All type Terrain [Stage 4: Playtesting]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Approved by G Luke

Welcome to All Type Terrain, a Pet Mod that seeks to give all types their own Terrain moves. That's not all - one lucky Pokémon that's considered C rank or below in the OU Viability Rankings will receive a Surge ability that automatically summons the terrain when they enter the battlefield. The Guardian Deities are all considered A Rank Pokémon in no small part due to their Terrain summoning abilities, so it's a good opportunity to give some forgotten Pokémon a good buff. Now, Grass, Electric, Fairy and Psychic already have their own Terrains, so we'll be deciding on the other 14 types.

Questions and Answers

What are the Stages?

Stage 1: Give every type 1 Terrain, and 1 summoning ability
Stage 2: Establish if any are either broken or lacklustre, and change accordingly
Stage 3: Create abilities for Pokemon (B ranked or lower) that interacts with the terrain in some way (like Grass Pelt and Surge Surfer)
Repeat from Stage 2
Stage 4: Play and test to see if any are broken / underwhelming and test accordingly.

Why do only C Rank or below Pokémon get the surge abilities?

To give forgotten Pokémon a chance to shine. Also, they could end up broken on stuff that's already a top tier threat.

Do all terrains have to power up their respective attacks?

Not at all - Misty Terrain doesn't.

What will the Flying-type Terrain effect?

Pokemon that are part Flying-type, have the ability Levitate or are holding an Air Balloon. All other Terrains only affect Pokémon on the ground.

Balance Clown - Mega Articuno in Megas For All
is a Forum Moderator Alumnus
Name: Chemical Terrain
Type: Poison
Message: A toxic pulse washed across the battlefield
Chemical Surge: Dragalge
Z Move: +SpA?
Nature Power: Sludge Bomb
Effect 1: Any grounded Pokemon that isn't Poison or Steel gets inflicted with badly Poisoned at the end of each turn
Effect 2: Powers up poison type moves by 50%
Attack: Every poison type excluding: Venusaur, Toxapex, Nihilego and Beedrill
Competitive Use: This just buffs poison types in both stall and offence. idk what I was going for if I'm honest

Name: Scree Terrain
Type: Rock
Message: A slew of gravel and stones appeared on the battlefield!
Scree Surge: Rampardos
Z Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Power Gem
Secret Power Animation: Rock Slide
Secret Power Effect: 50% chance to grant the target a tertiary Rock-typing; if the target already has a tertiary typing, replace it with Rock.
Effect 1: Rock-type moves gain 50% power
Effect 2: When a grounded Pokémon knows a Rock-type move, it resists the types which it has in the moveset two stages further. (For example, if Rampardos knew, say, Head Smash, Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Surf, it would, 2x resist Ground and Water, 4x resist Rock, and 8x resist Fire. Not bad, huh?)
Learned By: Golem, Golem-Alola, Omastar, Kabutops, Sudowoodo, Corsola, Tyranitar, Aggron, Cradily, Rampardos, Bastiodon, Rhyperior, Gigalith, Carracosta, Terrakion, Aurorus, Carbink, Diancie, Lycanroc-Midnight, Nihilego
Seed: Scree Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Attack upon consumption.
Competitive Use: Hoo boy. Rock-types have always had to deal with the frankly crap defensive nature of their typing, in much the same way that Ice-types have - purely because it's such a brilliant attacking type. However, this field allows you to ameliorate some of the deleterious effects of this, both for Rock-types and for Pokémon who might otherwise struggle with obnoxious weaknesses - Sunny Day, for instance, would render Scizor neutral against Fire-type moves. This is an excellent defensive terrain and one I think in keeping with Rock as a typing.

Name: Carcinous Terrain
Type: Dark
Message: A malignant energy sweeps the field
Carcinous Surge: Hydreigon
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Dark Pulse
Secret Power Animation: Night Daze
Secret Power Effect: 30% chance to lower the target's Accuracy and Evasion by 1 stage.
Effect 1: Dark-type moves gain 50% power.
Effect 2: Pokémon affected by major or minor status conditions, including Flinch, lose 1/12th of their max HP per turn. These stack.
Learned By: Muk-Alola, Umbreon, Shiftry, Sableye, Cacturne, Crawdaunt, Skuntank, Spiritomb, Drapion, Darkrai, Zoroark, Hydreigon, Malamar, Guzzlord
Seed: Carcinous Seed
Seed Effect: Speed +1
Competitive Use: Guts attackers beware, because status-spreading Dark-types are on the prowl. This terrain works massively in favour of paraflinchers, causing them to be able to stall out targets very efficiently. =]

Forgot about the seed thanks for the catch. Might as well make my noms:

Name: Spooky Terrain
Type: Ghost
Message: A spooky energy covered the battlefield
Spooky Surge: Chandelure
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Shadow Ball
Effect 1: Ghost type moves gain 50% power
Effect 2: When a grounded Pokemon uses a move with a secondary effect, that effect will always trigger, unless the target is immune or the attacker has Sheer Force
Attack: Gengar, Mimkyu, Marowak-A
Seed: Spooky Seed
Seed Effect: Speed +1
Competitive Use: Ghost-types often have to make do with weak STABs - this alleviates that issue. Chandelure effectively has a 110 BP STAB Will-O-Wisp in Fire Blast, which it can use to unleash obscenely powerful STAB Hexes.

