Gen VII: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New info Post #5834)

Not open for further replies.
I will just train all the new pokémons like I did in Y. It's so much fun to get Magikarp->Gyarados moments and/or using starting crap pokémon late in the game.

And a lot more news to talk about then I thought there would be:

POKEMON:
Rockruff:

Oh yeah, we had two Pokemon only revealed in Japan to get info on. Iwanko is now Rockruff (get it? "Ruff" is a sound a dog makes AND sounds like "rough". You know, like how rocks are rough... let's move on). Anyway it's a cute name.
Rockruff has a good sense of smell so guessing it'll get Odor Sleuth.

Rockruff is a sociable Pokemon, but as it grows, its disposition gets wilder. If it begins to howl when the sun goes down, that is proof that it’s close to evolving. It’s said that it leaves its Trainer’s side to evolve and returns again when fully evolved.

So it evolves and its evolution sounds to maybe be a wilder Pokemon in behavior? Not that it means anything in-game, but interested where they take this design-wise.
Learns Bite and probably other biting moves (though unless we get a Rock-type biting move it's no big deal).

Rockruff greet others by rubbing the rocks around their necks against the other. This grating greeting is an expression of fondness, but a Trainer may find that love hurts.

So not the most huggable Pokemon despite its appearance. It's still a Rock-type, afterall.

Komala:
Nekkoala is Komala and its Ability has been translated to... Comatose. You really want to go with that name? Something that happens mainly from heavy head injury? I would have gone with something like "Lethargic" but whatever.
It's the only Pokemon with Comatose because it goes by the idea that since this Pokemon is always asleep it can't be inflicted with other Status conditions (so how do you explain putting a sleeping Pokemon to sleep?).

Its saliva can be used as medicine for the sick or sleepless, according to ancient people. They say if you take a small amount of the saliva remaining after it eats leaves, water the saliva down, and drink it, you’ll be able to sleep well.

... NO! EW! Why not just have a Pokemon use Sing, Yawn, or Hypnosis on you? Anyway, guessing it'll have some healing (surely it's a candidate for Slack Off, right?) and sleep-inducing moves (Yawn mainy, guess maybe also Sing?).
The log its clings to come from its parents and it can't sleep well without it. So maybe Wood Hammer and Thrash? It also clings to trainer it trusts, d'aww.
And finally it changes expression depending on what's happening around it but its actually responding to a dream its having. So, what, does its dreams recreate the world around it?

Charjabug & Vikavolt:
And it's confirmed their Grubbin's evolutions, as if that's a surprise.
Charjabug as a Signature Ability called Battery which rasies the Power of allies Special Attack as its description hinted at. So they made a mid-stage Pokemon with possible competitive use? Alright, if that's the way you want to go with it... I suppose as long as its defensive stats and HP is high enough and can hold an Eviolite.
Vikavolt gets Levitate so it escapes the curse of many winged Bug-types that are still hurt by Ground-type moves.
Also if you thought being chases by a Beedrill is bad, this thing is said to be a fast flying fortress that fires electric bolts from its jaws.

Vikavolt is adept at acrobatic flight maneuvers like tailspins and sharp turns. It can fly at high speeds even as it weaves its way through the complicated tangle of branches in the forest.

So Acrobatics & U-turn (even though it more sounds like a Special Attacker)? We're also told it picks up Charjabug to use as a battery and can drop it during fierce battles to make itself lighter and faster (yet it doesn't get Unburden?). Wonder if that picking up Charjabug thing is just flavor text (and allusion to Charjabug's Battery Ability) or will there be something like a Signature Item?

Togedemaru:
You're really going for that name. Alright.
So gets Iron Barbs, guess its Japanese name "Steel THORN" is a misnomer.
Also it's called the Roly-Poly Pokemon. And now suddenly a lot of them just got the nickname "Olly".
It can roll up into a ball so Rollout?

Some skilled Trainers have developed the strategy of getting other Pokémon to unleash Electric-type attacks on Togedemaru, which absorbs their power to use in a response attack!

You know that's not a strategy limited to Togedemaru.

