As anybody who frequents Shoddy will know, Garchomp is pretty darn popular at the moment...perhaps on as much as 8/10 competitive teams. You'd be a fool to not prepare for it.

But in your opinion, which is the best of Garchomp's movesets, and which one would YOU use?

Hopefully we can use the poll to do a bit research and see which Garchomp set is the most common/dangerous.

I've voted for ChainChomp. Catches so many opponents off-guard, and is still more than capable of physical sweeping with 330 attack, Swords Dance, Life Orb and a 150 power move.

Sure if you want, there's a thread about that on Page 1 atm. But different sets have different counters, and it's always good knowledge to know what the most commonly used set is.

Some people underestimate the CBchomp compared to the other sets, imo. I use it, and slamming things with 530+ Attack and over 330 Speed on STAB Earthquake and Outrage is nice. Even though it's not fast like the Scarf variant, or versatile like Chainchomp, that extra bit of "oomph" is what I find most enjoyable. Besides, with CB, you can switch out and not lose your boosts, unless you're using Outrage, of course.

Well, effective isn't the right word. Something on the lines of: finding a loophole to the evasion clause.

At any rate, I found yache berry on the standard chomp pretty useful. I switch in chomp, swords dance, and see what the other guy is doing. There, only something with super defenses like cresselia can come in and somehow damage me, so I switch out to cbtar, use pursuit or something, and bring chomp back in. Skarm is probably the only catch though.

Btw, I never really thought of it like this....but chomp actually is as powerful as heracross, both attack and move power.

Garchomp's used twice as much as Blissey but people whine and say Bliss is OU on the same thread as their team with Chomp on it. Otherwise Chomp is a decent sweeper IMO.

I voted for the standard set because a Swords Danced Life Orb'd Earthquake will hurt anything that isn't immune to it. Choice Scarf Garchomp is probably the 2nd best set imo.

All of these sets would be much weaker if not for the existance of the others. :/

ie-- the element of Surprise helps Garchomp a lot-- especially chain chomp.

i have to go with chain chomp simply because it just so random and just fucks up teams expecting the physical chomps

A 394 attack stat is fun to play with especially when you are almost always faster than you opponent. I vote choice scarf.

all i know is that i hate using eq as they bring in a salamence, something chomp should have -no- problem ohko'ing, and having to switch out because they're locked in. LO SDChomp ftw, bab(ies).

choice scarf, guess why? It's the best and most powerful revenge killer of the game and the best late game sweeper.

Chainchomp all the way. I use my own variant of chaonchomp. Its soooo good

But this thread is about which is the best, not the most common. I suppose that means we're supposed to find the counter for the best one, but different Chomps may be able to counter that too...meh.

Heh, yeah...

I run no boost chainchomp, replacing sword dance with Outrage. Kills physical wall with draco meteor. Special walls take a Outrage to the face. Also his main late game attack

Heh I'm a demented abuser of the Subveil Brightpowder Chomp.

And Flash_gearz, what the fuck is up with your avatar.

ScarfChomp owns, it's a really good revenge killer, and it owns fast stuff like ScarfCross, Weavile (Ice Shard won't OHKO but Outrage will) and the less common Jolteon.

I don't know how you can call Garchomp a revenge killer since whatever just killed something can just switch out. "revenge killer" is a title reserved to dugtrio and things with a powerful pursuit like weavile IMO.

The most effective Garchomp set is definitely the standard swords dance sweeper since NOTHING walls it (Garchomp's #1 "wall", Cresselia, is 2hko'd by Swords Dance Life Orb Dragon Claw!). People have this misconception that a sweeper needs to take out an entire team in order to be effective, but the days of 6-0 sweeps are over given the popularity of Focus Sash and Choice Scarf. And though that Garchomp absolutely can't sweep a team that has Starmie or Weavile or something on it, it is certainly difficult to get them in without something dying. And this Outrageless Garchomp can simply switch out of them when they do show up.

scarfchomp all te way baby! give it adamant, 240 Speed EV's for in the unlikely event the scarf is Knocked Off and watch the non-boosted Sala's be outrun.

Never used Garchomp. In my opinion, all of those sets are good in their own different ways.

Same here. I personally never considered anything without a strong Pursuit (TTar/Weavile) or a trapping ability a revenge-killer.

That's a point a lot of people forget pertains very much to DP: you're not really going to get away with a clean sweep with something that doesn't have 2 DDs in DP, and Garchomp does the "one turn of setup" thing better than arguably any non-uber pokemon.
