Sword & Shield **Official news only** DLC Crown Tundra 22nd October

Mega Charizard Y's reveal alongside Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise is sort of a similar situation as Braviary's reveal. However, I don't remember if Braviary was announced to be a version exclusive, and Zard Y was only known as "Mega Charizard" at the time months before the Mega Charizard X reveal. Sirfetch'd was announced to be a Sword exclusive from the get, but with no Shield counterpart.

And so was Mega Mewtwo Y, revealed even before we knew of Mega Evolutions.

But I guess Sirfetch'd case is a first, yes.

I just realized that it's weird that they announced Sirfetch'd and only Sirfetch'd. It's a version exclusive, and normally version exclusives are announced together...
I think it had two purposes:

First, to stretch out the pre-release information a bit further. Fewer Pokémon per announcement means they can have more announcements and still not spoil all of the game's content before release.

Second, because it's good marketing to keep fans buzzing and guessing. I suspect they knew the cat was out of the bag when it came to Sirfetch'd, and that fans would be quick to figure out what the distorted image would show. Essentially, fans already knew what the announcement would be about, we thought there would be no major surprises here. Cue the hint about there being a Shield exclusive counterpart. A counterpart to a long-requested evolution of a fan-favourite. TPC essentially told us: There will be another like this. That should be enough to send fans into a guessing frenzy. Will it be Dunsparce? Corsola? Girafarig? Carnivine? Chimecho? Komala? Instead of falling back with a sigh of "Hah, knew it", fans are now on their toes for more information. Announcing Sirfetch'd as a version exclusive was a great way to keep the hype alive by asking a new question for each one answered.

I’m actually surprised at how tight of a ship TPC has been in regards to ShSw. Especially considering that at this point in time, you would have needed to bring in testers and translators/localizers to get the game ready for worldwide release. Sure, we had the Affleck leak as well as some others that are credible but at this point I would expect more detailed information.

We still don’t know the legendaries or starters final typings. No information has been leaked on pre-evo/evolutions of revealed mons. We have no idea how many gyms there are, or what types they specialize in, beyond what was shown in a few trailers. Hell, for all the uproar over [REDACTED] no one has leaked a list of mons that aren’t in the game.

I know we all have our different opinions on leaks and their place in speculation and marketing, but I think it’s really commendable, even if it is a little maddening, at how little has actually been revealed.

Didn't Tyranitar show up before whatever trash that isn't Gojira (Now correctly sized!) showed up on the opposite version?

Do we know when is the next announcement? The Shield counterpart for Sirfetch'd should show up there.

Technically we did get TPC's own leak with the internal codenames and the numbers corresponding to the stages... :)

True, that was a slip-up, but even then, what did we get? The unexpected info that we got was that Alcremie, Dreadnaw, and Polteageist are stage 2 mons, that Corviknight is a stage 3, and that Duraludon doesn't evolve, and that is only if we are right in our hunch that the numbers correspond to evolution (which is a very strong guess). As to the other stage 1 mons, we have no idea how many evolutions they will have.

I'm surprised we still don't have any more info on the starters: their stats, second stages, anything outside of typing and appearance. Same goes for Zacian and Zamazenta. SS is less than two months away so I'm hoping we get more info about them soon.

So... *ahem* going back to what is specifically Sword and Shield...

Lol who died and made you hall monitor? When discussing which unannounced Pokemon will make it into Sword and Shield, it's likely that some Sinnoh fan favorites will be held back for the inevitable gen 4 remakes.

I'm not that surprised. This is the first time they've had anything even remotely resembling bad PR and are in damage control mode. By all accounts they also seem to be under a lot of deadline pressure to push the game out for the holidays and will likely be busy up until the game's release working on some kind of patch. I wouldn't be surprised for there to not only be no demo but for there to be some kind of review embargo for when it first comes out.

At the same time though, most of the stuff they’ve revealed since then has been generally well received and has gotten a lot of social media buzz, with Sirfetch’d alone generating buckets of positive media and most pokemon reveals being well received. Given their design quality is consistent revealing more stuff would probably create more positive press/social media reactions, which is ultimately what they want.

As for review embargos, doubtful. Most pokemon games are reviewed on the basis of their campaign and some endgame so I can’t imagine [REDACTED] significantly influencing media outlet reviews, which usually have a more casual slant. Maybe a mention or two, but it’ll still get a fat “9.1/10- there’s a little bit for everyone”

They can’t really push back the deadline now anyways, barring sudden catastrophic failure, due to the anime and TCG needing the games to come out on time. They likely couldn’t push it back at any point this year either due to how long it likely takes to make sets for the card game and episodes for the anime.

Not pushing it back but working on an early patch.

Some odd Live Stream type event will be happening next week. They've never done something like this before, but it probably is based on the Forested town in the north west of the region:

I wonder if Pokemon will walk past the camera and wave or something?

Hold it... twenty-four HOURS!?

Either it's a translation mistake, or it's going to be a huge reveal.

As I pointed out on our Orange Islands Discord, I believe this is the first official name for a location in Galar?

Until now we have been using what the places looked like on the overworld map to have any idea what people were talking about. Or the types of their Gyms; "Water gym town" or "Grass Gym Town". I wonder why they have waited so long this time to give us an official name of a location? Especially one which looks quite "deep" into the game (after at least 3/4 badges).

Either way, Glimwood Tangle is a good name for the area, and it's highly likely to be the one I pointed out in my previous post. I doubt the reveal will be huge, but its definitely a new marketing take on what we have seen TCPi do before. Presumably this will roll into another Direct or some other information deposit towards the end of next week/start of October. Remember, we are now just 7 weeks from Launch, and we still don't know so much about the region, let alone the Pokemon.

We got location names during the E3 Treehouse segment showing off the Wild Area just minutes before the announcement of [REDACTED]. Possibly one reason why everyone forgot about their reveal :P

Looking at the map, the gym by the location with giant mushrooms isnsuper pink, so I suppose this Glimwood place is gonna be filled with bugs, fairies, and grass types. Shiinotic would fit right at home here but i wonder if another regional variant woukd appear. Maybe a Fairy/Fighting Breloom?

I bet we can guess how this will go too:
- Sonia asks for our help to watch for new Pokemon and stuff on the livestream.
- Livestream happens, Pokemon that live in the area, both new and old, appear on screen. There is no indication of names/types for the new Pokemon so we’re left to speculate.
- Monday, October 7th another news post where Sonia thanks us for our help and says she’ll get her notes together and show off her findings soon.
- Wednesday the 9th a new Direct drops showing the stuff from the Livestream.

Still, nice new marketing direction.

I'm guessing they will reveal at least one brand new Pokemon, on top of a bunch of older 'mons that live in the forest. It's a clever way to do some reveals by essentially showing us the wild encounters in an area.

Glimwood Tangle is a great name, very whimsical.
