Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

Hello everyone !

I have a theorie based on oricorio birds (and i dunno if someone already written it !) The description sayed that oricorio birds have « four différents forms – the same as the number os island in alola… » My theory is « the type of each oricorio is the main type of each gardian of island ! »

So we have :

Flying/electric -> tapu koko with electric/fairy.

Flying/fire : one with fire…and maybe fairy ?

Flying/psychic : psychic…fairy ?

Flying/ghost : and another ghost…fairy ?

What do you think guys ? (Sorry for my baaad english…)

It's okay. I'm sure you speak my tongue far better than I could ever learn yours! :p

And the notion of Oricorio being related to the Guardian Quad is something I've thought of too. It remains to be seen if that will actually be the case though.

About Raichuu and pancakes....

Considering we have berries that is pretty... weird too such as one that holds super effective moves once, let one move first, or even hurt attacking Pokemon, I would say it is at least plausible that Raichuu's pancakes is topped with this kind of berry. Maybe it is the Psychic-holding berry.

... what on earth am I talking about again? This is surely just a joke, but....

Anyway, about the four guardians, wasn't it leaked that one of them is Water/Fairy to match Kanaloa (wasn't it?). Indeed though, this is yet to be seen and that leak has no correct guesses unlike the starters, but the parallel of the four guardians with the Hawaiian gods are strong reason to think of these types.

Also, now I get into thinking... what are Solgaleo and Lunaala's relation to Hawaiian myth (if there's any)? Or not at all? Since... they are Latin....

Well, there are things known as fritters. They're pancake-like food that's essentially like breaded fruit topped with sugar and syrup. So a berry fritter would make sense.

Guys, can someone clarify the whole Battle Cap section in Hyper Training?

If I read the article on serebii correctly, when can now manipulate IV'S?
Yep, if you pay with a Silver Bottle Cap, you can change one IV to 31 per Bottle Cap. It's heavily implied that that there's a Gold Bottle Cap that can probably be used to change all IVs to 31.

Yes, that is correct. In sun and moon we can change IVs. How easy it will be to do is unknown, but it is confirmed that at the very least we can max out one stat on a Pokemon (most likely more, just not confirmed yet).

That is game changing!

Holy crap, so all the old event pokes I have with the right natures and terrible IV's can be good now! YES!!

EDIT: Does anybody know if those silver caps can be used to increase the IV incrementally to say, 30? Or does it immediately jump to 31? Just curious about Hidden Power spreads.

I highly doubt that you'll be able to choose 30. I think that you'll still need to get natural 30s. If Hyper Training doesn't change Hidden Power, then you can just go for whatever Hidden Power you want regardless of IVs then fix them.

From the little we've seen, Silver boosts any one stat all the way to 31. We don't know if there are lesser ones that raise it incrementally at this moment, though it does seem likely.

Welcome to Smogon!

While I guess the option isn't off the table, there isn't any evidence to suggest Oricorio is related to "guardian" pokemon like Tapu Koko, other than that pom-pom form and Tapu Koko share the electric type, which is likely just a coincidence until proven otherwise.

More likely is that the four types are reflections of the four dance styles:
-The fiery passion of Baile and Flamenco
-The high spirited energy of the cheerleader Pom-pom form
-The mentally relaxing hula of Pa'u style
-The spiritual and soulful Sensu style

You probably didn't know, but we try to keep speculation to a minimum just because there isn't much to talk about and it encourages wishlisting. Unless the evidence is very strong, try to stick to what's already confirmed.

About the Hidden Powers, in addition to adding a Fairy-typed one, it's time to give them physical versions, as the move that consumes a berry to deal typed damaged (I'm confused with the name) is very quirky, as it only works once and has different BPs. Since GF already took that from HPs, it's not too outside of the metas of the game.
Also, it brings again them to a even number (34), althrough they can also redo the entire system, so that's why I'm not going to add this to my wishlist.

It's neat they're going to start mixing up what Poke Balls NPCs use. While a small touch it does sort of help world build as it shows you aren't the only ones the Mart is selling Poke Balls to. It would also be neat if the type of Poke Ball they used help indicate something about the Pokemon, like since these grunts have a Haunter and Drowzee in Nest Balls that means you can catch Drowzee and Gastly at low levels.

Being the wishful thinker I am, the first thing I thought when watching the Japanese trailer was that the Safari Zone was confirmed. I've watched this specific part a few times to try and figure out which Pokeball it actually is, since I know Nest Balls are way darker in-game than the sprite is, but I'm still not sure. Maybe my personal bias is blinding me haha.

