Unpopular opinions

I don’t think they are terrible, though I definitely prefer the original versions. I wonder if this is another case of TPC being overprotective of the brand name. Other Nintendo Mobile games ( Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Mario Kart Tour, Dragalia Lost ) they all feature actual tracks from their core games in addition to new ones from the mobile games. Also worth helped develop ALL the Nintendo Mobile core games, usually as a co-developer. Unlike the others though DeNA was the primary developer of Masters, and since GF did not help make the game, TPC was afraid to license the rights for soundtracks in game.
While the discrepancy between Masters and other Nintendo mobile games music-wise is a bit strange, I dunno if this is a case of overprotective licensing. I'm no copyright law expert but in that case wouldn't DeNA be forced to make totally original tracks? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're only allowed to use parts of the original tracks which is just absurd and not likely at all????

I don't think it's the worse-case scenario if that's true since we get tons of new music out of it. Way better than Amiibo T-Shirt Yoshi. Somewhat related, I don't like most Cynthia battle theme remixes. The only ones I like are the 1st BW theme and battle gene M.
B2W2 remix is too similiar to the BW remix, Smash 4 sounds off to me (my favorite part is when it cuts to her encounter theme unedited and the strings at the loop), and the Masters theme doesn't pump me up. I don't know if I want something more elegant, more off the wall, or I'm just fickle.

Okay, I gotta ask, what are the lyrics to Cynthia's theme?
My battle gene is rallying
This is not a pretend battle!
Even the setting sun of Govari is trembling before me

This a world without boys and girls
It has nothing to do with affections
You will crumble before me in record time
And then you shall beg for mercy

Howl to the sea
Pray to the moon

What's "Govari"?

This a world without boys and girls

But the playable characters are kids.
Had the line been "This a world not for boys and girls" MAYBE it would make more sense, like it's Cynthia telling the player that challenging the Pokemon League aren't for mere kids.

Okay, we're done here.

What's "Govari"?
I searched that up and nihonjins have no idea either. That thread is pretty funny though, and the next region should just be called ゴヴァリ.

You unlock passwords not remove them... and why "password"?
暗号 is more like a code or encryption than password, which in Japanese really is just the same (パスワード).
解読 would be to decipher. Seems like a more appropriate translation would be "unlock the secret to victory". But there's actually more to this which I'll explain at the bottom, including the part about the raccoon.

To be explained at the bottom.

Well which one is it.
I mean, she could be a strong trainer and be a gentle person, which is what I think she's getting at here, though やさしい I prefer to translate as "nice" in this case.

Because Cynthia doesn't pose.

Except when she does.
I'll explain this part along with the one below.

What do the glasses do?
カガミ (kagami) is 鏡, which is mirror. Glasses would be メガネ (megane).
But there's more to this part, which is entirely mistranslated IMO on Bulbapedia.

ヒーロー気どるマッチョ野郎
Is more like "macho guy acting all heroic", the 気どる part is important because this is probably what messed up the translator. In any case, I feel like this part is where the singer is talking to... a macho guy who's acting all heroic, which would make...

ポーズはいい そこをどけ!
... this part make sense. The first part, ポーズはいい, is more or less accurate, though it's more just "quit posing!"
そこをどけ! is where this gets confusing. 気どる (kidoru) in the part before, when written in kanji, is 気取る. The translator probably thought どけ (doke) here uses the same verb stem as 気取る, and this throws him/her off. This どけ is actually 退け, which means "retreat".

カガミの前にこそ おまえに似あってる
"You're more suited in front of a mirror", but there are probably better words to use.

Put all that together, and it's the singer telling some macho guy who's trying to be heroic to quit posing and go back to standing in front of a mirror rather than act like someone he's not.

And now for the coded parts.

ビクトリー・ノ・アンゴウ・ヲ・カイドク・セヨ
Idk if they were trying to be smart, but this in itself is a code.
Remember the とる (toru)from earlier? Okay it was どる (doru) but they both use the kanji 取 which means to take. In any case, it appears here again in the katakana トリ. The first part reads Victory, but break that down and you get...

ビ・ク・トリ = take away ビ・ク

Now let's look at the next line

シクロ ナビク サンク ノビヨ ウクニ

Follow the instructions and take away ビ and ク from that line and you get

シロ ナ サン ノ ヨウ ニ, which when written properly using hiragana as well (because it's easier to read), you get

シロナさんのように, which in English would be "like Cynthia"

In fact, whoever Bulbapedia got this from actually tells you the code.

I WA NT TO BE COME LI KE CYN TH IA
I WANT TO BECOME LIKE CYNTHIA

ラクーン・ノ・アンゴウ・ヲ・カイドク・セヨ

ラクーン is raccoon, yes, and in Japanese it's also タヌキ. You might be looking for とる or どる now, but in this code they use the verb 抜き (nuki), which means to take out.

タヌキ = たを抜く (just changing the verb form here, don't worry about it) = take away た/タ

タミサ キタモ イツカ カタナ ラタズ

Follow the instructions for this and you get

ミサ キモ イツカ カナ ラズ
ミサキもいつかかならず = ミサキもいつか必ず, Misaki (the singer's name) will also someday

(be strong, be nice!
be nice, be strong!)

Again, the translator tells you the code here too.

Well I was just being snarky, but thanks for the lesson! That's really interesting, especially about the cipher message. :bloblul:

I searched that up and nihonjins have no idea either. That thread is pretty funny though, and the next region should just be called ゴヴァリ.

Hm, which place in the world would a region called Govari be based on. Maybe Italy?

