Event Discussion

... MCDONALDS? Why McDonalds? What was wrong with GameStop or other game stores? Like if you MUST insist forcing us to go somewhere how about a place that makes sense like a game store? Well preferably I'd rather they just give it over Mystery Gift as Aerodactyl Legend said (seriously you can give GameStop, Toys R Us, McDonalds, whoever special promotions but the Mythical Pokemon of that generation should be available to everyone no matter where they are).

Now it's still not as bad for me as I still have one that's walking distance but it's like 30 minutes away even though I need to go out of my way to get there (and hopefully they're having the promotion). But still that's a hour of my time and I'm sure there are people who don't have a McDonalds close to them.

Hopefully they'll reveal this is just one way to getting it and they'll reveal that other stores are getting it. Like they heard the problem about distribution so they're trying to expand to other chains. I don't see why say McDonalds and GameStop/Toys R Us can't both have the distribution since they're not competing franchises so one isn't really taking business away from the other.

McDonalds? Screw that! If the events wireless signal is strong enough, I'm going to download it from the local Italian restaurant next door or the Burger King across the street. As much as I dislike overused memes and hashtags, I still feel like my plan calls for #RebellingLikeABoss and #SuckItMcOverlyProcessedFattyFoods

It could be a code meaning you may have to go up to the counter and ask for it (I don't think they'll charge you or force you to get a meal to get it, that would be INCREDIBLY BS, but you'll probably have to go into the McDonalds if that's the case).

UPDATE: Oh, it looks like they removed the McDonalds' tidbit. Maybe rethinking their strategy? Like I imagine they still have to go with the McDonalds deal if that wasn't a mistake, but they may now do another way to distribute Hoopa.

I'll throw them a bone here. How about having Mythical Pokemon you need to go somewhere to get be a sort of early access thing but when that event is over also have the Mythical Pokemon distributed via Wifi Mystery Gift. That way you can still have your promotion but also have those who can't get to where the promotion was happening able to wait a bit later to get it.

Hoopa being distriputed at McDonald's because... rings? Like onion rings? This really makes no sense. It's going to be so strange walking into McDonald's asking for a Hoopa. Everyone is going to stare, it's going to be.... ugh. Why not GameStop again so we can be in a place where it's normal to walk in for events.

Generally, when you have to go to a certain location to get an event, it means it won't be available outside the U.S. of A. This is really disappointing; I hope GF will have enough common sense to do a Wifi distribution as well.

Okay, so they clarified it's not a serial code but rather a "Nintendo Zone" event meaning you'll need to take your 3DS and copy/copies of X, Y, OR, and/or AS to a McDonalds and use local WiFi to get it. So CTNC looks like you can follow through with your plan. ;)

Could of sworn Nintendo Zone was canceled... when I try it it doesn't work. Maybe i'm thinking of Nintendo Video or something.

Yay! I have a McDonalds within a five-minute bus ride!...

...in my local mall's food court. Pretty sure that wouldn't be a participating location, but I'll be very happy to be wrong.

Probably not, they probably mean the regular sized McDonalds that you see off the side of the road. Like I did have a McDonalds walking distance from me but it was an "in-and-out" McDonalds so they probably wouldn't had this event either.

You know bringing that point up kind of makes this event kind of more stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong but I personally don't recall many McDonalds which are near residential areas. Like you may find one in a close by shopping district but most McDonalds are made near highways following the idea that they're trying to attract people (with kids mostly) driving to and from places to stop in. Most people will probably have to go out of their way to get to a participating McDonalds (I can only imagine the poor parents who have their kids trying to convince them to go to McDonalds even though they have to reason to go anywhere). While many game stores are located in shopping districts you'll also often find game stores nearby residential areas.

So yeah, this is very odd. Either GameStop did something to anger PUSA or McDonalds must have paid PUSA to have hold the event.

McDonald's?! MCDONALD'S?!!!! YOU MEAN THE FAST FOOD CHAIN THAT I SWORE I'D NEVER, EVER STEP FOOT IN, BECAUSE THEIR FOOD IS UNHEALTHY (but to be fair, very tasty) AS SHIT?!!!! LIKE, THE OWNER OF THE BIGGEST FARMS WITH THE BIGGEST ANIMAL'S AND WORKER'S RIGHT'S VIOLATIONS IN THE COUNTRY?!!!

NO, NO, NOOOOO!!!!

