I wonder if those event poketch apps will be given away this time around
There were three of them, the first was the Match Up Checker
This was given away in DP...in Japan only....to celebrate the US release of DP...????
Platinum, all versions, could obtain this in-game by catching 5 Pokemon in the Great Marsh. Since this was by far the most useful of the apps (it let you compare 2 pokemon for breeding compatibility) that's probably why it got put into Platinum
The second was the Stopwatch
This was never released, anywhere.

Ok look I get that BDSP has had some questionable marketing choices but a very obvious piece of tie-in merch having an inaccurate team for the most important boss fight in the game would just be something else
EDIT: Checked myself, rn this is Pokemon Center's hot new item they're pushing on the front page, and it's not part of a line with other Champion team Switch cases either.

I looked up the company credited with this. They make accessories for a lot of things, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers, so this is merch outsourced to a company that doesn't have close ties with Nintendo or GF or whatever. Wouldn't surprise me if they were just told to make a case with Cynthia's team on it, Googled "Pokémon Cynthia team", saw Togekiss, and just went with it. I'm still decently optimistic about them including Platinum teams or at least removing the particularly egregious shit like Flint's original team, but this really is a stretch.
They also avoid mentioning BDSP entirely and this is just merchandise being made by an acessory company that probably had the license and is just releasing something to be roughly in step with a sinnoh release.
if they had specifically, blatantly had this BDSP branded and specifically called for it to be tied to those games that would be one thing. But it isn't.
Look I'm just going to put my cards on the table here: all they have to do, literally the only thing, is show one (1) of these things:
-an enemy trainer using a Platinum pokemon
-an enemy trainer using some other, non-Platinum, but different Pokemon
-an enemy trainer having literally any difference at all from their DP set, in general
-A wild encounter that is not from the DP encounter tables AND ALSO is not underground
If they do this, then I am willing to entertain that the Luxray & Abomasnow are misdirection.
until that happens though, I am going to assume based on what we've seen: That the above ground encounter tables & trainer battles use their DP counterparts.
I doubt that the contracted company had to look up and take the images off of Google, it is way more likely that those were included with the design specifications from TPCi.
With that said, it does seem like a stretch that this would actually confirm Cynthia's team in BDSP, but hope springs eternal.
You said it yourself: It may not literally have "Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl" plastered on it, but the reason they are releasing this specific merchandise at this specific time is patently obvious. I agree the actual marketing for the core game is weirdly obfuscating about it, but we've already established ILCA or whatever marketing firm they hire does not know how to advertise a videogame and they've shown enough Platinum dex mons that it's good enough for me. I cannot believe for the life of me that they would give CONTEST NPCS stuff like Rhyperior and Altaria but saddle Flint with Lopunny

Like AmbientDinosaur said, I doubt they had to rely on Google anyway, but assuming they did they would've had to decide between DP or Platinum team based on the first results being weirdly mixed. No matter what, SOMEONE at TPC would've had to provide the company a final call on which team is more representative of the release it's accompanying.
I'll leave it at this: my theory is that what they'll do for later bosses is give them Platinum teams but with their DP aces (So for instance Candice will have her Platinum team just with Abomasnow as the highest-level mon instead of Froslass). If Flint shows up with his meme team I'll take the L and move on.