Seems like a more appropriate translation would be "unlock the secret to victory".

That at least sounds better.

But there's more to this part, which is entirely mistranslated IMO on Bulbapedia.

Decided to put this through Google translate to see what it came up with. Obviously is still a mess but a different kind of mess so whoever translated this did seem to do it manually (as evident with revealing the message with the cipher).

And now for the coded parts.

So was the Japanese sentences the ciphers were hidden in also a random string of words or was it an actual phrase?

Eitherway, I can now see the difficulty in translating the song. Was curious why those parts had random capitalized words, and I did see Cynthia's name in "CYNic THy vIA" but (1.) at first thought it was some kind of pronunciation pun that didn't translate but then (2.) remember Cynthia's name in Japan was "Shirona" so obviously that couldn't be the case as the song would use a pun that had Shirona in it. Turns out the translator was one step ahead of me this entire time and made their own cipher trying to make the message as obvious as possible... that I still didn't get. :facepalm:

Though, unless I'm getting something wrong, still seems odd that the singer sang something that's a cipher you can only figure out when written out. Is this a thing in Japan, hiding written ciphers in spoken phrases?

BTW you should send this explanation to the staff of Bulbapedia so they not only can get a more accurate translation up but also explain the song's gimmick.

Hm, which place in the world would a region called Govari be based on. Maybe Italy?
Honestly it's about time Italy got something, if they're going to continue basing regions on real world places.

So was the Japanese sentences the ciphers were hidden in also a random string of words or was it an actual phrase?
As far as I can tell, it's just gibberish.

Though, unless I'm getting something wrong, still seems odd that the singer sang something that's a cipher you can only figure out when written out. Is this a thing in Japan, hiding written ciphers in spoken phrases?
I'm not aware of it being a thing at all, though maybe everyone around me has been speaking in ciphers the entire time and I've been completely oblivious.

I actually kinda like the slow speed in the routes leading up to Snowpoint City and the way you get stuck in the swampy places by Pastoria. It adds a degree of realism as it's not like you'd be blazing through a freakin swamp or knee-high snow irl. I would've sped up the walking speed a tad and made it so that you don't get stuck in every tile tho.

What time is it? 1:12 AM Time to make basically everyone angry!

Unpopular opinion time: I'mmmmm not actually looking forward to Sinnoh remakes, and to be honest (this is the part where everyone laughs), I really wish they happened in Gen VII and were just the last games in the DS series of consoles. But still, failing that, I want so incredibly badly for them not to happen in Generation VIII specifically.

Okay, so...
I went through and looked at what every Generation since IV has added to the series, where those features went and what has changed since then.
I've concluded that, while Sword and Shield may not be lacking relative to Generation IV, the thing is that nearly everything good that's happened since Generation IV was in Generaton VII... and many of those specific things are what is now either gone or gutted in Sword and Shield.

If Generation IV were remade right now, it would just be a waste - this is the one chance Game Freak has to revisit Sinnoh and make something new and cool out of it and show how far the series has come, and they're almost definitely not getting a second remake in anything short of decades from now.
I mean, yeah, obviously the new graphics would be cool, and obviously there are QOL features, and obviously we have Fairies now, but...
well, here's a list to show you what I mean about how the series has advanced since Generation IV.
Bold text means we can still realistically expect for these to be in a hypothetical Sinnoh remake if that's the next game that happens
(Italic is a maybe)

FROM EVERY GENERATION SINCE IV

- New Pokémon not from DPPt (? we do know the selection will be limited, but the thing is that - unless they manage to include every Pokémon that's already in SwSh, but even as a design choice, I'm not confident that they will)
* To elaborate on this... if they limit the selection at all, they're definitely not going to do that by cutting Pokémon that were already in DPPt, and 493 is already more than Sword and Shield had. I don't think we need the complete National Pokédex or anything for the remakes to be good. But that said, I do think the dex cuts are at least a bigger hit to remakes than they are to proper new entries, and I am afraid of the possibility of pulling an LGPE and having nothing more than what was in the originals but a Mythical or two. Melmetal was good. I love Melmetal. But it's not better than Pokémon 152 through 807 combined.
* For comparison: if this were the last 3DS game, we would be guaranteed at least everything up to Zeraora.

- New battle styles (? every Generation has had some of these - Triple, Rotation, Horde, SOS and Battle Royal - but we're currently back to only the formats that existed in Generation IV, plus Max Raid battles, minus Multi Battles from the majority of the game, including places like the Battle Tower... and they're apparently super clunky for PVP, too)
* For comparison: if this were the last 3DS game, we would have at least SOS battles (like ORAS had Hordes from XY) and proper support for Multi Battles, as well as possibly Battle Royals in some form, although these were more Alola-specific.

- Graphical improvements and UI improvements
* This is happening.

- More PC box space
* This is happening.

- New moves, Abilities, items and battle balance changes
* This is happening, although a few have been lost relative to Generation VII.

