i feel like without tera itll be either RUBL or UU by usage. i think garganacl by itself has too many good traits to be dragged so far down by its rock typing so i cant see it being RU. also can it not beat all three of those pokemon w/ the right tera type? if you run tera water for gholdengo or a different tera for ogerpon-W then you can choose which one you can sit on and chip w/ salt cure, unless gholdengo is running covert cloak

Garg is broken. Make no mistake about it. Its usage is low because the meta titans right now force the Tera commitment. When they get banned Garg will become a problem. Unless we address the elephant in the room.

on a more serious note, do you guys think banning gliscor would drastically improve landorus-T? i find lando to be very solid still, and the VR echoes this belief. but even then its at a low point it hasnt experienced since ORAS OU iirc and even then i think it was still better in ORAS than it is now. how much of it do yall think is part in due to gliscor having a stranglehold on the metagame and do you think banning it would bring landorus back to where it was pre-DLC?

weird, I was under the impression that garganacl would return to OU now that ursaluna blood moon got banned.

I guess this must be because there are 15 pokemon on the tier that can hit it super effectively with STAB.
Garg's issue is that it is a bit too passive (or rather, the structures its good on are a bit too passive), which is not a good trait in this metagame. It thankfully does solid vs Gholdengo with Tera, but gets owned by other passive punishers like Ogerpon and Manaphy, which is not ideal, though those guys thankfully can't safely switch in. Most Garg need to run Boots in this meta due to Spikes being common and it having bad defensive synergy with most of the common Hazard removal barring Corv, who still works fine enough, but is also fairly passive.

I still think Garg is a good Pokemon, and it has some new tech it can run like Tera Flying Curse Block to destroy Gliscor or Curse Heavy Slam to beat Clefable, but it can be hard to build a good Garganacl team that isn't also extremely passive.

Sinistcha-Masterpiece @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Matcha Gotcha
- Strength Sap
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball

Someone in the OU room (was it a moderator? maybe) was posting ladder battles and this foul asf set showed up.

+1 Def Sinistcha with max def investment can tank just about anything physically and hit them with a Strength Sap, and Matcha Gotcha means that almost everything will regret existing. Tusk has to get it Terrain off the field before Sinistcha gets in, Poltergeist mons straight up just lose the video game, Cinderace can do approximately nothing, it's fucking hilarious.

252 Atk Protosynthesis Great Tusk Headlong Rush vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Steel Sinistcha: 236-282 (68.2 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Cinderace Pyro Ball vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Heatproof Tera Steel Sinistcha: 84-102 (24.2 - 29.4%) -- 99.4% chance to 4HKO
+6 252 Atk+ Ceruledge Poltergeist vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Steel Sinistcha: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 252 Atk Protosynthesis Roaring Moon Earthquake vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Tera Steel Sinistcha: 206-244 (59.5 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (lol)

Once the ball gets rolling, Sinistcha becomes the most threatening pokemon with only 2 weaknesses after Tera, both of which are almost only seen as physical moves (unless they're a coverage option, like on Enamorous, which can still be stopped by Calm Mind boosts) It's great! I like it a lot and it's a nice matchup check to slow teams that rely on Tusk/Cinderace to handle steel types.

No idea what'd pair well with this, but anything that can give better defensive situations for Sinistcha is nice. Might try experimenting with Dual Screens or Veil.

well its nice until you get confused by hurricane outside of rain then hit yourself twice in a row then it sucks
this is actually diabolical, grassy terrain is straight up better than most weather

You know, it would be hilarious to see Gliscor be unbanned for being buffed. It being a reliable defogger itself.
I kind of wish Gliscor would be banned specifically for this scenario alone.
If Gli, and only Scor, got defog in DLC2 without being banned beforehand, would it be broken or would it be glue

I don't know if it will affect much, honestly. Lando is okay at setting rocks and has Intimidate. It doesn't have Gliscor's recovery or ability to run Spikes/TSpikes as well, or even options like Knock off. Even though they're similar with the same typing, Gliscor is just on paper capable of so much more that I don't think it's possible for Lando to take over or mimic its role. The movepool cuts have pigeonholed Lando into just a few specific roles. Capable roles, but still.

Drastically? Nah, I don't think so. Despite Lando-T still being a good Rocks setter, Gliscor is on a whole different level in terms of match progression. I would compare it more to the defensive Lando sets of the previous gens, back when it still had Toxic and Knock Off, both of which significantly improved its utility. Now Lando is simply outmatched by other popular Ground-types that fit a better niche in the meta, depending on what you need. If you want a good Hazard setter you'd probably pick Gliscor (obv), Tusk or Ting-Lu over it, since they have more options in their arsenal (Tusk is the best Spinner in the meta, Gliscor is broken with Toxic and Spikes, and Ting-Lu has Spikes and Ruination which automatically makes it a good pick). I think Lando would be drastically better IF it still had both Defog and Knock Off in its movepool, since it would be able to hit Dengo hard and it could also set up Rocks. Hell, I'd say it would even be in the top 5. Right now, I just personally don't feel like using it as much as before, so I guess we'll have to wait and see if the DLC gives it something nice.

Honestly probably more like glue.
Spikes Gliscor can’t really do much against Defog Gliscor besides hope to Knock Off Toxic Orb before activation. And Gholdengo can only Tera Flying to stop Gliscor from Defogging as it can KO with Earthquake.

I was using Tera Poison, Steel seems better.

Sad for my boy :(

I've been using this set :
Empoleon @ Expert Belt
Ability: Competitive
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Agility

It's really been working for me as an impromptu gliscor check/late-game sweeper, but I'll also try anything to make my boy feel fun to use.

And the Dengo suspect will still not happen