Tapu Koko:
Category: Land Spirit Pokemon
LAND Spirit? The thing that has bird like traits, can fly, and is Electric-type is the LAND spirit? Okay, I suppose they could be going for the general term "land", still I think they could have picked a better species name that at first doesn't sound contradictory.
Also I think this is the first time Melemele Island is confirmed to be called that on the English site?
So it being called a "curious, little thing" is accurate, it's fickle so won't always help but if curious about someone will appear to them to play/battle. So in other words it'll be able to sense your the main character.
So it's Signature Move is Nature Madness and is a Super Fang clone. Alright, was hoping for something more interesting though I guess it spent that on Electric Surge.

Drampa:
Peaceful dragon, lives in the top of mountains alone... but the berries it feeds on are at the mountain's base. I think I see a logical problem there.
"Well maybe it doesn't like people or Pokemon". Well next sentence and paragraph goes against that idea saying it loves communicating with people and other Pokemon, gentle with children (and appears where children gather... which sounds bit creepy), and will fly into a rage if someone it cares for gets hurt. Why are you living alone in the mountains again?
Anyway Sap Sipper probably there to show its gentleness, but it's helpful as its a good switch-in against Grass-types. Signature Ability is Berserk and, as I said, if it gets a healing move it can be real useful as it raises Special Attack by one stage when its HP goes below half.

Cutiefly:
Category: Bee Fly Pokemon
Height: 0'04"
Weight: 0.4 lbs.

Bee Fly is a bit on the nose there. And Cutiefly joins Joltic and Flabebe as the smallest Pokemon. However its massive weight of .4 pounds means Gastly, Haunter, and Flabebe are still lighter than it. Next luck next time.
So they sense emotions as auras and when people and Pokemon are excited their auras look like flowers in bloom thus attracted to them. Considering they feed on flowers depending on the color and brightness of their aura I see a problem with this.
Gets Honey Gather (GF, you know bee flies aren't actually bees, right?) which is useless, though both Pokemon who previously got Honey Gather evolve (Teddiursa and Combee) so there's hope for it yet. Though for now it has Shield Dust but I'll be honest and say I'm not holding out any hope for its evolution to be any good.

Bruxish:
So it does get Strong Jaw, so can we also maybe get a Water- and/or Psychic-type Biting move so its not a complete waste on it (Crunch and the Elemental Fangs are fine, but really. On that same note can we have a Rock or Dragon-type biting move for the Tyrunt family)?
Dazzling is confirmed Signature, that's a shame. Now it sounds like a Physical Attacker but its type doesn't really support that category. It also gets Abilities with one doesn't have a move which it gets STAB from and another is more handy in the Doubles & Triples meta game though it's not a defensive Pokemon. However it does sound like it may have an extensive Status movepool.

In the Alola region, lifeguards let Bruxish remain in their area to prevent dangerous Water-type Pokémon from gathering there.

Unfortunately that doesn't prevent IT from being the dangerous Pokemon, a Pokemon who causes horrible headaches with its psychic powers and bites. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Zygarde:
So finally we know what's the HP requirement for Power Contruct (I like Swarm Change better) is: below half. Oh my Arceus that's scary. Just half? Well good thing it doesn't learn Belly Drum!
Core Enforcer remove Abilities which I guess makes up for Power Construct probably not giving Complete Forme any additional effect (course if its a Dragon-type move than Fairies are safe).

Its wings and tail each have their own Core. Each Core serves as a brain and can make decisions and act independently.

Wait, so Complete Forme is five Cores instead of two? Wait, five cores which combine into a mecha... Zygarde Complete is a Super Sentai/Power Ranger Megazord! We know there's a Red Core and Blue Core, so what are the other colors?
I like how they just skim over 50%, just mentioning it now gets Power Contruct. :P
Though 10% gives us an interesting tibit about it. It says 10% can operate seperately from 50% as it only needs one Core to run, so does that mean 50% needs two or more? Its fast, has sharp fangs, and can also know Aura Break (so if it wants it can operate as its own Pokemon). I'll reserve judgement until I see its stats.

Neither Cores nor Cells have the power to battle on their own as individuals. Only when gathered together can they take action—as Zygarde.