- Improvements on the Battle Tower clone (yeah, this is absolutely not happening now)
* This is a big one for me. I know everyone talks about battle facilities being on a decline in quantity and diversity, but the Battle Tower clone itself has been getting better and better every Generation!
BW gave us the division of Normal Mode and Super Mode, so losing your streak didn't mean going right back to the unevolved tutorial opponents; XY made it more approachable and streamlined, as well as more convenient to earn BP; ORAS dropped the idea of locking TMs behind BP, a major QOL issue; SM gave us the inclusion of story characters and cames as mini bosses, as well as the scouting mechanic (a straight improvement over a feature from DPPt!); and USUM even gave us alternate methods of BP gain, which I appreciated because it meant that the facility wasn't a barrier to the players who weren't interested in playing it.
We've gradually been moving in a direction where the Battle Tower equivalent is the one feature that does not need to bend over backwards for the so-called "casual audience" (and I can say with total confidence both that this was the primary intention behind the changes made to the Tower in SwSh and that the feature is not any more fun for that audience than it was before, which is why I'm putting it in quotes: the target audience of the new Battle Tower is one that I don't actually think exists) - it was safe for it to focus on the players who already enjoy this kind of feature, without being alienating to the players who don't, because there's no longer anything locked behind it and it only exists for its own sake.
And it absolutely worked! The Battle Tree is the only regular regional "basic Tower clone" I've ever just enjoyed playing to kill time, with no end goal but to have fun and build my streak, even without having anything obviously setting it apart like the other kinds of facilities in the Battle Frontiers past. This would be the perfect core set of mechanics to make the best possible incarnation of the Sinnoh Battle Frontier... but you know what? I'm going to be honest and say that I would also gladly take an exact copy of the Battle Tree and no other facilities, just updated for Generation IV's characters like Palmer and the stat trainers, and I would still actively enjoy it as a postgame feature in Sinnoh remakes and regularly play it.
This is what we've lost with the totally gutted Battle Tower in Sword and Shield.

Okay, on to Generation-specific ones...

ORIGINATING IN GENERATION V

- dark grass (this was just a Gen V thing)
* Wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII (and not really important).

- seasons (these were just a Gen V thing)
* Wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII (and not really important).

- the original Entralink (which is pretty much inconsequential to be fair) and Funfest Missions (these were just a Gen V thing)
* Wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII (and not really important).

- the Habitat List (? this was just a Gen V thing, but it did come back for ORAS, so putting this down as a maybe no matter which Gen)

- PGL (gone as of Generation VIII)
* Not sure if this feature really matters that much, to be fair, but yeah.

- Team Preview
* This is happening.

- phenomena -> Hidden Pokémon (part of DexNav) -> ambush encounters -> overworld encounters (lumped together because they're at least somewhat equivalent)
* There will almost definitely be something like this, yes. It will probably be overworld encounters in Gen VIII, while it would have been regular ambush encounters if this were the last 3DS game. This could be a point for Gen VIII depending how you feel about them.

- Pass Powers -> O-Powers -> Roto Loto (sort of)
* No equivalent exists in Generation VIII.

ORIGINATING IN GENERATION VI

- The Fairy type and other type chart changes.
* This is happening.

- Mega Evolution and Primal Reversion
* May they rest in peace. These would definitely have been in for Generation VII and will explicitly very definitely not be in for Generation VIII.

- Sky Battles (these were just a Gen VI thing)
* Wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII (and not really important).

- Inverse Battles (? these were mostly just a Gen VI thing)
* These actually did make a brief return in Gen VII for a Wi-Fi competition, but they don't seem to be in Gen VIII? I'm not sure what to make of this (but to be fair... also not really important).

- Super Training (this was just a Gen VI thing)
* Wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII.

- Character customization (? this one is a maybe because it was intentionally excluded from ORAS on the basis of being a remake)
* This isn't really a point against Gen VIII or for Gen VII - if either one would have it, the other probably would, too - but it's not really something we can safely anticipate, either. I'm not gonna cite this as a reason why a Generation VII remake would've been better, but I am tentatively striking it from the list of things Sinnoh remakes would actually stand to gain from being made right now.

- The modern Experience Share
* This is happening, buuut...

- The modern Experience Share being optional (gone as of Gen VIII)
* ... my first post in all of Orange Islands was about why this was an absolutely terrible change, and I stand by that completely. This actually proved to be a significant obstacle to my enjoyment in Gen VIII. On the other hand, I absolutely loved how it was handled in Gen VII. Definitely another point against a remake happening right now.

- Soaring (this was just an ORAS thing (and then LGPE brought it back (but worse) and then it was gone again))
* Technically this does seem to be a remake thing, so maybe? but I kinda doubt it, and LGPE executed it badly, and Fly in SwSh amounts to a loading screen.

- The PSS (this was just a Gen VI thing)
* I will touch on Festival Plaza in a bit, but this wouldn't happen now or in Gen VII.

- Pokémon-Amie -> Pokémon Refresh (replaced as of Gen VIII)
* We have Camping now, but I absolutely loved how Refresh was integrated and personally don't think Camping can compare. I do know some people like Camping, so this one might be controversial - if you do like Camping as a feature, that's valid, and this can be a plus for you! It's just definitely something I miss that we would've had if Sinnoh remakes were on the 3DS.

ORIGINATING IN GENERATION VII

- regional variation (? maybe)
* This was intentionally excluded from USUM on the basis of being an already-explored region, but Sword and Shield might actually be opening this up again? Unclear but possible. That said, it seems likely based on past precedents (USUM not doing it at all + the way SwSh DLC does it) that only Pokémon not already obtainable in Sinnoh will be considered candidates, and those are also the least likely Pokémon to receive a spotlight. Putting this as exciting but questionable for either Gen?

- Z-Moves
* Explicitly very definitely gone. That said, I will confess that I don't miss them - I loved them for flavor reasons and what they added to Alola (they were also just cute), but I think leaving them to Alola is best, and I don't think they did were that mechanically beneficial.

