Pokemon Scarlet & Violet - 18th Nov 2022! **OFFICIAL INFO ONLY**

Rest nerfed from 10 PP to 5 PP

Apparently it also seems to confirm that the STAB bonus to Same Type Teras is double. So how does the Smogon community feel about that? Still an "insta-ban" kinda thing?
I think most people have already accepted that "istaban" thing is just a overreaction tbh.

I am also very intrigued by the new TM system. Feels like an acceptable compromise between TM and TRs: "easy to get" TMs can likely just be quickly grinded out in materials from wild pokemon (without even doing anything, just sending out pokemon to battle), meanwhile the most powerful ones will require LPs (am i playing League again?) which I'd assume you will gain from the storyes and then prolly postgame activities.

Also, the video pretty much implies there'll be shenenigans at work with the Team Star battles as we expected.

So we get some elaboration on gameplay mechanics, especially how wild battling works.

And Girafarig evolution...its name is Farigaraf! Long overdue, the mon finally got the evolved form it deserves!

And Pokemon Picnic is the Pokemon Amie equivalent for this game. And it seems breeding/egg spawning is merged with the Picnic mechanic this time around, and they're bringing back cleaning/washing from Refresh in Gen 7, sounds pretty fun!

And the new TM system is...intriguing to say the least.

Hopefully we learn a bit more as we head closer to release.

Nah being able to randomly bust out an adapt-boosted STAB of the type best suited to break opposing cores is gonna be absolute ass to play against and make bulkier squads (that arent hard stall) essentially unviable. Flyspam and builds like that will be an absolute scourge and probably very unfun to play against. Feels like Z-Lures/Gems on a whole new level of crazy imo

So which TMs do you think these are? 12 looks like either Low Kick or Low Sweep, 16 seems obviously like Psybeam, 19 seems like Disarming Voice, 13 looks very much like Metal Claw, and 130 is 100% Helping Hand. Not sure what 10, 15, and 40 could be though.

Edit:

You already have to be that typing to get the Adaptability boost though, so it isn't like that bit couldn't be seen coming from Team Preview.

10's Ice Fang, I think 15 is Struggle Bug

Speaking of which the Chinese trailer's item listed a specific pokemon for it lol

One random positive note...

The graphics have definitely improved over SwSh.
Still nowhere near Xenoblade or Bayonetta or even SMTV bear in mind, but that grass does look pretty slick instead of the disaster that SwSh was...

We've been over this already, you don't "randomly teralyze". The typing has to be preselected before the match. I don't recall people complaining about "randomly having Hidden Power to hit the enemy 4x weakness", in fact last I checked people got mad when this versatility got removed :>
And it's a one of. You won't have 6 flying types. You will have *one*, and if you want multiple Terabeams, you will have a dead moveslot on half of your team.
Why would they nerf rest? Is not a popular move, it would only make sense if we are getting PLA sleep mechanics, but I really doubt that.
Most likely cause they hate stall and Rest is a move used in timer stall maneuvers in BSS.

If I was to guess it's that it can stall for 48 turns in a row. Let's be realistic, if you use Rest more than 2-3 times in a match you're probably using it to PP stall.

Granted this isn't broken by any means but Gamefreak also gave the Strong Jaw fish a 255 base power STAB move so we know how good they are at balance.

Edit: This actually might lend some credibility to the theory that Legends Arceus Sleep mechanics are in S/V!

Had it pointed out to me that the UI here is hiding another pokemon
some people think its the same bug that gives the silk, but its hard to tell anything for sure

Honestly it's in that dead zone for me where its like

improved, for sure

but also it's not so improved that it doesnt jsut look...really ugly. The pop in is real bad, the textures are...also pretty bad in a lot of spots, the frame rate on the Pokemon is comical in spots.

To be fair, if their plan was to murder stall teams, you can't say that Dracovish doesn't do it well, so you could say they were very successful in their endeavor :psysly:

I think it mostly murdered balance and offense, because the tiny handful of things that KIND OF could switch in on FR were things like Toxapex, Gastrodon etc. Early 8th gen was a nightmare of Pex / Clef / Corv.

Now if their goal was to murder stall...

Although counter point, Quagsire.

Crazy to compare this to the 60 BP Hidden Power and not Gems (literally banned in BWOU) lmao

and by fly spam I meant stacking 2-3 offensive fliers, each with a tera type that can easily delete resists (such as fire or fighting torn-t with boosted coverage, etc). Once the primary resist is removed by a surprise adapt stab its not hard to win from there!