Name: Plain Terrain
Type: Normal
Message: Blandness covered the battlefield
Plain Surge: Blissey
Z Move: +1 Defense
Nature Power: Tri Attack
Effect 1: Fighting-type moves have 50% power
Effect 2: Grounded Pokemon are immune to Taunt, Encore, Disable & Infatuation
Attack: Most Normal types, apart from Meloetta
Seed: Plain Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Makes Blissey a far more effective wall, as it essentially has no weaknesses while its Terrain is active, and it's now immune to the Taunt that would shut it down completely

Name: Stormy Terrain
Type: Flying
Message: Storm clouds spread over the battlefield
Stormy Surge: Archeops
Z Move: +1 Attack
Nature Power: Air Slash
Effect 1: Airborne Pokemon take no passive damage (they essentially have Magic Guard)
Effect 2: Flying type moves gain 50% power
Attack: Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres
Seed: Stormy Seed
Seed Effect: Speed +1
Competitive Use: Archeops can use this to be incredibly powerful, launching STAB Head Smashes without recoil and 165 power Acrobatics

Name: Helium Terrain
Type: Flying
Message: A floaty energy covered the battlefield.
Helium Surge: Drifblim
Z Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Air Slash
Secret Power: Gust animation. Chance to confuse the opponent.
Effect 1: Flying type moves gain 50% power
Effect 2: Electric and Ice attacks are reduced in damage by 50%
Attack: Flying-types in general, Weezing
Seed: Helium Seed
Seed Effect: Speed +1
Competitive Use: Flying-types and Levitators now don't have to worry about BoltBeam quite as much. Drifblim on its own can utilize a physical Acrobactics set, and can Baton Pass to teammates. (Well, until the inevitable Baton Pass ban in OU) This also fixes the problem of Air Slash being piss-ass weak (at least somewhat).

Name: Volcanic Terrain
Type: Fire
Message: Lava covered the entire battlefield
Volcanic Surge: Camerupt
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Lava Plume
Effect 1: Fire type moves gain 50% power
Effect 2: If applicable, burns any grounded at the end of the turn
Attack: Anything that's a fire type bar Rapidash, Flareon, Houndoom, and Chandelure
Competitive Use: Physical attackers are threatened with this Terrain. Personally, I don't think Chansey is bothered by getting burned and it makes it so that your Guts/Quick Feet users can get statused without holding a flame orb.
Seed: Volcanic Seed
Effect: Raises SpAttack by 1 upon use

Name: Icy Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: "The battlefield froze over!"
Icy Surge: screw Walrein Regice (#MakeRegisViableAgain)
Z-Move: Defense +1
Nature Power: Ice Beam
Effect 1: Powers up Ice-Type moves by 50%
Effect 2: Doubles the chance of a freeze occurring while it is active.
Attack: (Applies to all pre-evolutions bar Eevee) Abomasnow, Aurorus, Avalugg, Cyrogonal, Froslass, Glaceon, Glalie, Kyurem, Lapras, Alolan Ninetales, Vanilluxe, Walrein
Seed: Icy Seed
Seed Effect: Special Attack +1
Competitive Use: Ice types are more often than not overshadowed due to their poor defensive typing. Now, Icy Terrain gives them the power boost they need, as well as an extra freeze chance to help them in their cause (yay?). If it seems overpowered, freeze chances are generally quite low anyway (usually around 10%).

Name: Rocky Terrain
Type: Rock
Message: "The battlefield was covered in stones!"
Rocky Surge: Regirock
Z-Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Power Gem
Effect 1: Powers up Rock-Type moves by 50%
Effect 2: Has a Stealth Rock effect on both sides of the field (stacks with any Stealth Rocks already placed)
Attack: (Applies to all pre-evolutions) Aerodactyl, Aggron, Armaldo, Bastiodon, Carbink, Cradily, Crustle, Diancie, Alolan Golem, Golem, Gigalith, Lunatone, Solrock, Lycanroc-Midday, Lycanroc-Midnight, Probopass, Rhyperior, Tyranitar.
Seed: Rocky Seed
Seed Effect: Defense +1
Competitive Use: Stealth Rocks are great. What's the only thing better than Stealth Rock? Double Stealth Rock! Can you even imagine switching in your Pokemon only to take double the usual damage? Rip 4x rock weak Pokemon, they die instantly on the switch in. Rock power boost is nice but double Stealth Rocks is really where it's at.

Iron Terrain
Type: Steel
Message: "The battlefield became metallic!"
Iron Surge: Registeel
Z-Move: Defense +1
Nature Power: Flash Cannon
Effect 1: Powers up Steel-type moves by 50%
Effect 2: Increases the chances of secondary effects occurring by 50%.
Attack: (Applies to all pre-evolutions bar Piplup, Prinplup and Pineco) Aggron, Bronzong, Celesteela, Dialga, Empoleon, Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, Probopass, Skarmory, Steelix
Seed: Iron Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Steel is already a great type, and this terrain benefits it even more. Increasing the secondary effect chance can make some moves extremely deadly under the terrain.

For flavor purpouses, I think nature power should sumon Air Slash in stormy Terrain, and Tri Attack in plain Terrain
Name: Icy Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: "The battlefield froze over!"
Icy Surge: Walrein
Z-Move: Defense +1
Nature Power: Freeze-Dry
Effect 1: Powers up Ice-Type moves by 50%
Effect 2: Doubles the chance of a freeze occurring while it is active.
No idea what Attack means tbh cos I suck so I'll leave it out for now.
Seed: Icy Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1

Same thing here, exempt nature power should summon Ice Beam.

Kilgrave Attack means what Pokemon learns the move that summons your Terrain.

Have changed Plain Terrain and Stormy Terrain's Nature Power to Tri Attack and Air Slash, respectively. Great suggestions so far guys, keep them coming.

