As if we needed more confirmation this is gen 7, from the press release http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-sun-and-pokemon-moon/

Using Pokémon Bank, you'll be able to transfer Pokémon you've caught in the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow into your copy of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. Pokémon from Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, andPokémon Y can also be brought into Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in the same way.

Also a bit offtopic, but amazing thing I just tried and found: amazingly enough, if you download the Pokemon Moon and Sun logo on the Pokemon.com Front page (NOT THE SUN AND MOON PAGE), they have the file name of "niji-11-en.jpg". This pretty much confirms the leaker since it uses the codename "Niji", meaning we're getting the new Nintendo console this year too, and it launches with Zelda!

Sorry but this is pretty shoddy evidence. I don't really see how this specifically means "you can transfer from XYORAS to SM which is a new gen" rather than transferring between games. I'm not saying it's impossible but just jumping at any possibility no matter how vague seems kind of... not helpful at all.

Is anyone actually going to be disappointed if this is Gen VII?

As of October of this year, Pokemon X and Y will have been released 3 years ago, and do keep in mind that ~3 years is how long generations typically last (Gen 1 1996, Gen 2 1999, etc.) Going by Japanese release dates, Generations III and IV are the only exceptions with roughly 4 years each, but point being, I feel like we should be on the new-gen lookout after about three years from the start of the current gen.
Yes. Kalos is unfinished, we have two event mons and the Zygarde formes that have never seem the light of a game, and there has never been a region that was not visited twice in its generation of introduction. So yes, I do believe they have no business leaving us with XY alone.

I'm just gonna say how zygarde's (the gen VI legendary) new forms being revealed for a gen VII game would be ridiculous and that pretty much says "we where going to do a third gen VI version but decided to do gen VII instead"
and with that I'm officially dropping the topic

anyway detective pikachu time since we have less that a year for a new gen, looks like we can expect one of two things:

1- few pokemon will be leaked since there's no time

2- leaks with loads of pokemon

Honestly I really wouldn't be sad that we don't get to visit Kalos again. Something completely new - a new region seems to be strongly implied if not outright confirmed - would be wonderful.

Generation V broke the trend of having old-gen remakes in any Gen III or later gen, so I fail to see the "never been a region that was not visited twice in its generation of introduction" as a valid argument. Game Freak is not afraid of breaking precedent. Also, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't even be the first time we've had questions left unanswered, not by a long shot. Maybe you can have whatever questions you had answered in 2023 when we get our X and Y remakes.

Ohmygawd. I just saw the direct. I am freaking out in excitement.

Because the direct says it brings all regions together, I'm going to guess this might be the fabled all regions game. Or, at least we can go to Kalos or Kanto. I'm guessing this because in some of the concept art shown a few pages back we have a Blastoise in a truck, and numerous other Pokemon from Gen 1.

I think the "bring all regions together" was just a nod at Pokemon Bank being compatible with the gen 1 rereleases. I highly doubt GF would give us an all regions game (and tbh I wouldn't want that terror).

The best bit of information to go off of is the phrase "new world" in the official tagline. If they said something like "revisit this or that region" then there wouldn't be much of an argument to be had.

That was never stated.

It didn't say all regions come together; it said "It all comes together", which is... pretty vague, it could mean anything especially in an anniversary title. It's kind of one of those stock phrases for a latest thing in a series.

I've been there, and that's not it.

It's just a comparison. The photographer took the picture really low to the ground in that first image used earlier, but the fountain is unmistakably the one in front of Buckingham.

But why didn't they show us any new Pokemon at all?
At least the box art legendaries?

Probably because they plan to release that information later, like it says on the Sun/Moon page.

Much more information is on the way about Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Keep checking Pokemon.com for the latest details!

Who knows at what rate this info will come or what it will be, but I'd like to think they'll at least show us the starters pretty soon (I hope).

We have maybe nine months before the release, they probably just want to pace themselves by having more press releases to stay in the news or something.

That being said, the XY starters and box legends were revealed nine months before release...

An excellent question

and the only answer I can come up with is that since there's so little time before the games' launch they already have made deals to only make any announcement of new pokemon by certain magazines (wich may or may not start with coro)

What if. Now hold on everyone.

Remember everyone saying these games might be Gen 6.5? What if the games we know ourselves as Gen 6 are actually a preview set of games for what's REALLY going to come in Gen VII? I mean isn't it possible that these games might actually be used to continue Zygarde's story or other such stories?
