the next game after D/P

What I wouldnt mind seeing is a possible MMORPG [massively multiplayer online role playin game; what pokemon is anyway] for the Wii. Keep the turn based system, just... make it big and 3D. Nintendo is probably already considering this, and could've been experimenting with all this Stadium-games... It'd be awesome. And, granted it wouldnt be hand-held, it'd still be awesome. As long as it didnt have some crappy/cheesy storyline..

As for hand-helds, I wanna see a GSC remake, too. Hopefully it'll come out next year if they are planning something like that. And does anyone else remember reading somewhere that Nintendo already had plans in the works for their next portable system? Cause if that's the case, our next-gen game could be coming sooner than expected.. I coulda sworn I remembered hearing something about it maybe earlier this year, possibly last year.. I dunno.

if pokemon was moved to the wii, ds sales would go down the shitter it will never ever ever happen.

it would change pokemon way to drastically. you dont need a console for it, thats what helps make it kick ass.
in my opinion...

anyway, the new game deff needs a fishing rod that you dont have to hit the a button to real....thats sooooooooo anoying

A Pokemon MMORPG would be awesome...if they got everything just right. There's a lot of potential obstacles in the way IMO. Can Nintendo afford to maintain the servers for a MMORPG without charging for online play? Even if they can afford it, will they keep online play free? Will they be able to keep things fresh for the hardcore players who live and breathe Pokemon? Are they going to make legendaries truly rare?

And I doubt Nintendo will abandon the DS anytime soon. It's selling like hotcakes (the handheld has sold over 6 million in the U.S. already this year, with another couple weeks to go in the holiday season). A redesign is probably quite likely though, given Nintendo's track record.

Pokemon games sell a lot but there is definitely more to the DS game library than just Pokemon.

Yeah, "moving" Pokemon to Wii would not negatively impact DS sales. DS is pretty much entrenched at this point; it would be almost impossible to stop the system from selling.

That's assuming your false dilemma is correct, which it isn't... they don't have to stop continuing Pokemon as a handheld franchise if they also bring a true adventure game to Wii. An MMORPG wouldn't be the same game as a traditional handheld adventure, and they could easily create important ways for it to interact with the handheld versions that would increase sales of both.

That said, if a Pokemon MMORPG did exist on Wii, I wouldn't play it. There's a limit to how much I want my soul to be consumed by video games, and it's bad enough with Pokemon and Super Smash Bros. as it already is.

A Pokemon MMORPG would have so many freaking cheaters and hackers that it would make Pokemon boring because there's hardly any challenge to it, people who already got a bunch of pokemon would give them to you for anything most of the time like in Diablo 2's Free Server. Though it would be cool if they made one that had all the continents in it (except side ones like in pokemon ranger because thats kind of stupid). You get to like customize your character and pick which continent and town you wanna start in and you have like a bunch of people that all have the same mom. Pokemon World or something like that would be a good name. O and you get to pick your own starter pokemon from all the generations and probably pick starter pokemon like growlithe or something. Also it's like really hard to get legendarys now like you have to enter in a 100 match contest and the winner gets a legendary pokemon every week or month of something. But still that pokemon game would probably be ruined due to all the hackers (action replay or something like that). If they do make a pokemon game like that (Pokemon World) they should have like something to block all hacked pokemon and stuff. Also encounter pokemon that can roam free not on grass or something would be pretty cool. If they do make a game like that it would probably be the last pokemon game unless they continue to update it like WoW (World of Warcraft not Will-o-Wisp). That would probably mean the end of the handheld games unless they make a version that could still be online with the console version or just have handheld exclusive. Pokemon is famous obviously for handheld so I wouldn't mind a handheld exclusive or console and handheld.

Further, though, it would give Nintendo the excuse of tying MMO expansions into new handheld generations.

Hacking isn't that horrible in most of the MMOs. You'd have to understand, its not like a traditional game where you can do those kinds of things. The only thing that your Wii (or computer) does when you play an MMO is process the visual data being transmitted from the SERVER. The only way you would be able to hack a MMO of any type would be to directly hack the server and subdjegate it for personal benefit. You're thinking hacking for an MMO is anywhere close to as easy as plugging in a Action Replay and just doing it. Its not.