Well that settles that. Guessing we'd need to take Zygarde someplace where we can have it change its Forme, someplace Cores and Cells gather (maybe the giant tree on that rocky island).

COOL FEATURES:
Nothing really here to talk about but the pictures they provide are promising:

1.jpg

First is just a goregous view of inside the forest. I see some interesting spots like a small hole at the base of a rock to the right. Also there's layers of elevation (but probably no platforming, we'd need a jump button for that and the Legend of Zelda series just got that major innovation so we'd probably need to wait a bit longer).
2.jpg

THUNDER ARMOR!
3.jpg

WOOT! Riding Pokemon are back. Though riding on a back of a Pokemon can be dangerous so make sure to wear a helmet. Judging by the collar on the Stoutland it's probably not ours *sigh*.

So Pikaclone has two useful abilities and an awesome typing? I. Am. Using. This. Pokemon. On. My. Team.

The others are pretty cool, I guess. I generally pay more attention to what they do than how they look. If it's ugly and it works, it ain't ugly to me.

It looks like the official site has finally told us roughly what Ash-Greninja actually is.
http://www.pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-us/a-sneak-peek-at-new-features/
"you’ll discover moves more powerful than any seen before".
If you have been watching any of the amine you will see that Ash-ninja uses a powered up Water Shuriken which does the major damage. It seems that these Syncro's do not get a bst boost but instead get a super OP move that makes its power levels rival megas.
Pikachu seems to be the next in line to get this kind of form change,as his cheeks have turned white-pink and its move is confirmed to be super powerful. Oh and the professor studies moves? What more confirmation is needed? As the form change occurs mid battle the super move must be based on a regular attack, such as Pikachu's thunderbolt. Both the water shuriken and thunderbolt are golden coloured as well if you need any more proof.

I sure hope ice types get more of these nice new moves. Ice types have been weak for too long.

That'd be interesting. The screenshot of Pikachu with its white-cheeks definitely hints at something. Though I wonder if that's something different from the Ash-Greninja phenomena. The Pikachu in the screenshot doesn't change in its appearance, unlike Ash-Greninja. And from the anime, we've seen that Ash-Greninja seems to be much faster and stronger than normal Greninja, which implies some sort of stat boost.

Eco sentai Zygradranger?
Zygrad-Oh?

ZygradRed
ZygradBlue
ZygradYellow
ZygradGreen(?)
ZygradEmerald
ZygradeWhite
And, assuming it doesn't get skipped by Saban, it will be dubbed as: Power Rangers Zygarde Wrath and Power Rangers Super Zygarde Wrath with the Zygarde Enforcer Megazord! Watch as the Power Rangers protect Tokyo Core City from attack from the evil Ms. X and Mr. Y. Coming this fall to Nickelodeon!

(Seriously though, I'd pay to watch this)

To all the people saying bruxish is ugly, I think it's intentional. I'm pretty sure it's based off the flamboyant, drag queen trope.

It's based off of a Humuhumunukunukuapuaa which unfortunately have weird bodies and huge lips, much like Lionhead's have giant craniums (and I'd like a Pokemon based off those eventually too). Sure, it's not the prettiest fish, but at least it's accurate - I guess. [Since its name is based on 'teeth grinding (bruxism)' and it has large teeth, so bruxism-fish, maybe it gets sleep moves.

You sure? Well if it doesn't switch, it won't be, but I mean when it attempts to switch. Pursuit gains Priority and attacks but will Dazzle trigger?

I think not. By the time you switch the ability is deactivated.
So, Zygrad-Oh is made for battle... It's able to use its full power...

Due it its high hp stat does anything else think it might have an 800+ BST?

800+ doesn't seems enough to me, something around the 1200+ is more plausible.

I think this is new. From the video on Magearna's section on the official site. It's the same battle showing off Soul Heart, but now it doesn't cut away at the start of the fight and we get to see Magearna's HP. Realistically (i.e. assuming no EVs) its base HP range is 80-95, but factoring in the small possibility of EVs it could be as low as 48. Might be worth noting that the Eevee beside Magearna has 0 IV/0 EVs, so if Magearna shares that trait it would have base 95 HP. Regardless, it seems Magearna is not a straight 100 base Pokemon, though this isn't too surprising after Gen VI took a break from using this uninspired stat spread.

