I transfered a copy of it to my HG to nickname it and it showed up in heavy ball.
The data of the pokemon doesnt change =).

Platinum just doesnt have those extra pokeballs programmed in. So it shows up as a regular pokeball.
If you are using Platinum, the ball my onyx is caught in will be shown as Poke ball.
Platinum doesnt have those poke balls programmed in.
But if you transfer it to Heart Gold/Soul Silver, it should appear as Heavy Ball.
