Male is also a lot easier to breed/catch for most pokemon.

But it's this statistical regularity that makes them abusable by charm-effects.

The good news is that charm effects are generally weak, and rarely used... but it'd suck to be kicked out of, say, the VGC because someone infatuated your male Gyarados, for example.