Message: Water swamped the entire battlefield
Aquatic Surge: Golisopod
Z Move: Special Defense +1
Nature Power: Surf
Effect 1: Water type moves gain 50% power
Effect 2: All grounded Pokémon are immune to burning. If a burnt Pokémon switches into the battlefield while this Terrain is active, the burn is healed at the end of the turn
Attack: Anything that's a Water type bar Bibarel, Surskit, Skrelp, and Volcanion
Competitive Use: Hate Will-O-Wisp? Here you go. This encourages physical attackers to come out and fight. Golisopod also is no longer limited to Emergency Exit.
Seed: Aquatic Seed
Effect: Raises SpDefense by 1 upon use

Name: Frosty Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: "The battlefield got completely frozen"
Metallic Surge: Regice
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Ice Beam
Secret Power: Ice Punch animation; 30% chance to freeze
Effect 1: Ice-type moves from grounded Pokémon gain 50% power
Effect 2: Grounded Pokémon cannot use Water-type moves except for Scald (since the water would freeze)
Learned by: WIP
Seed: Frosty Seed
Seed Effect: Defense +1
Competitive Use: Gives a reason for people to use Ice Spam teams, Pokémon like Kyurem-Black, Weavile and Mamoswine would be unstopabble under such terrain.

Type: Rock
Message: "The battlefield got covered with pointy Rocks"
Metallic Surge: Registeel

Effect 2: Grounded Pokémon have their accuracy increased by 33%

Only one Pokemon may get the Surge ability, so please choose between Klinklang and Bronzong

Edit: Thanks - later on, you can give Bronzong an ability that interacts with Metallic Terrain if you wish (a la Grass Pelt and Surge Surfer).

Name: Webbed Terrain
Type: Bug
Message: "The battlefield got covered in a silky web!"
Web Surge: Leavanny (replaces Leaf Guard)
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Signal Beam
Secret Power: Animation of Twineedle, chance of poisoning
Effect 1: Bug-type moves deal 50% more damage to grounded pokemon (does not matter whether the Bug-type pokemon is grounded or not)
Effect 2: Grounded, non-Bug type pokemon have their speed temporarily lowered by one stage
Learned by: Butterfree, Ariados, Fortress, Shuckle, Beautifly, Dustox, Masquerain, Kricketune, Wormadam, Mothim, Drapion, Yanmega, Leavanny, Scolipede, Accelgor, Volcarona, Genesect, Vivillon, Vikavolt, Araquanid
Seed: Webbed Seed
Seed Effect: Speed +1
Competitive Use: Provides a much needed power boost for bug types, as well as an a new method of speed control for bug types and other non grounded pokemon. Leavanny gains a small niche as the terrain lets it outspeed much of the metagame and either revenge kill with it's powerful bug STAB or set-up and sweep (If only it got U-Turn...). The terrain also provides benefits to slower flying types by giving them a leg up on grounded opponents, and anybody with a Webbed Seed can use it to partially negate the speed drop.

Name: Neutral Terrain
Type: Normal
Message: "The battlefield got all plain!"
Neutral Surge: Drampa (replaces Cloud Nine)
Nature Power: Hyper Voice
Secret Power: Animation of Covet, chance to attract.
Z-Move: +1 Attack
Effect 1: Normal-type moves always hit for normal effectiveness.
Effect 2: This battlefield disables the effects of all weather conditions. In addition, other terrains are unable to cancel out this terrain (still goes away in 5 turns).
Learned By: Raticate, Wigglytuff, Lickiliky, Chancey, Kangaskan, Tauros, Porygon, Dunsparce, Miltank, Swellow, Expoloud, Delcatty, Castform, Kecleon, Bibarel, Purugly, Arceus, Stoutland, Audino, Sawsbuck, Furfrou, Bewear, Oranguru, Komala, Drampa
Seed: Neutral Seed
Seed Effect: Accuracy +1
Competitive Use: Serves more as an anti-terrain, canceling and superseding all other terrains. Many of the users are pure-normal types that can now use the STAB's more freely, and Drampa serves as a wallbreaker/Trick Room sweeper that doesn't have to worry about enemy terrain or weather combos. The seed also provides a rarely-seen boost that many pokemon can make use of.

Name: Muddy Terrain
Type: Ground
Message: "The battlefield was flooded in thick mud!"
Muddy Surge: Rhyperior (replaces Lightningrod)
Nature Power: Earth Power
Secret Power: Animation of Bone Club, chance to lower Attack
Z-Move: +1 Special Defence
Effect 1: Electric-type moves no longer have any effect when used by grounded pokemon
Effect 2: Pokemon with a weakness to ground-type moves are unable to switch.
Learned By: Sandslash, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Dugtrio, Quagsire, Donphan, Swampert, Flygon, Whiscash, Claydol, Groudon, Gastrodon, Rhyperior, Hippowdon, Excadrill, Seismitoad, Stunfisk, Palossand
Seed Effect: Defence +1
Competitive Use: Used as a pseudo-trapping terrain, allowing ground types to prevent opponents from switching and hit them with their STAB, as well as a way to support Electric-weak teammates. Rhyperior becomes a risky counter to the many Ground-weak foes, as despite it's power, it has low special defence and gets trapped by it's own terrain.

