lol bobby zamora.

walcott should be played as a striker upfront, thats his best position.

Zamora is an outstanding player and consistent to boot...his England chance is long overdue.

And cmon Havak, we both know Welbeck and Sturridge are essentially the same player.

Walcott has questionable finishing abilities and is absolute dead weight against any team that defends deep. He'll shred teams with a high line though.

Sturridge spent the last half season with Bolton playing in a strike partnership, so he should be able to handle a partnership with Rooney.

And yes, let Theo rampage a bit as a striker instead of a winger for a bit, see how he does. If he could develop a game with a bit more emphasis on dropping deep to support play instead of being a mere poacher, then maybe he could be less shit against deeper lines. Cmon Theo, go ask RVP for some tips.

England tonight.

I get the feeling Capello will show how small his balls are yet again and pick Parker, Barry, and Lampard in midfield. Rooney as a lone striker despite taking five strikers with him, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Milner will even start on the wing, with Downing or Young on the other.

It'd probably get a draw or sneak a win, but I'd prefer to see another striker in place of Average Barry.

Well this is the team I think will roll out tonight:

---------------Hart----------------
---Jones--Terry---Jagielka--Cole----
Milner-- Lampard-- Parker-- Young
-------------Rooney---------------
-------------Zamora---------------

Rooney in the 'hole', Welbeck will probably start in a standard 4-4-2 but I'd really like to see Zamora again.

Yeah, Dan, I'd like to see something similar to that. I'm sure Rooney will start, I honestly don't care which striker would start ahead of him since I think he can link up well with all of them - I'd rather see any of the four strikers start over Barry. Maybe Downing over Milner, but I think Richards might start at right back over Jones and Cahill over Jagielka.

Expected team:

Hart
Richards Cahill Terry Cole
Parker Barry
Milner Lampard Downing
Rooney

Wanted team:

Hart
Jones Terry Cahill Cole
Parker Lampard
Walcott Rooney Young
Welbeck

At least if the first team starts, the subs could be:

Walcott > Milner
Young > Downing
Welbeck > Barry

because zamora's way better imo (and also is a former brighton player and the more of them that play internationally the better :P). Zamora will probably also have a lot of confidence since he played superbly in a 6-0 win over a derby rival.

out of interest what is the reason for defoe being out of the squad? he's a player that always seems to play well for england, no matter how well he's doing at club level and I think the squad would be much better with him in it :/

I know he isn't in the squad Havak;thats what i'm trying to highlight. It should be him instead of Bobby.

Hmm, it is an interesting question. However, if we're going to run on the basis that Capello likes to have different kinds of strikers, if the choice was between Defoe and Bent, for me it's Bent every time. Regarding strikers who always seem to perform well at International level regardless of club performance there's also Peter Crouch. His goal scoring record for England is better than Wayne Rooney's for example. But he's never going to be sure of making the squad either.

There are plenty of strikers for England, lots of good ones. But at this moment in time the only great one IMO is Wayne Rooney. Everyone else is in a somewhat similar bracket, but I'd probably pick them in this kind of method (taking the youth approach into account):

Rooney
Sturridge
Welbeck
Bent > Defoe
Crouch > Carroll > Zamora

However, depending on the strength of the midfield up for selection, I'd maybe even be tempted to drop a striker and pick Walcott as the fifth striker / winger.

Also, lastly there's Agbonlahor. He's incredibly quick and up until last season he upped his scoring record for Aston Villa every season. However, he's very injury prone so I'd still be inclined to go with Darren Bent.

Confirmed team:

Hart; Jones, Terry, Cahill, Cole; Walcott, Parker, Barry, Young; Bent, Rooney

Kick off 8pm (GMT+1/UK time)

Hart
Jones Cahill Terry Cole
Parker Barry
Walcott Rooney Young
Bent

Wow, I am surprised that Capello has shown some courage for once! But he's still gone with the Parker + Barry defensive core.

Pretty disappointed with that line up tbh..... there's no reason not to give Zamora a run out tonight ahead of Bent.. And Cahill still in there despite Bolton shipping goals like no one's business.......and fucking Barry (he's had a good start for City but still)

walcott in the squad

walcott in the first XI

walcott on the wing

jones out of position at rb instead of micah richards

capello is crap

Yo, Cahill's our best player, it's the rest of the team (especially the other defenders) who are playing crap atm. Cahill>Jagielka imo. And what's wrong with Gareth Barry, eh?

EDIT: w a t c h t h e g a m e h e r e, shhhh

EDIT 2: 1-0, 10 mins in, Ashley Young scored, from a header, ~2 yards out, perfect cross by someone, Walcott I think, easy goal.

Two good, simple goals thus far.

Rooney > Walcott > Young
Rooney > Young > Bent

Front four working well together.

^ Lol.

England standing off at the very end and concede after controlling the game completely. Typical England xD

Rooney with a silly moment and gets sent off.

England seem to be shooting themselves in the foot.