- Totem Pokémon and auras
* Even LGPE had this, so we KNOW Sinnoh remakes would have done the same... but gone as of Gen VIII, and may they rest in peace.

- Poké Ride
* Almost definitely would have happened in Gen VII. Gone as of Gen VIII.

- Poké Pelago (replaced as of Generation VIII)
* I will miss this. So much.

- Hyper Training
- Checking on a caught Pokémon before sending them to the box
* To their credit, SwSh definitely didn't hold back with the QOL, at least! Both of these are happening.

- the Poké Finder and the Photo Club
* I would actually be pretty surprised if 3DS Sinnoh remakes didn't have these, because they seem like a perfect match for some mechanics Gen IV already had. Gone as of Gen VIII (but admittedly not super important).

- Festival Plaza
* Okay, I know this one wouldn't make a lot of people happy. It's very likely that we would have gotten this in Generation VII instead of the PSS or anything. But... oh my goodness, do you really want the Y-Comm instead? This was perfectly serviceable. It's a low bar, but it's one neither Switch game so far has even remotely reached.

ORGINATING IN LGPE
* At this point, none of the mechanics that are absent here are ones that the 3DS would have over Switch remakes... but they do still contribute to my point of how little there would be to gain from making Sinnoh remakes at this specific point in time.

- Partner Pokémon
* ... well, technically they might come back, if and only if the Sinnoh remakes are Let's Go!
* so call the strikethrough there "optimism"
* (actually I do kind of like what LGPE did with these though - could some of these features become the norm for starters in the future?)

- GO-inspired capture mechanics and motion controls
* Mad respect to Sword and Shield for not doing this
* Good riddance

- Catch Combos
* These actually sounded like a cool feature, but they're also gone as of Generation VIII. One of the few LGPE features I wish I had been able to experience for myself to clarify, I've done plenty of research and watched full walkthroughs so I could form an educated opinion before I judged LGPE, but I have not played them myself - I didn't have a Switch at the time they came out, and I just don't think I could bring myself to play them now

- Two-player local multiplayer (with like exploring the region together and stuff? there's a word for this but it's past midnight and I can't think of it)
* Gone as of Gen VIII (in this form... the Wild Area has its own bullet later - I didn't forget!).

- Walking Pokémon
* Gone as of Gen VIII... why are these gone as of Gen VIII?
* Every Pokémon already has fully functioning overworld behaviors
* I'm
* Guys
* Wh

- The Pokémon Box
* I actually do also like this. Again, SwSh did not fall short in keeping up the QOL features.

ORIGINATING IN GENERATION VIII

- The Wild Area (? questioning this because it's almost more of a design philosophy than a feature)
* Its core mechanics will probably be applied to the Underground, but I can't see Sinnoh being significantly remapped to center around a Wild Area the way Galar does.
Just you wait for my eventual Unpopular Opinions post on this.

- Dynamax and Gigantamax (probably)
* ... which are like the Gen VI and VII features they replaced but less good.

- The Y-Comm
* ... which is like the Gen VI and VII features it replaced but less good. The worst part is that multiplayer was one of Gen IV's strong suits and its big selling point, and it's at its lowest point since then... right now, as we're talking about remaking them.

- Camping
* Again, this might be unpopular, but I feel the same: that this is like the Gen VI and VII features it replaced but less good. I respect that people enjoy this more, though - this could be a plus for you.

- Poké Jobs
* ... which is like the Gen VII feature it replaced but less good. How long will this go on?

- The Battle Tower's new rank system
* ... which is like the Gen VII VI V IV?? III feature it replaced but less good.

- Existing on a single screen for the first time since Generation IV itself
* There was a whole lot of emphasis on the introduction of touch screen features to the series in Generation IV, and with the minimal use of the touch screen in SwSh and the total inability to use two screens at the same time, I just can't help but wonder how many side features from Sinnoh will be lost to this or totally gutted.

TO RECAP

The parts of this list that we actually get:
* graphics
* QOL: box space, Hyper Training, checking on caught Pokémon, accessing the Pokémon Box from anywhere
* moves/Abilities/items
* Team Preview
* overworld encounters
* the Fairy type and other type chart changes
* mandatory Experience Share
* Dynamax and Gigantamax (fantastic)
* the Y-Comm (excellent)
* Camping (can't wait)
* Poké Jobs (favorite feature)
* the new Battle Tower (I'm so glad they threw out everything good about it)
* being a single screen (see now I'm just wondering why they didn't think of this for the original Gen IV!)