Z moves only boost a stat by one stage, as it does with all other Terrain moves. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Electric_Terrain_(move)

Name: Energetic Terrain
Type: Fighting
Message: "The battlefield became energized!"
Energetic Surge: Toxicroak (if the recipient has to be on the viability rankings, then Breloom)
Z Move: Accuracy +1
Nature Power: Aura Sphere
Secret Power: Mach Punch animation, has a 30% chance to raise the user's Attack stat
Effect 1: The power of Fighting-type moves used by grounded Pokemon is boosted by 1.5x
Effect 2: All grounded Pokemon gain the effects of Focus Energy.
Attack: The Hitmons (& Tyrouge), Machoke & Machamp, Croagunk line, Meditite line, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Combusken & Blaziken, Gallade, Hawlucha, Crabrawler line, Hakamo-o & Kommo-o
Seed: Energetic Seed
Seed Effect: Attack +1
Competitive Use: Give Fighting-types even more offensive presence than they already have while boosting the moves of Fighting-types who prefer a weaker STAB move (i.e. Toxicroak's Drain Punch (or Vacuum Wave), Breloom's Mach Punch, Kommo-o's Sky Uppercut). Given to Toxicroak as I figured it was a well deserved buff as Toxicroak needed a niche that's more than a Fighting-type that can work on rain teams, as well as having move offensive presence from that 105 Attack or 85 Special Attack, Also, it gets Cross Chop ad Stone Edge, both moves with a high crit chance, allowing Toxicroak to break through walls with STAB Terrain-boosted crit Cross Chops.

Name: Seismic Terrain
Type: Ground
Message: "Seismic energy covered the battlefield!"
Seismic Surge: Hippowdon
Z Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Earth Power
Secret Power: Mud Bomb animation, 30% chance to lower accuracy by 1
Effect 1: The Special Defense of any Ground-types is boosted by 1.2x. This does stack with Sandstorm if the Pokemon is Rock/Ground.
Effect 2: Grounded Pokemon can hit Flying-types and Levitating Pokemon with Earthquake, Bulldoze, Earth Power, Mud-Slap, Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, Drill Run, and Magnitude. This damage is always neutral (i.e. Mothim and Archeops get hit neutrally by Diggersby's Earthquake in Seismic Terrain, even though Bug resists Ground and Rock is weak to Ground). Mold Breaker takes priority over Seismic Terrain (So Rotom-Wash is still hit super effectively by Excadrill's Earthquake).
Attack: Onix line, (Kanto) Sandshrew line, Diglett Line, Alolan Diglett line, (Kanto) Marowak, Rhyhorn line, Donphan, Larvitar line, Numel line, Groudon, Torterra, Wormadam-Sandy, Gabite & Garchomp, Hippowdon, Sandile line, Diggersby, Zygarde, Sandygast line, Mudbray line.
Seed: Seismic Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: You know what's annoying? Flying-types switching into Earthquake. You know how we fix that? Well, Gravity Landorus-T. But, you know a better way to fix that? Seismic Terrain! With Seismic Terrain, Ground-types not named Zygarde no longer have to worry about Flying-types and Levitating Pokemon switching into to most of their moves, allowing Ground-types to forgo certain coverage if they want to (i.e. Garchomp no longer needs (Z-) Fire Fang to hit Celesteela or Skarmory, certain Pokemon don't need Rock coverage to not get walled by Flying-types anymore, etc). Hippowdon gets it to give it a clear niche over the other Sand setter, Tyranitar, by letting it set up something else. Also, it gets Stealth Rock and reliable recovery, meaning that it can act as a nice lead with Terrain Extender.

Name: Generic Terrain
Type: Normal
Message: "The battlefield became overly generic!"
Generic Surge: Mega Audino
Z Move: Speed +1
Nature Power: Tri Attack
Secret Power: Tackle animation, 30% chance to paralyze the opponent
Effect 1: Anything that can be Defogged away that is currently on the field is ignored, but remains on the field. This includes hazards, screens, and Aurora Veil. Hazards, Screens, and Aurora Veil can all still be set up while the terrain is active, but they won't do anything until the terrain is gone.
Effect 2: Grounded Pokemon cannot have their stats lowered.
Attack: Rattata line, Igglybuff line, Kangaskhan, Tauros, Porygon line, Munchlax line, Happiny line, Sentret line ,Aipom line, Girafarig, Stantler, Dunsparce, Teddiursa line, Slakoth line, Skitty line, Spinda, Bidoof line, Buneary line, Glameow line, Patrat line, Audino, Minccino line, Deerling line, Bouffalant, Bunnelby line, Litleo line, Furfrou, Yungoos line, Komala, Type: Null line
Seed: Generic Seed
Seed Effect: Accuracy +1
Competitive Use: What happens when there's no deviation from the norm? What happens if nothing changes, if nothing can change? Well, this terrain answers just that. Generic Terrain limits the wild changes that can occur on the battlefield by ignoring something that can really change the course of a battle: Hazards. Hazards do lie on the terrain, but the Generic Terrain simply conceals them and acts like nothing happens, allowing hazard weak Pokemon, like Flying and Bug-types, to run free. Screens re ignored, too, as we can't have you changing your defenses around here. Also, to never deviate from the norm, once the terrain is set, grounded Pokemon can no longer have their stats lowered. Being weaker than normal isn't exactly normal, is it? Mega Audino gains the ability to set this terrain as it literally needed ANY ability that is useful is singles, greatly boosting it's viability. Generic Surge also allows Audino to act as a pseudo-hazard remover, which many Pokemon appreciate.

You know, there's still one thing left to consider in regards to terrains: Secret Power. It has a different effect and animation depending on the terrain (e.g., paralysis / Thunder Shock for Electric Terrain). I mean, nobody uses it, but that doesn't mean it should be neglected entirely.
Camouflage is also a thing, but that's a lot more obvious (simply the type of the terrain).

