Unpopular opinions

The more I think of it, and the more I'd be terrified of being in the Pokemon world, with so many inanimate objects that you would not think they are haunted, yet they are, and are going to rip your soul away from you...

Fast excavalier. Sinnoh hillbillies.

Take them with a grain of salt, after all most Pokémon just want to befriend some kid to reach their full potential in battle.

Have you seen those pokemon drawings by Junji Ito? Your post made me think of them. I think he's only done Gengar and Banette, but he does a really good job at highlighting their creepiness. As to be expected of an acclaimed horror mangaka. I wish he'd do more. There's a lot of potential. Pokemon in general is kinda terrifying if you think about it. They're far stronger than regular animals, and many have creepy backgrounds (like the aforementioned sandcastle.) Humans are lucky that all pokemon are easily tameable.

I've never seen Junji, but I've seen Arvalis' realistic Pokemon art. If Pokemon were in the real world, we'd definitely need to keep an eye out....

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but I don't like this guy's work. I hate when people try to make "realistic" versions of pokemon but they're all unnecessarily creepy/ugly. I guess certain pokemon would make sense, but there is no need for a Dragonite to look like...THAT.

Yes, it seems they are just tryharding on grossing out the audience instead of taking an actual realistic approach. Ever touched an axolotl? They are slimy but silky smooth, ever pet an heloderma, it's dry but the granules are actually smooth and don't overlap with the coloring of the lizard, they are just accentuating skin issues and eye sizes that are unconventional to the head size to create a disturbance in our proportion measurement part of our brain in order to gather views out of a "reaction" rather than being a depiction of what it is supposed to be.

Take at ultra gore vs normal gore, ultra gore is the laughing stock of the two given that it just tries to be morbid and never grows out of it or tries to go beyond the statement of "this is your next limit".

These realistic pokemon are nothing but the author trying to draw views by grossing the viewers rather than by the quality of the art itself.

I do agree with this, I don't think most of these drawings actually accurately represent what Pokemon would look like in real life, but I do still like to look at them cause they're pretty amusing.

Maybe I should of chosen some different ones, oops. :/ Part of what I like with his depictions is that in the post, he also explains their behaviors. Trevenant for example in his is a cephalopod that hollows out trees to use as protection, giving the appearance of a haunted tree. Or I may just be biased because he's the artist for Saurian.

But... Trevenant isn't a cephalopod living in what looks like a hollowed out tree. It literally is a haunted tree. How else would Trevenant be able to display spectral powers?

Again, they are try harding and eventually break the concept of the Pokémon entirely.

Also that vulpix looks more like a Xolo than a fox, I live in an area surrounded by foxes and even the ones with terminal rabies of the aggressive kind, not the full paralyzing one, don't look that bad. It looks like a Xolo, I know since my aunt used to breed these little guys for a living, so trust me, it's face and leg structure conflicts with that of an actual fox.

I used to play with the Xolos of my aunt when I was little since they are almost hairless bags of fun, they still have hair on their head and tails. Up to this day jackals and foxes roam my city, heck some people's at animal control believe there might be reproductive population of a jackal and fox hybrid around our city outskirts.

How do I know how a rabid fox looks like? Well foxes are nocturnal in the city, so when you see one in the day, well you know rabies is already at a stage where it fucked up its internal clock and it's starting to develop the biting reflex, those poor guys look very demacrated when compared to the fairly fat ones at night to boot, the most humane thing to do is to call for animal control so they are put out of their misery.

I believe the idea is to provide reasonable explanations for pokemons designs if they were real. For example, a haunted tree cannot actually exist in real life, whereas a cephalopod living in a tree, however unlikely or implausible, could technically exist in our world.

Although I'm not sure how unpopular this opinion is, I honestly think Pokemon GO is pretty boring and bare-bones. I understand that they didn't want to overwhelm mobile players and bog the game down with a turn-based battle system, but there aren't enough features right now (at least not the ones I gravitate towards in Pokemon) to hold my attention.

Yeah, I completely agree. At the very least you should be able to battle random passerbyes if you want.

That's not what "The Future is Wild" told us, they predicted after human are gone that I think 200 million years later the Earth will be inherited by tree swinging octopuses (though now thinking about it some of the animals from that special would make for great Pokemon designs. Ooh, and also "Alien Planet").

Honestly I feel that the Team Flare grunts were the best grunts so far. I really love their poses, their hair, how they're all decked out in red, and that they're wearing sunglasses.

My favorite is BW(1) Team Plasma grunts. I like knight stuff so their knight templar motif appeals to me plus it matches their goals; they think they're being knights for Pokemon.

Honestly, I hated the design of the Flare grunts.

Also that every single member of Team Flare got 3D models in X/Y but basically nobody else did (not even the gym leaders, Elite Four, or Diantha, iirc).

I'm honestly not at all interested in the idea of a light type. Unless some other type gets out of hand and starts becoming too powerful, I see literally no reason for light type to be a thing. I know it's just wishful thinking for most people, and I hate to be the "stop having fun" person, but it's an idea that's persisted within the pokemon fandom for years even though it wouldn't add anything to pokemon.

Ugh, Light-type. Light-type is a misunderstanding and something that won't ever be a thing (along with Sound-type). Light-type stems from there being a Dark-type. Except in Japan the Dark-type is called the Evil-type and the concept behind it is they fight dirty. Okay, some Dark-types involve the night and the powers of darkness, but those are exceptions (much like how space and magic is often affiliated with the Psychic-type). There's already a natural counter to the Dark-type, the Fighting-type. Where Dark-types fight dirty the Fighting-types symbolize honorable fighting (many being based off forms of martial arts) and that focus and dedication will overcome any pranks and tricks a Dark-type would try to pull.

Also what would be the type match-ups for Light- (and Sound) type be? Okay, you got "Dark"-type but what else? It's a difficult type to assign match-ups to as its a vague concept.

The reason there should never be a Light type is that it doesn't make any sense. Whether it would help balance the game is irrelevant. If they wanted to add a type, they'd have to figure out an actually valid option.

Actually, the concept of "Light" is already covered by three types: Fighting symbolizes justice's triumph over crime; Psychic focuses on enlightenment of one's intellect; Fairy revolves around holy and celestial magic and is the closest to a "Light" or "Holy" type. People just like to bitch about Fairy's alleged girliness, when fairies of folklore are assholes, to put it lightly.

Also, we kinda (emphasis on kinda) got it in the form of Fairy.
