Event Discussion

From Serebii:

"In a new Pokémon Center promotional video has revealed a new event for Japan. This event will run at Pokémon Centers and will give away a special Diancie. This Diancie is Shiny, which cannot be obtained up to this point. It's to be distributed from December 12th 2015 to December 31st 2015. Full details of the event are not yet known but will be posted as we get them."

Hooray for shiny event legends. No idea if or when they are going to do this in the west yet however.

The next Battle Competition has been announced. This is the Festive Feud competition. This competition is a Triple Battle competition and runs some rather unique rules. To tie in with the Christmas theme, you can only use Pokémon that are categorised in the Pokédex as being Red, Green or White. You cannot use Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Groudon, Rayquaza, Deoxys, Dialga, Shaymin, Reshiram, Meloetta, Yveltal or Zygarde in this competition. Registration runs from December 3rd to December 10th while battles run from December 11th to December 13th.
All participants will receive a special Delibird. This Delibird has the moves Present and Happy Hour and holds the Relic Gold item, which cannot currently be obtained in Generation VI games.
Posting mainly for that last sentence, which is easy to miss and these Battle Competitions don't usually give out otherwise-unobtainable things. But hey, if anyone happens to be a fastidious Gen VI item collector, this could be your only chance to get a random otherwise Gen V-exclusive item into Gen VI. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"A new event has been announced for Japan. As part of the celebration of the Pokémon With You campaign from December 20th 2015, a special Pikachu will be distributed in Fukushima. This Pikachu is Level 99 with a Souvenir Ribbon and comes with the moves Happy Hour, Play Nice, Hold Hands & Flash and holds a Rare Candy"

So we get a Pikachu who has all three non-battle event moves, in addition to the one non-event move no-one ever puts on Pikachu, and at level 99 holding a Rare Candy.
Pretty fuckin' bizarre. Does anyone know if the Level 99 + Rare Candy thing is a reference to anything...? At the very least this'll be cool if you missed out on the happy hour Inkay. Because god knows in ORAS you need as many methods of getting money as you can.

The Hoopa Event has just begun in the US! I'm just hoping the McDonalds near me (which is a 30 minute walk there and back) is having the Event since it looks to be a smaller McDonalds than I thought. However according to the website it has WiFi which I'm hoping it means it will.

If the wireless is named "attwifi", then you'll be able to download Hoopa.

I don't eat at McDonalds that much unless I'm on the road, but every one I've ever stopped at with my 3DS has granted me streetpass tags from the NZ hotspot. Hell, my hometown McDonalds has it, and it's a rundown building in a town of 700 people.

If you have a smartphone, you can always use it to check for nearby hotspots and determine if "attwifi" is active.

An Arceus event has been announced for Southeast Asia. It will likely be codes, and if they are, they'll work on US/JPN systems. No word on if shiny Arceus can be obtained this way.

Just picked Hoopa up with the SSID trick, no Mcdonalds needed. Just edit your network name and disable the password, easy.

*Edit*

If you want to download from home, you need to change your SSID to "McDonalds Free WiFi". Disable the password/key for an open network. Then reconfigure/reconnect your 3DS connection to it.

Requires access to your router's configurations obviously.

I didn't discover this. Just recently read it on a Reddit post made several days ago.

Meh, I just went down to my nearest McDonalds. It was a corner McDonalds but I'm guessing as long as they have WiFi you can get the event from them. It is just me or had prices gone up/had they reduced what you get. I was thinking of getting something but looking at the menu I couldn't fine anything I felt was worth the price. Oh well, doesn't matter.

Though Aerodactyl Legend, for those who can't get to a McDonalds maybe you can explain or link to a guide of what they need to do.

Huh, so this will be the first ever Shiny Jirachi ever released outside of Japan. And the Third Shiny Jirachi period. So hooray for us Americans that lack a Shiny Jirachi I suppose.

Does anyone have an idea on how to sponsor a Pokemon Event?
Like who is the person in charge of making these event Pokemon up?
welcome to smogon? Lurk much?
Nintendo/Game Freak is the only one who can sponsor Events, unless you have an action replay or something similar, it is not possible to create events/event 'mons.
I honestly have no clue who decides what and when events occur.

^I think he means to ask how McDonalds or Gamestop or Toys'R'Us and all such places get their events. How do they contact Game Freak? Who decides what Pokémon to hand out, and (if any) what special moves they get?

Say, if Smogon offers to pool its money and ask for a Seed Flare Celebi...

That's a really weird way to spell Focus Blast Pidgeot...

It's really just promotions in the end. It's pretty obvious how gaming retailers have contact with GF and Mcdonalds does the happy meal toys so eh

Yeah that is what I meant, I mean we can always start a petition so that they can make event Pokemon with actually useful moves that they don't normally learn.
Like, the World's Sharpedo could have gotten Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, and Ice Fang... at least to make it more special... That is the problem with me and event Pokemon now a'days...

Maxsoft has dropped another "hint", this time it is a full-blown Arceus silhouette. They have also confirmed that it will be a serial code distribution for Southeast Asia.

So it seems there is going to be a few events in Japan surrounding the newer megas in Japan.

I was more interested in the Gift Delibird from the Xmas Battle Competition. They have detailed it as coming with the Relic Gold item. I didn't even realize there was a Maniac for artifacts in gen 6? :| I'm a bit confused why they are giving an item which gives you money in the games where money is really 0 object at all...

Yeah the Relic Gold was an odd inclusion. Like does it have to do with something Christmas I don't know about (besides giving money as a gift)? It seems like they're trying to be more creative with Event Pokemon... though honestly it just makes the Events seem odd. Like instead of just giving them a special move they can't normally learn and possibly be useful they're being given strange items and special Event exclusive Moves that are honestly useless (one which is purposely made to be completely useless).

Serebii's Event Database has the Mega Campaign Pokémon in their list of 2016 events, if anyone wants to see them. They have an assortment of moves on them, with the only event-exclusive one being Thunder Wave on Sableye. None of the Pokémon seem to have Hidden Abilities on them, so (thankfully) we don't have another legit Prankster T-Wave SwagPlay user with STAB Foul Play.

A repeat of past events will happen at Hiroshima's Pokemon Center in 2016. These events are shiny Charizard, shiny Rayquaza, shiny Gengar knowing Sludge Wave, an egg containing Carvanha/Numel/Ralts/Swablu/Bagon, Poke Ball Vivillon, and shiny Pikachu. Each event will run per month, from January to June, and can only be received on ORAS.