Anyway, here are my submissions:

Name: Frozen Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: The battlefield froze over!
Frozen Surge: Froslass
Z Move: +1 Special Attack
Nature Power: Ice Beam
Secret Power: Ice Shard animation; chance to freeze
Effect 1: Contact moves used by grounded, non-Ice-type Pokémon induce recoil equal to 1/4 damage dealt (this stacks with other recoil effects)
Effect 2: Earthquake/Magnitude/Bulldoze power is halved
Learned by: Ninetales-Alola, Jynx, Articuno, Glalie, Regice, Glaceon, Froslass, Vanilluxe, Kyurem, Aurorus
Seed: Frozen Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Special Defense
Competitive Use: Intended to be a sabotage terrain, primarily against physical attackers. Might not be most useful for its own type, considering Ice-types are generally frail (and therefore don't benefit much from weakened Earthquake or opposing contact moves inducing recoil), but the same can be said about Misty Terrain (what's a Dragon resistance to something immune to Dragon?). It does, however, provide handy support for bulky mons, particularly specially oriented ones. Even some physically oriented walls are relatively safe (e.g., Chansey only takes 25 HP recoil from Seismic Toss). Zygarde also benefits well in that it has high HP and its main STAB is non-contact and not a quake move.

Name: Frenetic Terrain
Type: Fighting
Message: The battlefield became intense!
Frenetic Surge: Passimian
Z Move: +1 Speed
Nature Power: Aura Sphere
Secret Power: Vital Throw animation; chance to reduce target's Defense by 1
Effect 1: 50% boost to Fighting-type attacks
Effect 2: Grounded Pokémon are prevented from using non-attacking moves
Learned by: Machamp, Hitmons, Hariyama, Infernape, Throh, Sawk, Crabominable, Passimian
Seed: Frenetic Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Attack
Competitive Use: Passimian is not very viable as is, so why not give it an actual niche? If it runs Frenetic Seed, it gets an effective Choice Band boost on the first switch-in, letting it hit as hard as it can with Close Combat and Iron Head (or it could just run Choice Scarf to patch up its Speed). Along with the boost, the terrain also works as an effective Taunt, toying with stall and setup-oriented attackers.

Name: Larva Terrain
Type: Bug
Message: A swarm of larvae covered the battlefield!
Larva Surge: Venomoth
Z Move: +1 Special Defense
Nature Power: Bug Buzz
Secret Power: Lunge animation; chance to confuse
Effect 1: 50% boost to Bug-type attacks
Effect 2: Grounded, non-Bug-type Pokémon lose 1/16 HP per turn
Learned by: Venomoth, Wormadam, Volcarona
Seed: Larva Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Defense
Competitive Use: It was difficult to come up with a user of the Surge; Volcarona would have been my primary choice because the name of its pre-evolution is based on larvae, but sadly Volcarona is freaking A-rank. Heck, even distribution for the move was hard to come up with. But anyway, the field itself augments the sweeping potential of Bug-types by powering up their STAB and neutering Leftovers and Sash/Sturdy.

Name: Mystic Terrain
Type: Dragon
Message: A mythical aura surrounded the battlefield!
Mystic Surge: Druddigon
Z Move: +1 Special Attack
Nature Power: Dragon Pulse
Secret Power: Dragon Breath animation; chance to reduce target's Defense by 1
Effect 1: 50% boost to Dragon-type attacks
Effect 2: Grounded Pokémon's moves bypass Abilities
Learned by: Kingdra, Garchomp, Haxorus, Druddigon, Kyurem, Goodra, Zygarde, Turtonator, Drampa, Kommo-o, Guzzlord
Seed: Mystic Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Defense
Competitive Use: With Fairy-types and Misty Terrain roaming around, Dragons have become a fair bit more obscure as of late. This terrain turns them into powerhouses that don't have to worry about Levitate (if they have Earthquake), Flash Fire (if they run Fire coverage), Magic Bounce (if they use Stealth Rock or some other status move), Disguise, Unaware, or anything like that. Druddigon in particular benefits as if it had Mold Breaker (which it does normally), with the added bonus of stronger Dragon Claw (because that's its most reliable STAB). Supports MegaZard-X nicely by strengthening its Dragon Claw and making Heatran less of a problem.

I don't post much on Smogon, mostly just watch, but I've already had some terrain ideas and decided to share.
Also, if someone has already used a name, can I use it or not? I had a Muddy terrain idea too, though mine is probably worse.
Name: Cursed Terrain
Type: Ghost
Message: A sinister aura surrounded the battlefield!
Cursed Surge: Chandelure (instead of Flame Body)
Z Move: Speed +1
Nature Power: Shadow Ball
Secret Power: Shadow Sneak animation; chance to flinch the target
Effect 1: Ghost type moves used by grounded Pokemon gain 50% power
Effect 2: Grouded Non-Ghost Pokemon have their speed reduced by 33% (equivalent for 1 stage); grounded Ghost Pokemon have their HP reduced by 1/8 each turn (I know that's essentialy 2 effects, but I wanted to make it like a Curse move. if that's considered cheating, sorry, will edit)
Attack: Banette, Froslass, Gengar, Jellicent, Marowak-A, Mimikyu
Seed: Cursed Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Chandelure outspeeds most non-ghost and non-flying pokemon and becomes a powerful sweeper, but at a cost of wearing them down. It also acts as a pseudo sticky web for ghost-type, flying-type and levitate teammates.

