Ok now im just wondering,IS there anything wrong with being gay?The Bible says so but is the Bible correct?I guess just post your opinion and your reason for thinking so.Oh,and if this is the wrong place please move it.

EDIT:my source is in the bible it says a man shall not lay with another man as one would with a woman i may have paraphrased that a bit but thats the gist of it

"fact or opinion" is an extremely immature way of looking at it. in fact it's the problem with modern day right wing thinking in the Bible belt. You either believe that there was some garden ans some talking devil snake, or you are not a good christian.

To me the bible is partly a book of stories, and partly a loose historical account (mostly in the Jesus part, but even then it was written after he died)

I try to take into account the teachings of jesus when I think about christianity's ideals. all he said was that be a good dude, don't go out into the world with hatred for others, and try to love people as much as you can.

Theres alot of wierd shit in the Bible, God is often hella pissed at people, like the egyptians etc.

Personally, I don't think Jesus had a problem with homosexuality just because he was a really cool dude. The vast majority of the christian right thinks otherwise of course. theres alot of things the bible says is worng that they dont have a problem with though (divorce, women teaching etc) , so try not to think of it too explicitly

lol wut
source kthnx.

not to be a dick, but this is congregation, dont post stuff like this :o

:( I really did want a source, book, chapter, and verse. Preferably more than one, cuz I can't see anywhere that he might be getting this from. Especially if we get into Old vs New Testament, all that "wrathful God" stuff was replaced by the Jesus "cool dude" stuff. And I agree that "fact or opinion" is a bad way to put it, because it's a false dilemma, not allowing for any middle ground. Additionally, this doesn't take into account non-Scripture theology.

From what I can tell, the Bible has absolutely no problem with gay people themselves, only gay sexual activities, which is really just part of a larger issue with sexual activities for any purpose other than to produce children. This stems from the Bible's real purpose - as an attempt to teach morality. This has often been ignored, unfortunately.

Bible-supporters are pretty big on their opposition to all contraceptives, which makes sense in that context, so yeah, I guess.

I think that this gives all the evidence you need!

Leviticus 20:13, "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

That is the verse that you were referencing.

I think what Gormenghast said was spot on, and that whilst the bible may contain traces of truth, that youd be stupid to take everything at face value.

There's nothing wrong with gay people, it was just more frowned upon in society back then.

I agree that a historical context for the Bible is important too - keep in mind that in the era the Bible was made, there was widespread lack of morality, and people often engaged in homosexual acts not for love, but for lust.