So here's my opinion: I really, REALLY don't want for Sinnoh remakes to come out right now. I have no interest in remakes purely for the sake of remakes - if we're going to see Sinnoh, I can't imagine the only selling point being "going back to Sinnoh as it was."
The thing is that the series has been gradually getting better in my eyes, and a Sinnoh remake coming out last Gen would have been genuinely exciting for me! I mean, I've talked so much in my other posts about the dip in quality from the 3DS era to Sword and Shield in almost every area - do I still need to explain what I think has changed?
I mean, I guess we'd lose overworld encounters for SM's ambush encounter system, which is something I don't personally mind but I think a lot of people care about this (?)... but in exchange, we could toggle the Experience Share, have Generation VII's excellent boss design, trade Dynamax for Mega Evolution and Z-Moves, trade the Y-Comm for something actually functional, have Refresh back, trade Poké Jobs for Poké Pelago (rebranded as the Pal Park?), have the best standard battle facility the series has ever known instead of the worst (Frontier or no Frontier, I'd rather Gen VII's mechanics than Gen VII's, see all of the original dedicated dual screen features revamped for a console that actually supports them, take for granted that at least some of our new favorite Pokémon can see Sinnoh for the first time, and even have Poké Ride to solve the HM crisis as opposed to a bike that pretends to be a Pokémon to be cool but you can't actually see the Rotom on it... and that pretends to be customizable to be cool but looks awful in every color....
For that matter, I wouldn't mind Bank instead of HOME and Wi-Fi instead of NSO?
Admittedly, I don't doubt that there are people here who are just as uninterested in the prospect of a Sinnoh remake with what I would have liked to see in it last Gen, so maybe that side of this is more of a personal thing - but considering the features I've highlighted above, all I can say is that I would love that game myself, and the Generation VIII equivalent just looks so incredibly barren in comparison.
Especially knowing that remakes tend to be a one-time thing, I doubt we'll ever have another chance to see a new game give Sinnoh another look and try to make it the best it can be. We have one opportunity to revisit Sinnoh with some Generation's set of revised and modernized mechanics. With that in mind, I would really, really like it to be in a Generation that's not... the least improved from Generation IV out of any that's happened since? Please don't waste it on the set of revised and modernized mechanics that specifically this Generation has to offer, because I have zero confidence and zero interest in a Generation VIII remake of Generation IV.
so yeah can you tell I'm really loving Gen VIII
For the record, I do think many of these are temporary kinks that will be worked out as Game Freak gets better at working with the Switch and/or temporary gimmicks that will be revamped or replaced next Gen anyway - and I also almost always find the second Generation of a given console to be a massive step up from the first! I hope this doesn't come off as ranting about the death of the series or anything; no matter how I may feel about this Generation, I definitely think the series will find its feet again soon. I mean, heck, Generation VI was one of my least favorite Generations at the time, and it was immediately followed by one of my favorite entries in the entire series. I know a lot of people don't have faith in Game Freak, but I honestly think that they can turn this around.
But... that said, I just really think this is exactly the wrong time to do something as important and long-awaited as Sinnoh remakes. In general, I'm admittedly just... already kind of desperate for this Generation to be over - but I'm hopeful that we'll get off to a better start when we move on to the next one and have a clean slate.

Andddddd that's all bye everyone and sorry for such a negative post

I don't want Sinnoh remakes at this point either - I just don't have faith that they would be any good.

Hematite covered most aspects, conveniently with the exception of my main point against Sinnoh remakes: the map.

Compared to Galar, Sinnoh is huge. Just look at the number of locations in each region:

dtls8aF.png

Sinnoh has almost twice the number of settlements, three times the number of Routes (still a higher number if you could the various parts of the Wild Area as Routes), and more than five times the number of Landmarks/dungeons/non-Route areas. And that's not even beginning to count the size and scope of those areas: even a minor cave like Oreburgh Gate rivals the size of each of the Galar Mines. Mt. Coronet alone is almost the size of the Wild Area. Most of the rest of the "Landmarks" listed in Galar are single-room locations almost completely devoid of trainers, items, or wild Pokémon, while Sinnoh's Landmarks include large areas like Stark Mountain, Old Chateau, or Lost Tower.

It follows that recreating all of Sinnoh with SwSh's graphics would be much more work than creating Galar was. I'm not even sure if it could fit on a cartridge. Sinnoh also has a very simplistic design, with a very limited tileset, that wouldn't convert well straight to 3D. What looked acceptable on a handheld game in 2006 (and as I've argued before, it looked worse than RSE due to the limitations of the 3D engine) isn't as excusable for a home console in 2021 (or later). Each area would require a complete graphical overhaul from the ground up, including a proper background. And that's before you consider the need to include things like a Wild Area.

This leaves Game Freak with two realistic options: An LGPE-style tile-for-tile remake with the camera locked in a top-down perspective, or to scale down Sinnoh massively. The first would represent a great step backwards in terms of graphics, and might be hard to sell to a wider audience, while the second would kind of negate the point of having a remake at all. Either way, we wouldn't get a very good game out of it - arguably, just replaying Platinum would be better. The third option would be to put in all that work, which I don't see as particularly realistic given Game Freak's track record with recent generations.

Is it wrong of me to think that I want Sinnoh remakes but I just don't want Game Freak to be the ones to make it?

I honestly don't like how all Poke remakes are not based on the Original art/Poke designs. And no I don't mean sprites, I mean actual finalized art and sketches
Though this applies to remakes overall
I REALLY hated LG Eevee's/Pika's artstyle. I shudder to see Gen 4 stuff warped to it

Here's my own counteropinion: I actually only have the fullest confidence that DPmakes are gonna be outstanding.

Let me be clear: I really do think SWSH's lackluster route design is a fluke, just like XY's lifeless and barren human cast turned out to be a fluke. And as Hematite said, due to just having more experience with the hardware and console development as a whole now whatever GF puts out after SWSH is guaranteed to be better just based on past experience. We're already seeing signs of this with the DLCs, both of which are boasted to add areas bigger and more content-filled than the Wild Area (admittedly not the highest bar but an improvement nonetheless). There's also some personal bias here as I did really like SWSH even with some of those aforementioned caveats and a few others, on a tier list I'd put it in A rank right next to Platinum (heresy I know, how dare I be objectively incorrect like that??? /s).