Name: Flood Terrain
Type: Water
Message: The battlefield got flooded with a stream of water!
Flood Surge: Swampert (onstead of Damp)
Z Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Hydro Pump
Secret Power: Water Pulse animation; chance to lower target's Attack 1 stage
Effect 1: Electric type moves used by grounded Pokemon have 50% recoil damage
Effect 2: Grouded Pokemon cannot be burned
Attack: Blastoise, Clawitzer, Goodra, Gyarados, Jellicent, Kingdra, Octillery, Simipour, Volcanion, Wailord, Wishiwashi
Seed: Flood Seed
Seed Effect: Defense +1
Competitive Use: I didn't want to boost Water-type moves since stacking this with Rain would be absolute hell, so I came up with support for physical attackers, Swampert can also use it pre-mega (I know it's only released in a month). I couldn't come up with a better ability abuser, since they are either B rank (Gyarados), inflict burn themselves (Volcanion) or don't fit flavorwise. Swampert can also support its teammates against electric move users, wearing them down (after Swampert switches, I mean, since it's immune)

Name: Virtual Terrain
Type: Normal
Message: The battlefield turned into virtual reality!
Virtual Surge: Porygon2 (instead of Analytic)
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Tri Attack
Secret Power: default
Effect 1: Grounded Pokemon's moves of their first type gain 50% power
Effect 2: If a grounded Pokemon goes second, the chance of a move having a secondary effect is doubled (this is to prevent flinch spam)
Attack: Beheeyem, Magearna, Magnezone, Metagross, Silvally
Seed: Virtual Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Since Normal type is usually seen as a lack of type, I wanted to make this terrain universal. It helps most offensive Pokemon, and Porygon2 acts as a supporter here. It also apreciates 60% Discharge paralysis chance, further helping its teammates.

Name: Toxic Terrain
Type: Poison
Message: Toxic waste flooded the battlefield!
Virtual Surge: Muk-Alola (instead of Power of Alchemy)
Z Move: Special Defense +1
Nature Power: Sludge Wave
Secret Power: Sludge Bomb animation; chance to badly poison the target
Effect 1: Poison type moves used by grounded Pokemon gain 50% power.
Effect 2: Moves, that inflict Poison status, inflict Toxic Poison status on grounded Pokemon.
Attack: Garbodor, Goodra, Muk, Salazzle, Swalot
Seed: Toxic Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Offensive buff for Poison types, and Muk-A becomes a powerful bulky attacker, much like Bulu. Also good with Toxic Spikes support, since you only need 1 layer to inflict toxic.

Edit: new ideas

Name: Cloudy Terrain
Type: Flying
Message: Foggy clouds descended upon the battlefield!
Virtual Surge: Tornadus-Incarnate (as second ability)
Z Move: Special Attack +1
Nature Power: Air slash
Secret Power: Gust animation; chance to chance to lower target's Speed 1 stage
Effect 1: Electric type moves used against airborne Pokemon have their power halved (inspired by fog in Mystery Dungeon)
Effect 2: Airborne Pokemon can't have their stats lowered (if not self-inflicted)
Attack: Altaria, Articuno, Landorus, Mantine, Swanna, Thundurus, Tornadus
Seed: Cloudy Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: Defensive buff for Flying types, allowing them to stand against Electrics; they also won't fear Intimidate, Memento/Parting shot or random stat drops

I'm working on ideas for as many terrains as I can. I'll edit this post if I have any more.
Name: Murky Terrain
Type: Dark
Message: The battlefield was shrouded in darkness!
Murky Surge: Spiritomb
Z-move: Boosts defense 1 stage (Works because z-effect happens first)
Nature Power: Dark Pulse
Secret Power: Dark Pulse animation, 30% chance to inflict torment on opponent.
Effect 1: Grounded Pokemon's psychic moves are weakened by 50%
Effect 2: Grounded Pokemon are unable to raise or lower their stats.
Attack: Spiritomb, Murkrow, Honchkrow, Stunky, Skuntank, Vullaby, Mandibuzz, Absol, Purloin, Liepard, Zorua, Zoroark, Deino, Zweilous, Hydreigon, Inkay, Malamar
Seed: Murky Seed
Seed Effect: Resets all stat changes on field to zero. (Can't raise a stat because the terrain prevents that)
Competitive Use: Bulky Pokemon really benefit from this terrain as it creates a pseudo-unaware effect to stop setup sweepers in their tracks, and combos well with the Murky Seed or Haze to reset the opponent's stats. It also helps offensive teams by helping Fighting and Poison types beat Psychics, and negates Sticky Web and Intimidate.
Name: Scorching Terrain
Type: Fire
Message: The battlefield was engulfed in flames!
Scorching Surge: Pyroar
Z-move: Boosts special attack one stage.
Nature Power: Lava Plume
Secret Power: Eruption animation, 30% chance to burn opponent.
Effect 1: Grounded Pokemon have their fire moves strengthened by 50%.
Effect 2: Grounded/Non-fire type Pokemon take 1/8 of their max HP in damage between each turn.
Attack: Litleo, Pyroar, Growlithe, Arcanine, Slugma, Magcargo, Ponyta, Rapidash, Magby, Magmar, Magmortar, Numel, Camerupt, Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, Heatmor, Turtonator
Seed: Scorching Seed
Seed Effect: Raises Special Attack one stage.
Competitive Use: Hyper offensive teams will definitely benefit from this terrain in order to break sashes/sturdy and power up fire moves. Bulkier teams can make use of it as well, as the terrain does provide chip damage, and while there aren't many bulky fire types, Pokemon such as Rotom-Heat, Primal Groudon, and Silvally-Fire can benefit from this without taking damage.
Name: Gusty Terrain
Type: Flying
Message: The battlefield was filled with strong gales!
Gusty Surge: Altaria
Z-move: Boosts speed by one stage.
Nature Power: Air Slash
Secret Power: Hurricane animation, 30% chance to hurl target into the air. (Like Telekinesis)
Effect 1: Flying moves are strengthened by 50%.
Effect 2: Speed modifiers affecting any Pokemon are negated. Includes speed stat changes, Tailwind, Trick Room, Choice Scarf, speed boosting abilities, paralysis' speed reduction, Lagging Tail, Custap Berry, Quash, and After You. Does not ignore priority.
Attack: Swablu, Altaria, Drifloon, Drifblim, Togekiss, Noibat, Noivern, Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot, Dragonite, Spearow, Fearow, Hoppip, Skiploom, Jumpluff, Tropius, Ducklett, Swanna
Seed: Gusty Seed
Seed Effect: Boosts speed by one stage.
Competitive Use: This terrain has huge potential for fast teams that don't want their speed to amount to nothing due to Tailwind or Trick Room. Major beneficiaries include Pheromosa, Staraptor, and Alakazam. Note that this terrain affects even non-grounded Pokemon due to it being a flying-type terrain.
Name: Barren Terrain
Type: Ground
Message: The battlefield has reverted to pure earth!
Barren Surge: Sandslash-Regular
Z-move: Boosts attack by one stage.
Nature Power: Earth Power
Secret Power: Earthquake animation, 30% chance to transform the target into the ground type.
Effect 1: All grounded Pokemon's grass moves are weakened by 50%.
Effect 2: Grounded non-ground type Pokemon cannot be missed by attacks, excluding OHKO moves.
Attack: Sandshrew-Regular, Sandslash-Regular, Hippopotas, Hippowdon, Sandyghast, Palossand, Diglett (Both), Dugtrio (Both), Cubone, Marowak, Trapinch, Vibrava, Flygon, Sandile, Krokorok, Krookodile, Golett, Golurk
Seed: Barren Seed
Seed Effect: Boosts defense one stage.
Competitive Use: This terrain allows many otherwise unviable moves, such as Zap Cannon and Dynamic Punch, to be used to great effect. Powerful moves can be used with less worry about accuracy, a great asset to offensive teams. Ironically enough, flying types may benefit the most, being able to fire off unmissable Hurricanes without fear of always being hit themselves.
Name: Reflective Terrain
Type: Steel
Message: The battlefield gained a reflective coating!
Reflective Surge: Bastiodon
Z-move: Boosts defense one stage.
Nature Power: Flash Cannon
Secret Power: Mirror Shot animation, 30% chance to lower opponent's accuracy by one.
Effect 1: Strengthens grounded Pokemon's steel type moves by 50%.
Effect 2: Special attacks are reflected back at the user for 30% damage.
Attack: Bronzor, Bronzong, Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Togedemaru, Shieldon, Bastiodon, Klink, Klang, Klinklang, Klefki, Beldum, Metang, Metagross
Seed: Reflective Seed
Seed Effect: Boosts defense by one stage.
Competitive Use: Reflective Terrain is used mainly by stalling teams for extra chip damage, made stronger with reliable recovery. However, most any team weak to special attacks can use it to prepare for a revenge kill.