I loved McDonald's as a kid, I'll admit that. But now that I know what I know, I'm avoiding it like the plague, and I don't think I'll ever feed it to my kids when I become a parent either, so long as it remains as unhealthy as it is!

Yeah, I think I'm going to just be satisfied with the two Hoopas I received on, and take this as Nintendo of America's way of saying "we don't give a shit if you get your Hoopa through official channels or not"! Because I certainly don't give a Rattata's ass if either of my two Hoopas are hacked or not, so long as they don't ruin my game, and I can get the Prison Bottle! Now, I need to make sure I can still get the Prison Bottle with a cloned Hoopa tonight.

And whose ass did McDonald's corp kiss to get this exclusive contract anyways?!!

Well this explains the Hoopa Event (sorta). McDonalds' next toyline is Pokemon ORAS (which is actually for promoting the movie).

... you know if that's the case why not let McDonalds have a promotion where it's giving away the Legendaries that are in the movie. In Japan they had a special giveaway for Kyurem, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Lugia, Latios, and Latias. Why not give McDonalds those Legendaries events and make Hoopa a bit more widely available?

Probably doesn't belong here... but I want that toy Primal Kyogre now.

How do they do a local wireless distribution? Is there some kind of modem or anything. Personally I like McDonad's better since it is closer to my home.

Nintendo does have Nintendo Zone hotspots at McDonald's. Even though the Nintendo Zone app is discontinued, the 3DS can still connect to McDonald's Wi-fi hotspot without it, so Mystery Gift via local wireless should still get you a Hoopa if I'm not mistaken.

In all honesty, the concept of receiving a Pokémon at McDonald's seems normal to me. I mean, the first time I'd ever experienced anything Pokémon-related came from fellow chain restaurant Burger King, not a videogame-related store like GameStop. I do, though, feel sorry for those who have trouble accessing a McDonald's, so I too would've preferred the distribution to be a a general Wi-Fi event.

Hmm, I wonder what I did with my own poster and other neat stuff...

If you're worried about your public presence at a McDonald's, you could always get there at a really early morning hour, when more people are likely use the drive-thru than step inside for breakfast. It's something I might do myself when the event is running (plus I'll get a Sausage McMuffin and a Hash Brown while I'm at there, too).

Then how did they do the Gen IV local wireless events?

I remember downloading my shiny Entei before Gamestop even opened. I was there at around 7 in the morning.

*Ringringring! Ringringring! Event Alert! Event Altert!*

Huh? What Event just started? Hoopa isn't due until November... *checks* ... well, THAT'S certainly random!

Sludge Bomb (& Sucker Punch) Zoroark (North America):

zoroarkevent.jpg

For those of us in North America a new Event suddenly became active! Yeah, right out of nowhere, it's like we're living in Japan suddenly. Anyway this Event is for a Zoroark that knows the move Dark Pulse, Flamethrower (TM), Sucker Punch (Egg move), & Sludge Bomb (exclusive)! It's only available for Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. If you live in NA you can get yours by starting up your game and going to Mystery Gift > Receive Gift > Receive Via Internet.

Some are speculating this is a promotion for the new TCG set BREAKthrough.

Hmm, does any have an idea of a Nature for this guy? Naive (+Spd, -SpD) seems like the best option.

Skudge Bomb? Well well, what a neat little toy you got there...Thats going to hurt some fairies for sure, I'll tell you that. Will it be enough for Zoroark to rise in usage though...?

People in UU are already theorizing it might be a nice improvement... still, let's keep the competitive discussion aside. It's just nice to see exclusive moves that aren't hold hands or celebrate come out... random as hell as they are.

One peculiar thing to note is that this Zoroark comes in an Ultra Ball. Why not a Cherish Ball like all the others? And why an Ultra Ball of all things? Yes, I'm probably getting overworked over nothing, but it's still interesting.

gdi game freak you finally give us a Pokemon that would look good in a Cherish Ball and then put it in an Ultra Ball

Since it's supposed to tie in with the Breakthrough TCG, the Ultra Ball was likely chosen because of the color match: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Zoroark_BREAK_(BREAKthrough_92)

Zoroark Event Update:
Details for the Sludge Bomb (& Sucker Punch) Zoroark has been revealed for other locations. The Event is coming to Europe with the UK getting it via serial code from GAME stores which is redeemable on a copy of X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire. So I guess for the added inconvenience of needing to go to a store they made it redeemable in X and Y too?

Also the end date for North America is November 20th so starting tomorrow you only have 16 days left. While plenty of time, why wait?