And when they have a Bidoof that only exists in DP and present Abomasnow & Luxray as ace Pokemon and have gruntst that don't line up with Platinum and don't show any of the Platinum pokemon in the wild above ground, I can for the life of me believe that the side content gets to do whatever it wants but the main game above ground content does not.
The side content of which has been the ones primarily with the actual new things for this remake. The trainer can do whatever the hell they want, including new skin colors and light customization options and pokemon from the underground. The underground gets to do whatever the hell it wants, it's not the overworld. The super contests also got the overhaul. The Amity Square, for some reason, became the place to make poffins so even THAT has an inexplicable excuse to show platinum(the starters)/postgame(shroomish, torchic, jigglypuff) mons.
If I'm wrong, great! They did the bear minimum and just did a bad job of showing as such, but it will be legitimately nice to be wrong on this aspect.
They'll probably have another round of trailers within the next ... wow 23 days? Crazy. So there's still time. Plus reviews might mention or show something before it's out. But at this juncture, where all the main game stuff continues to follow this trend, I find it hard to believe and one piece of merch isn't enough.
That's a really good sign, but I'm waiting for 100% solid proof. There's still a worrying ton of sighs about how faithful they want to be to DP. It's enough to change my mind about this though.
A gif won't be enough if they show Cynthia's Platinum team and end up with DP teams. There's a scene from the parody Final Fantasy VII Machinabridged where a news guy says to make fun of someone with #YouHad1Job. I'll post the video and timestamp instead and never let them live down Flint's team until at least the end of Gen 10!
To be fair, pretty much every new generation of Pokemon games has been considered a soft reboot of the franchise haha.
But yeah, it is true that SwSh lacked any NPCs from past games, which made me a little sad, especially since SM and USUM had a ton of cameos from characters like Looker, Anabel, Colress, Red, etc. I think they are relegating character cameos to Pokemon Masters / Journeys since both feature a boatload of them.
Damn, Cynthia has a team of 6 Charizards in the remakes? ILCA knows what the fans want lmao.
NGL, seeing some of these fan-made teams makes me a bit sad that we won't have another Pokemon game with the full national dex. One of the most exciting things about these remakes and sequels for me was seeing what new Pokemon the old characters would make use of in their rematch teams. Like back when BW2 just came out, it was extremely cool to see Lance use Pokemon like Hydreigon and Haxorus, or Steven use Excadrill, since it just "made sense" for them to use those Pokemon.
This game doesn't know what it wants to be. Faithful, yet, makes EXP-Share manatory. TMs are working like TRs.
Such a shame, I really dislike Gen 4 but there was potential in the remakes. Why don't they just release Platinum for the Switch with the Events being unlocked after the post game or something.

I was looking for differences between the regional trailers, there's not much since most of the shots are dialogueless/universal but the Japanese/Korean trailers have a short zoom in before talking to Cyrus and the German trailer uniquely shows the back of chibi Cyrus's head which means it's a bit further into the same scene.
All the other trailers actually show a couple frames of the original shot during the transition and it's most obvious in the German trailer going frame by frame. Also this might just be me, but it seems like near the end of the scene in the other trailers (not in this post) the game footage starts getting slowed down and reversed to add time.

You can see part of Cyrus's walking/turning animation in the Chinese trailer.
All the other trailers actually show a couple frames of the original shot during the transition and it's most obvious in the German trailer going frame by frame. As mentioned, that's Legends: Arceus.
That being said, however, what this game doesn't have is Ranked Battles. Official VGC and BSS battles will remain in SwSh, this game will not be the official competitive metagame for official VGC play.
There's a new commercial up on the Italian Nintendo youtube channel really playing up the nostalgia factor.
This shows Candice using a L38 Snover matching her DP team and also Cyrus's intro pose.
EDIT: A bit of a reach but there might be a HP bar drain speed option or it's still related to raw HP, as the Pikachu using Thunderbolt killed the wild Floatzel in 8 frames, but Chimchar using Fire Spin only does a bit over half health in 14 frames.
Also the Cyrus battle being the first one could mean that Weavile is indeed in the first battle if the trailer used footage from this point as well.

Honestly I'd be fine with Flint's team if they just replace Lopunny. Drifblim and Steelix are definitely weird as hell picks but they do relate to fire in some way. Drifblim is a hot-air balloon, and Steel relates to welding and stuff I guess
I hope they didn't include Lopunny for the reason I think they included it
Oh this is gonna be good...and if they stay as faithful to DP as I think they will, there won't be any Gym Leader or Elite Four rematches to rectify the mistake.
