freak should really stop making catching/obtaining certain legendary Pokemon mandatory to continue. But I'm sure that's been talked about before.

Well, the one REALLY nice thing about that is that they tend to give it a high catch rate allowing me to SR easier it by capturing it at full health in a Quick Ball on Turn 1. It helps now that we know there's 3 max IVs so all you need is a synchronizer and you can catch the legendary, put the synchronizer away in your box when it tells you to, check the stats, and then go on with your game if you get a good one.

The discrepancy is the fact that it's near impossible to get a perfect read on their IV's if you're going for something like Hidden Power, or they're at a level where 30-31 is hard to narrow down via EV boosts, not to mention huge gaps between being able to check them in case of a reset for a bad nature or wrong IV's.

- Reshiram and Zekrom send you right into a battle with N that auto-saves before you get full control of your character again
- Xerneas and Yveltal force the battle with Lysandre
- Rayquaza has the Zinnia battle

And while there are other options, some other legendaries just have annoying gaps if you don't want to get them in post game
- Groudon and Kyogre have the 5 minute cutscene
- Even if you wait for Sky Pillar to reset Deoxys, you still have Rayquaza to go through.