Name: Barren Terrain
Type: Ground
Message: The battlefield has reverted to pure earth!
Barren Surge: Sandslash-Regular
Z-move: Boosts attack by one stage.
Nature Power: Earthquake
Secret Power: Earthquake animation, 30% chance to transform the target into the ground type.
Effect 1: All grounded Pokemon's grass moves are weakened by 50%.
Effect 2: Grounded non-ground type Pokemon cannot be missed by attacks, excluding OHKO moves.
Attack: Sandshrew-Regular, Sandslash-Regular, Hippopotas, Hippowdon, Sandyghast, Palossand

For flavor, change nature power from earthquake to earth power. This is because starting from XY, Nature Power always summons a special move and no physical moves.
Name: Rocky Terrain
Type: Rock
Message: "The battlefield was covered in stones!"
Rocky Surge: Regirock
Z-Move: Attack +1
Nature Power: Rock Slide

Nature Power: Iron Head
Effect 1: Powers up Steel-type moves by 50%
Effect 2: Halves the chances of your secondary effects happening when you attack an opponent, but doubles the chances of effects that happen to you.(Say if your opponent used flamethrower. That would usually have a 10% chance of burning you but under Iron Terrain it has a 5% chance. However, if you used Ancient Power, it would have a 20% chance instead of a 10% chance to boost all of your stats. This works for both you and your opponent. It's a special kind of metal, alright?)
Attack: (Applies to all pre-evolutions bar Piplup, Prinplup and Pineco) Aggron, Bronzong, Celesteela, Dialga, Empoleon, Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, Probopass, Skarmory, Steelix
Seed: Iron Seed
Seed Effect: Special Defense +1
Competitive Use: This one is an example of a double edged sword. While Iron Terrain makes it easier to boost your own stats, it makes it more difficult to lower your opponents. Steel is already a great typing anyway, but a little surprise with Iron Terrain could potentially screw some people over.
Same thing here, except replace rock slide and iron head with power gem and flash cannon respectively.
(still a WIP, continuing to fix some issues and add or edit some ideas)

Name: Glassy Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: A plethora of mysterious and reflective mirrors cover the battlefield.
Glassy Surge: Glaceon
Z Move: Speed +1
Nature Power: Blizzard
Secret Power: don't have an idea yet
Effect 1: When attacks from opposing Pokemon miss they hit a glass and shatter it, dealing 50% recoil.
Effect 2: All Ice-Typed attacks hit Steel-Types for supereffective damage.
Attack: Froslass, Glaceon, Jynx, Articuno
Seed: Reflective Seed
Seed Effect: Special Attack +1
Competitive Use: Encourages frustratingly haxy and gamebreaking strategies including hail + snow cloak + brightpowder in order to defeat the opposing team simply from recoil or to permit pokemon such as Jynx to setup multiple calm minds and then sweep with the speed and special attack boosts. Also alleviates the pressure Steel-Typed pokemon put on pretty much every Ice-Type pokemon by allowing all Ice-Types to hit Steel for supereffective damage and also gives some special ones speed and special attack boosts.
For flavor as well, make nature power sumon ice Beam instead of blizzard.

