I think vanilla Stakataka is probably one of the better choices for it tbh. I don't think any set that doesn't have Trick Room on it will work outside a full Trick Room team or semi-Trick Room team, aka not nearly as well, while any set that has Gyro Ball + Trick Room will play approx. as good as any other, and its just a matter of judging whether Levitate or SD or a specific coverage move or w/e is most valuable to you. However defensively Stak just... isn't going to work. It's double weak to two of the most common types in the meta and weak to a third very common type. It has the bulk to set up in the face of attacks but not enough to function as a good defensive mon. Thanks haha, anyways the reason i did not mention it cause i had no idea the rocks got gyro ball. This will probably be better due to screwing over offense with tr while still keeping levitate and a strong 100% acc stab
Edit: to be fair its not that lackluster, z head smash is very powerful and has the niche of hitting slow tanks/walls on balance infinitely harder than gyro
Im not sure about this staka set, isnt it just like regular stakataka? The only difference is it loses beast boost (which loses its snowballing capabilities) and improving its matchup vs balance (swords dance gyros gonna hurt). Since its coverage doesnt change much u might as well just run normal stakataka since i believe beast boost is the superior ability
Anyway I've been spamming sets half the day in the OM room so I thought I'd share them here. Including a Stakataka set without Trick Room... what am I a hypocrit? (I may have built a full Trick Room team I never intend to use)
Darumaka (Stakataka) @ Rockium Z
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Belly Drum
- Gyro Ball
- Rock Slide
- Hammer Arm
This set amused me. I don't think its the best set, esp since the one time set up is meh, especially since you'll have very minimal Trick Room time after setting, switching, and Belly Drumming (2 turns unless my mental math is wrong... why is Trick Room so short ;-;). But damn will that hit hard.
+6 252+ Atk Hustle Stakataka Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: 1623-1909 (475.9 - 559.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Hustle Stakataka Continental Crush (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mew: 1513-1782 (443.6 - 522.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
just to give you an idea.
Mew (Ampharos) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick Room
- Nasty Plot
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunderbolt
Another Trick Room attacker, this is intended to play sorta like Stak in standard. Moldy is really nice for it because it helps you get past Unaware walls, as well as stuff like... Emolga inheriting Celesteela ig? Mew has a really wide movepool so there are a ton of other options but I think what I have listed is best for this set.
Victini (Marowak-Alola) @ Thick Club
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike
V-Create is strong, Marowak is strong, but slow. Victini learns Trick Room. V-Create lowers speed. NEXT.
Staraptor (Buzzwole) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Roost
- Close Combat
- Toxic
Buzzwole @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Cross Chop
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide
Two very different sets. One abuses Buzzwoles absurd bulk with Intimidate + Pivoting, the other is basically a meme but honestly Shell Smash is so good on like everything why is it legal.
Politoed (Swampert) @ Swampertite
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Belly Drum
Hawlucha (Terrakion) @ Lum Berry / Rockium Z
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- High Jump Kick / Drain Punch
- Taunt
Stallbreaker. Taunt + Setup. Nothing original. I've yet to try it against any actual stall so I have some concerns about its ability to take on things like Suicune without getting Burnt.
Kricketune (Aerodactyl) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD
- Taunt
- Sticky Web
- Aerial Ace
- Endeavor
Shuckle (Aerodactyl) @ Mental Herb
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Sticky Web
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake / Stealth Rock
- Shell Smash / Encore
2.5 suicide lead Aerodactyl sets. The first uses the only thing to get Taunt + Sticky Web and basically works with the limited available movepool from there. Defenses are minimized to activate Sash for Endeavor.
The second set(s) set webs against anything without Magic Bounce or faster than 130 base multihit thanks to Sturdy + Mental Herb, and then either also sets Rock and disrupts with Encore or Shell Smashes and attempts to poke an early-game hole in the opposing team. If it manages to avoid any damage and rocks aren't up / you have a Healing Wisher you could also save it for a lategame sweep too.
Victini (Charizard) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- V-create
- Blue Flare
- Solar Beam
- Glaciate
Anyone who's played STABmons can tell you how destructive this thing is. V-Create is incredibly high powered in sun even with Zard-Y's meh attack stat, and slaughters spd mons. Blue Flare doesn't have the negative side effect of V-Create and operates off of Zard-Y's higher attacking stat. Solarbeam is standard coverage for Zard-Y and Glaciate hits Dragons who think they can switch in. Overall a very deadly wallbreaker.
Tapu Lele (Latios) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball / Moonblast
- Trick / Moonblast
Fairly typical Tapu Lele style scarfer. It appreciates the speed > lele, but hates losing its second stab. There are probably other pokemon that do this ~as well, but Latios seems like one of the best. Not particularly creative.
Illumise (Tapu Koko) @ Choice Band
Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Play Rough
- Thunder Punch
- U-turn
- Ice Punch
Every single Tinted Lens mon has a trash physical movepool except for this cute little bug.
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
Woops this is the set I stole from farther up in the thread lol jk cool set tho I wouldn't run Grassium personally but I guess it's cool for opposing weather setters. Also Shell Smash op.
EDIT: one or two of these sets may have been posted already :3
EDIT2: Here's the beginning of a sample set compendium I started to put together with some of the best-looking sets from the thread. It's nowhere near done, and since we don't have a ladder atm it probably won't be done soon, but I thought it would be cool to put together a bunch of the sets people have been posting, since there are a LOT in this thread. (Bolded because tbh this is the most important part of this post)
EDIT3: srsly stop saying "nice set" for the things in that link most of them aren't my sets (like almost all).
