And a lot more news to talk about then I thought there would be:
POKEMON:
Rockruff:
Oh yeah, we had two Pokemon only revealed in Japan to get info on. Iwanko is now Rockruff (get it? "Ruff" is a sound a dog makes AND sounds like "rough". You know, like how rocks are rough... let's move on). Anyway it's a cute name.
Rockruff has a good sense of smell so guessing it'll get Odor Sleuth.
So it evolves and its evolution sounds to maybe be a wilder Pokemon in behavior? Not that it means anything in-game, but interested where they take this design-wise.
Learns Bite and probably other biting moves (though unless we get a Rock-type biting move it's no big deal).
So not the most huggable Pokemon despite its appearance. It's still a Rock-type, afterall.
Komala:
Nekkoala is Komala and its Ability has been translated to... Comatose. You really want to go with that name? Something that happens mainly from heavy head injury? I would have gone with something like "Lethargic" but whatever.
It's the only Pokemon with Comatose because it goes by the idea that since this Pokemon is always asleep it can't be inflicted with other Status conditions (so how do you explain putting a sleeping Pokemon to sleep?).
... NO! EW! Why not just have a Pokemon use Sing, Yawn, or Hypnosis on you? Anyway, guessing it'll have some healing (surely it's a candidate for Slack Off, right?) and sleep-inducing moves (Yawn mainy, guess maybe also Sing?).
The log its clings to come from its parents and it can't sleep well without it. So maybe Wood Hammer and Thrash? It also clings to trainer it trusts, d'aww.
And finally it changes expression depending on what's happening around it but its actually responding to a dream its having. So, what, does its dreams recreate the world around it?
Charjabug & Vikavolt:
And it's confirmed their Grubbin's evolutions, as if that's a surprise.
Charjabug as a Signature Ability called Battery which rasies the Power of allies Special Attack as its description hinted at. So they made a mid-stage Pokemon with possible competitive use? Alright, if that's the way you want to go with it... I suppose as long as its defensive stats and HP is high enough and can hold an Eviolite.
Vikavolt gets Levitate so it escapes the curse of many winged Bug-types that are still hurt by Ground-type moves.
Also if you thought being chases by a Beedrill is bad, this thing is said to be a fast flying fortress that fires electric bolts from its jaws.
So Acrobatics & U-turn (even though it more sounds like a Special Attacker)? We're also told it picks up Charjabug to use as a battery and can drop it during fierce battles to make itself lighter and faster (yet it doesn't get Unburden?). Wonder if that picking up Charjabug thing is just flavor text (and allusion to Charjabug's Battery Ability) or will there be something like a Signature Item?
Togedemaru:
You're really going for that name. Alright.
So gets Iron Barbs, guess its Japanese name "Steel THORN" is a misnomer.
Also it's called the Roly-Poly Pokemon. And now suddenly a lot of them just got the nickname "
Olly".
It can roll up into a ball so Rollout?
You know that's not a strategy limited to Togedemaru.
Tapu Koko:
LAND Spirit? The thing that has bird like traits, can fly, and is Electric-type is the LAND spirit? Okay, I suppose they could be going for the general term "land", still I think they could have picked a better species name that at first doesn't sound contradictory.
Also I think this is the first time Melemele Island is confirmed to be called that on the English site?
So it being called a "curious, little thing" is accurate, it's fickle so won't always help but if curious about someone will appear to them to play/battle. So in other words it'll be able to sense your the main character.
So it's Signature Move is Nature Madness and is a Super Fang clone. Alright, was hoping for something more interesting though I guess it spent that on Electric Surge.
Drampa:
Peaceful dragon, lives in the top of mountains alone... but the berries it feeds on are at the mountain's base. I think I see a logical problem there.
"Well maybe it doesn't like people or Pokemon". Well next sentence and paragraph goes against that idea saying it loves communicating with people and other Pokemon, gentle with children (and appears where children gather... which sounds bit creepy), and will fly into a rage if someone it cares for gets hurt. Why are you living alone in the mountains again?
Anyway Sap Sipper probably there to show its gentleness, but it's helpful as its a good switch-in against Grass-types. Signature Ability is Berserk and, as I said, if it gets a healing move it can be real useful as it raises Special Attack by one stage when its HP goes below half.
Cutiefly:
Bee Fly is a bit on the nose there. And Cutiefly joins Joltic and Flabebe as the smallest Pokemon. However its massive weight of .4 pounds means Gastly, Haunter, and Flabebe are still lighter than it. Next luck next time.
So they sense emotions as auras and when people and Pokemon are excited their auras look like flowers in bloom thus attracted to them. Considering they feed on flowers depending on the color and brightness of their aura I see a problem with this.
Gets Honey Gather (GF, you know bee flies aren't actually bees, right?) which is useless, though both Pokemon who previously got Honey Gather evolve (Teddiursa and Combee) so there's hope for it yet. Though for now it has Shield Dust but I'll be honest and say I'm not holding out any hope for its evolution to be any good.
Bruxish:
So it does get Strong Jaw, so can we also maybe get a Water- and/or Psychic-type Biting move so its not a complete waste on it (Crunch and the Elemental Fangs are fine, but really. On that same note can we have a Rock or Dragon-type biting move for the Tyrunt family)?
Dazzling is confirmed Signature, that's a shame. Now it sounds like a Physical Attacker but its type doesn't really support that category. It also gets Abilities with one doesn't have a move which it gets STAB from and another is more handy in the Doubles & Triples meta game though it's not a defensive Pokemon. However it does sound like it may have an extensive Status movepool.
Unfortunately that doesn't prevent IT from being the dangerous Pokemon, a Pokemon who causes horrible headaches with its psychic powers and bites. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
Zygarde:
So finally we know what's the HP requirement for Power Contruct (I like Swarm Change better) is: below half. Oh my Arceus that's scary. Just half? Well good thing it doesn't learn Belly Drum!
Core Enforcer remove Abilities which I guess makes up for Power Construct probably not giving Complete Forme any additional effect (course if its a Dragon-type move than Fairies are safe).
Wait, so Complete Forme is five Cores instead of two? Wait, five cores which combine into a mecha... Zygarde Complete is a Super Sentai/Power Ranger Megazord! We know there's a Red Core and Blue Core, so what are the other colors?
I like how they just skim over 50%, just mentioning it now gets Power Contruct. :P
Though 10% gives us an interesting tibit about it. It says 10% can operate seperately from 50% as it only needs one Core to run, so does that mean 50% needs two or more? Its fast, has sharp fangs, and can also know Aura Break (so if it wants it can operate as its own Pokemon). I'll reserve judgement until I see its stats.
Well that settles that. Guessing we'd need to take Zygarde someplace where we can have it change its Forme, someplace Cores and Cells gather (maybe the giant tree on that rocky island).
COOL FEATURES:
Nothing really here to talk about but the pictures they provide are promising:
First is just a goregous view of inside the forest. I see some interesting spots like a small hole at the base of a rock to the right. Also there's layers of elevation (but probably no platforming, we'd need a jump button for that and the Legend of Zelda series just got that major innovation so we'd probably need to wait a bit longer).
THUNDER ARMOR!
WOOT! Riding Pokemon are back. Though riding on a back of a Pokemon can be dangerous so make sure to wear a helmet. Judging by the collar on the Stoutland it's probably not ours
*sigh*.