Ya know, for all the bashing we did on gamefreak for the months of no news, they are doing this fantastically well from a marketing standpoint. These sporadic bursts of news are doing nothing but fueling up the hype trains of fans everywhere. Having slight (ever so slight) differences in the trailers, releasing English translations immediately, and other little tidbits are really making this "worldwide release" much more cohesive and makes it feel a lot bigger.

And speaking of Komala/Nekkoala, why would they name its ability after a coma? Seems really fucking weird in my opinion. Judging from what's come out so far I'm expecting a bulky Normal-type. (I'm not sure if its attack will be any good at all though)

Rockruff is a dumb name in my opinion, but the Pokemon itself looks promising. Primarily because it's likely to be a fast Rock-type that's not Aerodactyl or Archeops, so that's always nice.

Cutiefly will likely suffer from the same thing as Dedenne or Sableye prior to that thing getting Prankster. Decent typing, god awful everything else. I want it to get a good evolution but I don't even know if it'll get one or not.

Pikachu the Hedgehog thing is cute I guess. I also saw a Twitter post yesterday (Or was it today? Can't remember really) about how the Pikaclones are getting fatter each generation and I actually find it pretty damn true. (Ironic as Pikachu itself was chubby back in generation 1)

Drampa is likely to be specially-based Druddigon. At least this one has a good design going for it. (Though I believe the best Normal-type move it'll ever get is like Uproar/Hyper Voice if its a special attacker)

Vikavolt looks pretty damn cool actually. I'm not sure how strong/weak it'll be though, but it's likely to be on par with Vivillon at least. Only having Levitate as an ability though kind of sucks because it kills any chance of it getting a hidden ability.

1785 is the highest BST any Pokemon can have assuming one has 255 in every stat. It's safe to say Zygrad-Oh is going to have high stats... (Maybe not speed though)

I've just remembered that Dazzling exists. If it does what I think it does for Bruxish (blocks priority moves) it may actually be a Talonflame counter depending on it's stat spread. If it gets Aqua Jet or a higher speed stat than Talon it'd definitely make it's life incredibly hard assuming it can take two Flare Blitzes.

Didn't they screw with Zygarde?

>Zygarde 10% and 50% can have both Aura Breaker and Power Construct. Zygarde 100% only has as ability Power Construct, which is useless since Zygarde 100% is already the final form
>Zygarde 100% signature move, Core Enforcer, only erase abilities of opponent if they have alredy used a move, making Zygarde being last in move for the move to get its effect.

{How to make a mon broken 101}
Person 1: Let's give the thing a good ability, on top of its monstrous stats!
Person 2: Sounds like a great idea!

Drampa has Sap Sipper...to be honest, I'm not surprised. There was a gut feeling I had that it would be like Goodra, and there it is. And due to that, I'm starting to warm up to it. I might just use one in my playthrough.

And Comatose is the worst ability name ever. It would have been better as so many other translations (I liked Sure Sleeper, the Bulbapedia translation of it's Japanese name).

The battle music used in the English trailer is great.

Also, it is looking like Tapu Koko is a legendary, though it isn't confirmed. If it is, I'll gladly be using Vikavolt.

... The more I see it, the more I like it. The woods looks so great. I wonder if this is more than just normal woods.

Damn, the area by the Bell Tower in Ecruteak (HGSS, of course) just got beaten in the "best looking area in a main series Pokémon game" category.

It looks like the official site has finally told us roughly what Ash-Greninja actually is.

You pulled Ash-Greninja out of nowhere.

No, it's 1530. 1785 would be base 297.5 across all six stats or 255 across seven stats.

Am I the only person here who likes Nekkoala more than Komala?
Nope. I really like the old name, but I'll likely get over it like I always do.

I seriously don't want Pokemon fusions (IE: Ash-Greninja) to be a thing in the games. IMO I'd much prefer for Megas to stay. (Cause they got so many ideas for Megas that they completely skipped over during Gen 6, as well as a few other ones (If Solrock/Lunatone don't get buffed this gen I'll be a sad panda))

But who knows what that crystal thing that many speculate to be related to supposed fusions actually does?