Aside from that I friggin adore ORAS and have a lot of appreciation for Let's Go and what it brought to the table despite not having played it myself. Now, if we were to take the character revamps and fleshed out extra locations of the former and the QoL improvements/presentation of Let's Go and apply it to Sinnoh... Oh man that sounds juicy. The fact of the matter is all the mainline remakes put out by Game Freak are consistently the highlights of their generations, filled with new content bits, improved presentation and lots more to really revitalize the original regions they are based on with corresponding audience and critical acclaim (yes, contrary to what this site's echo chamber would have you believe ORAS and Let's Go were both well-loved, the former is the best-selling remake by a good 2 million copies and the latter is widely credited by many casual fans for getting them back into the series and just generally being super duper fun, and we all know how people can't get enough of HGSS). So yeah, with this star-studded track record and the inevitable uptick in quality spurred by just greater hardware experience in mind I see no reason to show any sort of concern.

img + boasts of Sinnoh's amount of areas

Y'know, this is a good segue into what I guess is an unpopular opinion, but truthfully I'm not sure what to call it. You see when I played Platinum a couple of months ago and then Omega Ruby and Sun, I noticed something interesting: With the latter two games, I was far, FAR more compelled to explore any and all side content during my adventure. I would take regular detours to explore stuff like the Secret Base locations and Sea Mauville in OR, or take trips to the apparel shop (I became pretty pink boye uwu) and do some of the sidequests in Sun. At no point in Platinum, meanwhile, did any of that same explorative instinct kick into gear. All these juicy side areas, and I just couldn't be fucked. Now, the reason I'm hesitant to call this an unpopular opinion is because I'm really not 100% sure why this is. I think it might have to do with the assballs game speed that makes me want to "get it overwith" by not bothering to dive into the optional goodies whereas with the 3D games it isn't an issue since they don't run like complete shit.

I know I just made a super negative ramble about the next remake, so this probably sounds weird coming from me, but I actually definitely second that - LGPE's art style is one thing I think they got incredibly right! The way the region is portrayed and the redesigns of all of the characters are both directions I really love for the series, the visual style is so bright and colorful, the cutscenes are few but smooth and well animated, and all of the new designs are so charming and layered.
But like. Especially the redesigns. (Like, Agatha! I think there was a post recently about how much more interesting Agatha was than basically any member of the first six Generations' Elite Four at least and I totally agree with that, and her LGPE design is kind of one of my favorite character designs in the series. She's super expressive and conveys her grouchiness well, her color scheme is unique and suits her well, and there are so many cool, subtle details in her clothes, like the Gengar cane, the shapes of people in her shawl and the skull faces on her smock... A lot of characters got nice redesigns like this, the Elite Four especially.)
And just in general, the actively cute, chibi style is one that I think suited the tone of the game extremely well (and one that I would honestly be happy to see becoming standard for the series) - I definitely love LGPE's art style more than most!!

I mean, also, I do want to clarify that even LGPE don't look like games I would've totally skipped if I had the chance to get them at the time in the first place - there are a couple of choices in them that I really liked!

I definitely had qualms with a few of the things I saw, and I'm not sure how much they would have gotten in the way of the experience; some of them seem particularly important, while others are a bit less more nitpicky.
- some elements of the walking and specifically riding Pokémon features admittedly made me kind of dizzy and motion sick, specifically when the camera snaps back and forth if you're riding a Pokémon in and out of an area where the hitbox doesn't fit on that note, the Wild Area also makes me super motion sick and I physically cannot play it for long, and while I know everyone else wants total camera control and I would feel selfish asking for that not to happen at all, I'm quietly hoping that we'll have a toggle to go back to a fixed camera for future entries; this is actually pretty much the main thing that turned my opinion of the Wild Area from mere apathy to actual dislike, and it's also a big reason why I'm not excited for the DLC, though it's possible that it might've been better if I were the one controlling the movements, because obviously no LPer is going to have my needs in mind when they're doing it
- while catching wild Pokémon the normal way has never been a favorite feature of mine and I've had some ideas for how to overhaul it myself, the GO-inspired motion controls are definitely not a direction I want to see it take, as they remove both some in-world meaning from the feature and a great deal of accessibility for the series
- I don't think Master Trainers are an interesting mechanic, and I think there would have been much better and more practical ways to implement them that didn't require separately grinding up every single Pokémon and exclusively brute-forcing with Candies
- The loss of items, Abilities and EVs was definitely an unnecessary sacrifice and (in my opinion) an entirely bad choice and also why would they drop those to make it a beginner-friendly transition game but keep IVs (to clarify, my main issue with the Candy system is that it loses the customization and differentiation elements of EV training while amplifying the grinding involved; I don't have anything against revising the system, but if they do, they should be swinging very far in the opposite direction)
- there was no Battle Tower, so that was a definite step down from SM
- the Experience Share was forced for the first time
- it would've been nice to have the cross-Generational evolutions of the Generation I lines that made it in
- Professor Oak's speech to Trace at the end feels like it misses an important point and actively undermines and contradicts the point of Blue's arc by suggesting that treating Pokémon with love and care is the wrong way to bring out their strength and that it's a good thing the player cared slightly less than Trace... seriously, who approved this dialogue??
Right, so that does sound like nothing but complaints... but the thing is... that's it. I've just summed up everything I didn't like about LGPE, and I don't think there's nearly enough there for me to call them outright bad games - maybe it's just because I've actually played Sword and Shield although I was pretty thorough in following LGPE despite not being able to play them myself, but I have a whole lot more to criticize about them that, somehow, I actually think LGPE avoided.
There are certainly no examples here of glaringly bad design on the level of Dynamax or Max Raid Battles, for example; SwSh made much more significantly grating decisions with the story than Professor Oak saying one thing I don't like; and as far as I can tell, there's actually a fair bit more meaningful content in LGPE as well, at least of the kind that's important to me and that I would enjoy - the scale of the region, a proper Shiny hunting method, minor Legendaries to track down, Kanto's dungeons being fully intact not necessarily in a way that makes them better than other Kanto games, but certainly in a way that really makes me wonder why SwSh couldn't handle any more interesting maps than what we got, "rare" encounters handled with an interesting dedicated mechanic instead of just a 2% chance that's out of the player's control in weather that's out of the player's control...
And on the whole, it kind of just looks like a relaxed sandbox adventure - it's smaller in scope than other games, but it still feels polished, carefully crafted and complete.