A Special edition of D/P first. Like Red/Blue had Yellow, Gold and Silver had Crystal and next D/P will get a 3rd game to the series.

After that I would start looking at something like a G/S/C remake, only after the 3rd game for D/P.

The hacking part isn't really the problem, I meant like people already completing the game and catching all the pokemon and leveling them to 100 and giving it to a bunch of people making the game unchallenging. Like they give free weapons that are godly in Diablo 2's Free Server. Not that it will be horrible that they give away stuff but I'm just worried since pokemon is a kids game they might make it too easy for people to complete the game and get all the pokemon.

A fix for that would be to disallow people from giving Pokémon to people who haven't reached a certain point or place on the ladder. At least..high level/rare ones anyways.

Sorry, but a pokemon MMORPG will not be made by Game Freak and here's why:

Nintendo purposely creates games with only one land. Just think about it, hardcore pokemon fans like us will buy the game even if it only has one world.
This way, they can make many games and spread out the release dates so that they make a large, consistent profit. A Pokemon MMORPG would be the ultimate pokemon game, and then there would be no more handheld games. The only way for them to make more money would to adopt a World of Warcraft-like system where you have to buy the game and pay to play it online. With Shoddybattle and soon enough Competitor being online Pokemon simulators, why bother paying for the glitchy MMORPG that Nintendo would make?

I believe it would be cool if they did have a MMORPG, but i know that they wouldn't. The next games would probably be Johto remakes, followed up by a third installment centered around Giratina. Johto remakes, or at least a return-to Johto option in the third installment, would make sense. The conspicuous Jasmine on the beach, new Johto pokemon evolutions, and many other signs point towards a return to Johto.

People would still pay to play it on-line, as long as its balanced correctly.

You could try doing that now but if you give a lvl 100 to someone with a fresh game they crash and burn cause the pokemon refuse to listen. The badges already serve as a level equiilizer and they can use the number over badges to limit P2P play so that people with tremendously power pokes don't crush the small fry's.

So basicaly everything I already said...

Here is what I would want in the next game (whether it is a Johto remake, or the next "Sinnoh" game)...

1) Return of the IV man (as someone else has said). The new characteristics are good, but they aren't as direct as the IV man.

2) A hidden power man (or woman). Why not? Gamefreak started it off with IV's, why not hidden power? The guy would have 2 phrases. The first one would be something relating to the type, and the second one would be something relating to the power. For example...

"Your Gengar has the heart of a warrior! In addition, it's ability seems to be wonderfully outstanding!

Basically, the hidden power guy is saying that Gengar's hidden power is 70, and that the type is fighting. Here is another example...

"Your Weezing often has it's head in the clouds! In addition, it's ability seems to be impressive!

Weezing has HP flying with a base power between 40-50.

Something like that, you get the picture?

3) Special XD/Colloseum move tutors. That way, it would be easier to get certain moves (like Surf on the Pikachu family).

4) Improved GTS. It would be nice if you could see the nature and movesets of the pokemon you want so that you don't trade away a good pokemon for something with a shitty movepool and nature. It would also be nice if you could trade items without pokemon. Like an item exchange or something.

5) A new "Battle Frontier".

6) An easier way to control your breeding rather then just "hoping" things turn out right. As Yoda said, it would be nice if you get "some" control over what IV's you pass down rather then it being too random based.

Here is what I would want in the next game (whether it is a Johto remake, or the next "Sinnoh" game)...

1) Return of the IV man (as someone else has said). The new characteristics are good, but they aren't as direct as the IV man.
Who is the IV man and what game was he from and what did he do? I obviously know that he tells u the IVs but what exactly does he tell u and what generation was he from? 2nd?

The IV man was found in the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald in a house right above the pokemon center. When you speak to him, he'll ask to see a pokemon. Then, he'll say something like...

Hmm...Your "pokemon" is...

...average in ability
...better then average in ability
...quite impressive in ability!
...wonderfully outstanding in ability!

The first phrase that he says determines the overall strength of your iv's. The closer to max (31) your iv's are, the better the phrase.