Nest vs Safari aside, having the NPC's Pokemon in non-standard balls is (no joke) my favourite minor change so far. I remember thinking it was cool that they updated it in ORAS so you could see the Pokeball type when using Fly rather than the cutscene just using a standard ball. I hope we see things like gym leaders / E4 / bosses / etc. sending out their ace Pokemon in a Premier Ball, or some guy with a legendary sending his out in a Master Ball. Will some NPC's do what we do and match their Pokemon and Pokeball type based on aesthetic similarities? (like Beware in a Heal Ball, Sensu Oricorio in a Dive Ball etc.) Will Alola's version of Joey send out his level 2 "top percentage" Yungoos in an Ultra Ball? Will there be new Pokeballs..? These are the (little) things I'm excited for.

Hello and welcome!

That theory has been mentioned before, and it is a nice catch, but I'm not entirely sold on it. So far, there is correlation only on one pair of birds/islands, and the rest are unknowns. As far as I know, we haven't been told which Oricorio inhabit which island either.

It also crashes slightly with another theory, that the various Guardian Pokémon have abilities that set the various Terrain moves, which would imply at least a Grass Guardian and one pure Fairy.

Anyway, I guess we will know sooner or later. Unless TPCi slow their pace dramatically, we'll have a new batch of info within a couple of weeks.

If you find a less grainy video you can see that they're definitely nest balls.

How this has anything to do with adaptation, or evolution, or even why Pichu/Pikachu doesn't have a "Pancaked" form yet is beyond me, your guess is as good as mine.

gonna call it "pankcake form raichu" now, thanks

This actually leads me to something that I was thinking of.
So Gen VI we received the three Terrains and no one used them. There was very little that justified it. Gen VII comes along and not only gives us a Terrain streamer, but abilities that capitalize on it and it seems like we'll be getting a fourth Terrain as well.
This is just like weather. No one used them in Generation II since there wasn't much benefit to them, then we received streamers and abilities to capitalize on in in Generation III with a fourth weather added (Hail).
You don't think that Generation IX will be Terrain Wars? (This part's a joke)
I wish that I could speculate on what a fourth one could be, but it's impossible considering that Terrain isn't as easy as Weather to easily guess mechanically. I think the only thing we could eliminate is the fourth Guardian be Flying since a Flying Terrain doesn't make much sense. And I would also guess that any type directly tied to weather would likely be eliminated as well (Water, Ground, Rock, Steel, Fire, Ice).
That would leave the following:
Dragon
Dark
Fighting
Bug
Ghost
Psychic
Poison
Normal
Psychic

Bug and Poison seem unlikely (the former due to the fact that a good terrain for Bugs would be a grassy one and Poison should be obvious since Alola doesn't seem like the place to have such a toxic environment). Normal is incredibly unlikely for obvious reasons. Hmm...I just don't know.

yes there are possibilities for more terrains, and they could also make an ability that negates terrains (like Air Lock/Cloud Nine for weather) then give it to the 4th guardian, making it the master of the other 3...

They could also make the guardians mirror the type of trial captains (electric/fairy, grass/fairy, fire/fairy, water/fairy) then give them abilities that summon terrains and weathers (electric terrain, grassy terrain, sun, rain), or make a volcanic terrain and swampy terrain for the fire and water type.

There are a lot of possibilities but we will not know which route they will go until we see another guardian revealed.

Hmm...I never considered that. That would actually make more sense, to go the 50% Terrain/50% Weather. Could help Sun and Rain get better if they have Legendary Beast kind of stats, though they'll never reach the level of power they had in Generation V again.

"It has been confirmed that Shigeki Morimoto is going to show some live Pokémon Sun & Moon gameplay footage at Gamescom in Cologne on Thursday. This footage will be streamed through Nintendo Germany's Twitch channel from 17:00 CEST, which is 16:00 BST, 11:00 EDT and 08:00 PDT."

Remember when these forums were whining about the news fake outs and general lack of info back in March and April? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Anyways, what do you think will be shown? The E3 footage was the beginning route. Maybe this will be the first trial?

I'd like to think we'll learn something about the trials, or maybe more about Alola in general with this news. We're probably also gonna get more new pokemon or Alola forms, since just about all the information we've gotten so far has something to do with that.

We've been getting a lot of info these last couple months. I can't remember if it was like this with XY. I'm kinda glad about it though. Gives us something to talk about.

No as in like, this is a photo of fanart inserted into a fake corocoro scan. I'm afraid it's a fake; it was debunked quite a while back.
It's not a corocoro scan, it's a store display stand.

But it is fake, because these stands have displayed fan art before and the lugia artwork itself is old.. The crop even leaves out another fakemon just above the Lugia.