And meanwhile, setting aside those few specific issues, I think there's a lot more good in LGPE than many people would admit!
There have already been some great posts about how their boss fights actually addressed some major issues that most Kanto-based games faced and were unexpectedly well designed; the fact of having Gym Leader rematches at all was awesome; many of the Gyms actually looked really nice visually; the remastered soundtrack felt like it fit the tone super well and was generally well done; some elements of the Partner Pokémon system are actually really nicely done, and I'd love to see them adopted for regular starter Pokémon in some way; fighting a Legendary Pokémon in a proper boss fight, aura and all, before having the chance to catch it is a really cool feature to be fair, I would've liked to see them employ interesting strategies like Totem Pokémon, but this is clearly a start and a move in a good direction; having minor Legendary Pokémon to catch and giving them proper boss fights and full dungeons is already a major step up from Sword and Shield; I genuinely support the decision to make the Pokémon Box accessible from anywhere; I appreciate that they still included Alola forms, and I definitely would have enjoyed using new favorites like the Alolan Grimer and Sandshrew lines on my team; and... somehow this is the last time the main series had Mega Evolution?
And as mentioned, I actually kind of love Melmetal.

Honestly, I don't think LGPE crushed my hopes for the next game at all the way Sword and Shield did - I didn't get them only because, as mentioned, it wasn't an option at the time, and I just didn't think it was worth going back after I had already seen everything there was to see in other ways.
There are some decisions that I think could've been handled better, some of which I think are relevant and important to my experience (the capture system, items/Abilities/EVs, the Battle Tower and the Experience Share - half of which weren't much better in Sword and Shield)... but the rest of which are just the kind of nitpicks I could make about every other game in the series, and I think LGPE had a good number of redeeming qualities as well. I know I was pretty annoyed about them at the time, so maybe I just have a new sense of perspective... but at least from what I've seen, I don't think LGPE "failed" as Pokémon games the way Sword and Shield did by my standards.

With that in mind, admittedly, maaaybe I'm being too defeatist with respect to Sinnoh remakes? I think something that manages to take only the best of the cues from LGPE and SwSh and not the worst could still be a good game.
And I guess after how different LGPE were from SM/USUM and how different SwSh were from LGPE, we don't necessarily know if being in the same Generation means anything any more - it's possible that they won't carry those bad decisions over from Sword and Shield for the sake of consistency and they will actually give them the reconsideration and reworking they need, and given any sign of that, I don't think I would be quite so worried after all.
They're definitely going to have to make a good impression to sell me on the next game, and I'll probably do some research into the datamine and early players' posts before I decide whether to buy it, which... is not really something I've ever had in mind before. Sword and Shield did a number on my enthusiasm for the next game, and I stand by every negative thing I've said about them and a lot more I have yet to say.
Buuut maybe I should be thinking less "if Sinnoh remakes are next, they're totally doomed" and more "if Sinnoh remakes are next, they have their work cut out for them," and I'm tentatively interested to see if they can actually follow through...?

On the topic of unpopular opinions with respect to exploration, I don't like the Wild Area as a concept, at least within a normal Region. In general, there are three reasons why I might want to explore an area in a game: because I am interested in the sights, because I am interested in the rewards, and because I am interested in the act of exploring itself. Here's why I don't think the Wild Area as we know it is going to be meeting any of those anytime soon.

Firstly, the sights. I've traveled a decent amount and seen some interesting landscapes IRL. This means that, no matter how much effort you put into your fields and forests and lakes, I will not be excited if that's all they are. This is the easiest thing to fix on its own (just make the Wild Area more fantastic), but would require a major rework of how Regions are designed if it's still going to be a large presence in the main story. This is also why I'm less-than-thrilled about most games that focus on open-world exploration (Xenoblade is the main exception, because it puts a lot of effort into unusual world design).

Then there's the rewards for exploration. This is the weird point here, since it influences whether I will go the ends of the area but doesn't really affect my enjoyment or whether I actually explore (I don't really think of "look up exactly where you need to go and go straight there" as actual exploration). In other words, you can make the area worth my time, but you can't make it enjoyable just by putting important stuff there.

Finally, there's the gameplay of exploration. I like puzzles and long chains of events, so I much prefer areas that progressively open up as a result of doing something else, metroidvania-style. This can also mean that I will prefer larger dungeons to a larger overworld (and thus view the older game's design philosophy as more enjoyable than a Wild Area). It's why I think that despite being a good game in general, BotW is pretty bad at being a Zelda game, getting tools that seriously change how problems are approached is a major part of the series. As for pokemon, I find well-made trainer battles a whole lot more fun than random encounters so I would prefer well-populated areas full of interesting fights to explore (as in, see everything they have to offer). So if you can't overhaul the travel mechanics into their own worthwhile game, my ideal Wild Area (place to have fun exploring) is a Battle Frontier.