Then, he'll tell you which stat has the best iv overall and the strength of it. For example, if speed is the highest iv, he'll say something like...

Furthermore, the best iv of your "pokemon" seems to be it's speed...

then he'll say something like...
...that stat is relatively good...
...that stat is quite impressive...
...that stat is outstanding!
...that stat is flawless!

Flawless is obviously 31. Outstanding is around 25-30. The beauty of the iv man is that if you have multiple iv's that are high, he'll tell you those. So for example, if you have a pokemon with 4 flawless iv's, he'll tell you all of them. It can save a lot of time for iv battles and such. This is especially good for multiple breeding.

im way too anxious for the next gen though it wont be around for a long time.

the MMORPG could be cool, but i have a feeling they wouldnt do it right, soo much potential though. Look how they Effed up battle revolution.

2) A hidden power man (or woman). Why not? Gamefreak started it off with IV's, why not hidden power? The guy would have 2 phrases. The first one would be something relating to the type, and the second one would be something relating to the power. For example...

Well, technically there already is a HP type checking entity (Kecleon). Not a man or woman but... Something to check the power would be greatly appreciated though.

The beauty of the iv man is that if you have multiple iv's that are high, he'll tell you those. So for example, if you have a pokemon with 4 flawless iv's, he'll tell you all of them. It can save a lot of time for iv battles and such. This is especially good for multiple breeding.

As long as we're proposing improvements, the IV person shouldn't give out a "random" stat when several stats are tied (multiple 31s) as it is now. It would be great if the tied stats are cycled through. A lot of times, I might have multiple 31s but the guy keeps saying I have flawless Special Defense, neglecting the other 31s. Though that might just be Emerald's funky RNG at work...

I think I've suggested here before that the Everstone should have an effect on males (and females, when breeding with Ditto) during Breeding. Let's say you have a 30/30/30/31/31/31 (omg) male Magikarp, Alert to Sounds, and a [whatever] Female Jolly Magikarp. If you give Everstone to the mother, there's a 50% chance the offspring will be Jolly too.

My idea is that, when the male holds an Everstone, it doesn't pass the nature, but the highest IV. Like the nature for the mother, the chance of passing the highest IV would be 50% and, when the pokémon has more than one highest IV, the one passed would be those its characteristic refers to (in the Magikarp's case, the Speed).

That's the best idea I can think now, on top of my head, that could even be added on the D/P remake already. Oh, that, and my idea of Ability Tutor.

mario that idea is beyond sick and would make life so much easier to breed hidden powers.

you dont have that magikarp do you?

FRLG came before Emerald.

I completely agree with bringing the IV man back. I have no access to Wi-Fi, so checking IV's and breeding is a complete shitsucker for me. I had to restart Ruby just to get all the freaking Rare Candies I needed....

I'd just like to point out to some of the people discussing, when the new gen comes out, it won't be possible for them to add new moves, abilities, or pokemon, otherwise the game will not be mutually compatible with DP. They could give already existing moves to pokemon that didn't learn them previously. They could concievably change abilities around, but I doubt they would.

G/S remake is nearly a sure thing.

Fixed. New moves and abilities introduced in a new generation are nothing new. See RBY->GSC and RSE->DP transitions.

I wanna see some better physical walls in the next gen. Ones that are as good at blissey when it comes to defending (except physical instead of special). And more mixed walls. The only true mixed walls we have Cresselia. And Giratina and lugia in ubers. Dusknoir to a certain extent but that 45 hp really hurts it.

So you want there to be another overpowered wall combo like GSC/RSE Skarmbliss, only WORSE? =\

No thanks.

The next Pokemon title needs an ability tutor. I want my Frisk Furret, dammit.

Oh, and certain abilities should be upgraded to be useful in battle. Like Keen Eye bypasses evasiveness boosting, Run Away Pokes can't be trapped, Illuminate cuts the power of Dark Type moves by 50% (no more Dark weak for Starmie!), etc.

Also, Spider Web lowering the opponent's speed like String Shot as well as trapping would make Ariados not entirely unusable since it would give it a chance of pulling off a Spider Web pass (would be able to outspeed base 95's with max speed after Spider Web).