Name: Frozen Terrain
Type: Ice
Message: "The battlefield became coated in ice!"
Icy Surge: Abomasnow
Z Move: +1 Speed
Nature Power: Ice Beam
Effect 1: Fire- and Water-type attacks only have 50% of their power
Effect 2: Every grounded non-Ice Pokémon has a 10% to be frozen at the end of each turn. Water-type Pokémon have a 20% chance. Fire-type Pokémon are immune to this effect
Attack: Glalie, Regice, Froslass, Glaceon, Vanilluxe, Ninetales-A, Articuno, Mamoswine, Walrein, Dewgong, Lapras, Abomasnow, Kyurem, Aurorus
Seed: Frozen Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Speed
Competitive Use: Ice is a decently strong offensive type, but Water- and Fire-types have always been an issue, but now they're no longer that much threatening. Water-types in particular suffer from the Ice Age this Terrains brings, as they deal less damage with their STAB and risk being frozen for each turn they stay on the field. Abomasnow has been chosen as wielder of the Surge, since it can Mega Evolve immediately and become a incredible threat in Hail + this Terrain.

Name: Tricky Terrain
Type: Dark
Message: "The battlefield became disorienting!"
Tricky Surge: Liepard
Z Move: Resets the user's stat changes
Nature Power: Dark Pulse
Effect 1: Dark-type moves are powered up by 50%
Effect 2: For grounded Pokémon, all stat changes are reverted, including self-inflicted stat changes (also known as Contrary Terrain)
Attack: Umbreon, Absol, Darkrai, Liepard, Zoroark, Honchkrow, Weavile, Scrafty, Bisharp, Mandibuzz, Malamar, Shiftry, Cacturne, Crawdaunt, Skunktank, Spiritomb, Drapion, Krookodile
Seed: Tricky Seed
Seed Effect: Inverts stat changes of every Pokémon on the field
Competitive Use: Everyone knows how Contrary can turn a mediocre Pokémon into a fearsome beast (hello Serperior). Why not apply this effect to every Pokémon in battle ? This might seem OP at first, but two factors make this Terrain a double-edged sword : the fact that Liepard, the main setter, cannot abuse it itself (apart from maybe Swagger), and the fact that it's as easy for the opponent to take advantage of it as it is for you. However, it still powers up Knock Off and Sucker Punch to scary levels and can help other Pokémon, not necessarily Dark-types, snowball super easily.

Name: Seabed Terrain
Type: Water
Message: "A tidal wave engulfed the battlefield!"
Tidal Surge: Wailord
Z Move: +1 Defense
Nature Power: Surf
Effect 1: The battlefield is considered as in rain and the weather cannot change while this Terrain is active.
Effect 2: Fire- and Flying-type attacks have their power reduced by 50%. This also applies to non-grounded Pokémon.
Attack: Every Water-type available living in the sea + Vaporeon + Primarina
Seed: Algae Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Special Defense
Competitive Use: It's like rain, but impossible to overwrite with weather. While the Terrain setter is mediocre (but still fitting flavor-wise), this can be of great help for rain teams, which are often bothered by stray Sun or Sand setters, ruining a sweep. Ludicolo in particular benefits from the situation, as it now resists Fire and is neutral to Flying. The Terrain seemed a bit underwhelming, so I decided to apply it to non-grounded Pokémon as well (you ARE underwater, after all)

Name: Chakra Terrain
Type: Fighting
Message: "Strong energy lines run across the battlefield!"
Chakra Surge: Mienshao
Z Move: +1 Attack
Nature Power: Aura Sphere
Effect 1: Fighting-type attacks have infinite accuracy when used by grounded Pokémon
Effect 2: Psychic-type attacks used by grounded Pokémon bypass immunities
Attack: Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Hitmontop, Hariyama, Throh, Sawk, Mienshao, Medicham, Lucario, Blaziken, Infernape, Gallade, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldeo, Kommo-o
Seed: Chakra Seed
Seed Effect: Crit rate+2
Competitive Use: Even if this Terrain was more written considering flavor than actual competitive use, it gives Mienshao a small niche in infinite accuracy HJK. Giving that it also has U-Turn, it can pivot out to a teammate to abuse th Terrain. Psychic-types make for great partners since they can spam their STAB much more freely. In particular, Medicham, Gallade and their respective Mega Evolution are good abusers.

Name: Terror Terrain
Type: Ghost
Message: "The battlefield became cloaked in darkness!"
Terror Surge: Cofagrigus
Z Move: +1 Defense
Nature Power: Shadow Ball
Effect 1: Ghost- and Dark-type attacks are powered up by 30%
Effect 2: Every attack without a secondary effect used by a grounded Pokémon now has a 10% chance to flinch
Attack: Banette, Mismagius, Dusknoir, Cofagrigus, Gengar, Spiritomb, Chandelure, Gourgeist, Trevenant, Palossand, A-Marowak, Sableye, Jellicent
Seed: Terror Seed
Seed Effect: Lowers Attack and Special Attack of one foe by one stage each
Competitive Use: Ghost are known for lacking strong offensive options, with the standard attack, Shadow Ball, sitting at a good-but-not-great 80 BP. Terror Terrain remedies to this fact, and effectively boosts the power of any Ghost-type attack. Plus, to add a bit of RNG roulette to the game, it makes attacks without a secondary effect have a chance to flinch, getting clutch turns in the match. Be wary though, as Dark-type attacks are powered up too, and no Ghost likes being Pursuited.