I can not judge fully on if making the Sinnoh remakes would be a good thing or not, because I did not play Gen 4 yet. However since Gamefreak is able to retract its statements on no Natdex re-inclusions as shown in the SwSh DLC, there is hope I think. If they can take the QoL improvements and Wild Area in Swsh, the Battle Frontier, Normal/Distortion World, side quests, and lore of Gen4, (most at least) of the Natdex, and fix some of the reused animations, I think we would be in for a treat. Gamefreak has shown that it can be receptive to fan feedback.

On a more unrelated note, here's a bingo sheet of well-agreed opinions within the Pokemon Community I created. If you disagree with a statement, mark it red, and if you agree with a statement, mark it green. Feel free to explain and so forth. IF you get 5 reds in a row/diagonal/column or at agree with no less than 22 spots, you "win". :blobthumbsup:

Here's mine:

That Bingo board is amazing lmao.

As for the rest... Dang, these are some spicy takes!

My personal opinion about a Plat Remake (Yes. Platinum. Don't give me that ORAS nonsense.) is simple.

It's not happening unless the DLC sells extremely badly or GF finally starts thinking and use it to stretch this Generation, and there's why I don't want the remakes to happen this Gen.

SwSh have severe flaws.

Dynamax is terrifyingly bad, the "gliding" models for birds (Thanks Sky Battles) are still being reused even though SBs got axed and the animations are horrible, the game still uses the fixed-camera angles, the Pokémon models aren't scaled in battles and most importantly...

The draw distance.

All other things could be fixed, but that draw distance will take some serious effort. And frankly, I don't trust GF to actually do that.

I'm not even sure if it could fit on a cartridge.
I'm sure it could, its just that GF's design philosophy is totally different in SwSh than in DP, with the philosophy being currently is: " Streamline the game because kid's don't have the attention span for complex games due to mobile games. "

We're already seeing signs of this with the DLCs, both of which are boasted to add areas bigger and more content-filled than the Wild Area (admittedly not the highest bar but an improvement nonetheless).
I would not comment on this until the DLC actually comes out and gets reviewed.
ORAS and Let's Go were both well-loved, the former is the best-selling remake by a good 2 million copies and the latter is widely credited by many casual fans for getting them back into the series and just generally being super duper fun, and we all know how people can't get enough of HGSS)
I think the problem with ORAS is that it seems to be " Ruby and Sapphire " remake, not an Emerald remake. What I mean by this is that you have the Battle Frontier as the most glaring example, but you have things like no gym leader rematches, characters like Juan, Frontier Brains, and Scott missing, as well as story events like Steven being champion instead of Wallace. I think the former one is the most baffling, since rematches of gym leaders were in XY. In contrast, HGSS managed to keep Eusine as well as the Suicune plot while also incorporating on elements of the regular GS so it feels like you get a taste of all 3.

And finally, I think there is a major reason people are forgetting why remakes are made in the first place. Remakes are often made with the intention of allowing all Pokemon being caught without the aid of previous hardware. FRLG were made because they allowed you to catch Kanto Pokemon while RS allowed you to obtain Hoenn Pokemon while Colsseum allowed you to obtain Johto Pokemon.

HGSS, in addition to allowing you to obtain John and Kanto Pokemon, also includes Hoenn Legendary Pokemon and starters because Developers wanted to remove reliance on GBA games for completing the Pokedex.

Between ORAS and XY, every Pokemon that is not a mythical can be caught via collaboration with all 4 games.

With Dexit, Sword and Shield will never have to rely on another pair of Pokemon games to complete the Pokedex. And this might be unpopular opinion, but I believe that was the primary reason why the remakes were made in development in the first place, as well as to make money off nostalgia and save time off on development by reusing maps and characters.

Dang it, this board doesn't have spinoffs noted
Here's mine for unpopular
-Not localizing Wiiware Mystery Dunegon wasn't a bad thing. The game laughably was bare for content outside having all Gen 4 Pokemon, and it started most of all the faults for 3D Mystery Dungeon (especially audio). GTi actually is an improvement despite small Dex
-Colo and XD are hyper overrated. GS Moreso since HAL did all Gen 1-3 mon models and anims, while GS SUCKED for human anims for Colo
-Also why BR is overrated, as Gen 4 mons were worse animated, and the attempts to modernize Gen 1 models were mostly poor. also walking anims sucked, and the games content is worse than Stadium 1/2s
-RTDX is the equiv to SwSh rushedly porting 3DS assets to Switch. Just with a trash filter that fails to replicate watercolor. Way too saturated
For popular
-Snap 2 was a missed opportunity for Wii U
-Rangers 3 as well

Why would draw distance (theoretically) matter in a Sinnoh remake when it would almost definitely be fixed camera at all points unless they make the marsh/mt. coronet a wild area? Every single route in the game is flanked by mountains/infinite trees anyways so I don’t see what a free camera would add. Outside of that all the flaws you mentioned outside of that are pretty negligible for gameplay purposes and not SwSh specific (oh the horror of floating xatu) or not even sure to be present in the remakes (like Dynamax, GF seems pretty flexible on which gimmicks to include in which games, Let’s Go having megas and no Z-moves is the prime example). Plus Dynamax is fine as an in-game mechanic due to the limited activation, handled much better than Z-Moves at least.

Most weak mons that got megas should have that as an evo instead
Make it a specific stone based evo that requires one to be level 50 minimum, given to specific mons
So no Garchomp, Blaziken, Gengar, or Salamence getting it. They'll be stuck holding an item for Megas
