2011 Music

just snagged turmion kätilöt's perstechnique and within temptation's the unforgiving (which leaked, apparently). the latter is pretty good and is basically a natural progression from the heart of everything; the former needs a few more listens yet.

so i was listening to this ^ when i read thom yorke is also collaborating with DOOM aaaaaah

im a fucking huge doom fan and its definitely starting to look like well see something new from him this year. also radiohead are alright. yeah, they're pretty good too.

(thom yorke is such a collaboration slut)

Listening to the leak now. One of my most anticipated albums this year and it's living up to the expectations!

new tesseract has leaked, listening now.

edit: ok it's pretty solid. sorta annoying that concealing fate is stuck in the middle between all of the new material but other than that it's good. needs a few more listens though.

W.A.R. is amazing.

I listened to Angles, and wasn't expecting much... but I was really impressed. prolly my favourite album from The Strokes

^ I enjoyed TEINCDP more, this one kinda bored me but it was still a solid release.

For some fucking epic psychedelic post-rock, grails new album deep politics has absolutely blown me away...

I've got to say, Lasers did not live up to my expectations on my first playthrough. Maybe I just thought too highly of it, I don't know. Anyone else feel the same way? W.A.R. however, is pretty fucking great. It's been bumping non-stop for me.

downloaded WAR on reccomendation from this thread, and it's fantastic :D anyone tell me more about phaoroahe monche? how does this stack up against the guy's other stuff?
that king crimson sample on grand illusion caught me off guard too, haha. liking this a lot.

and on the topic of great new hip-hop, everyone should check out reks' rhythmic eternal king supreme. amazing album, has production from guys like dj premier and pete rock. 25th hour is the track of the year so far for sure, produced my dj premier and he completely kills it. also amazing video, everyone needs to watch this.

I'd just listen to both Internal Affairs (1999) and Desire (2007), his only full lengths besides WAR. Both (especially Internal Affairs) are actually even more critically acclaimed than the latter.

I personally havent listened to a lot of 2011 lately (still listened to pretty many releases, though).

and fuck yes new Burial

I'd probably go with Internal Affairs over Desire, tbh. Desire was good don't get me wrong, but it just wasn't on the same level as Internal Affairs, in my opinion.

I actually hadn't listened to WAR yet because it I saw it got some average reviews. I guess I'll have to listen to it now.

I decided to listen to this on a whim because I had read a story about how they were forced to change their name from Black Robots to BL_CK R_B_TS because of another similarly named band Black Robot (who I've never listened to). It's really awesome lo-fi alt rock. The band released the album free, download is in the link.

New Explosions in the Sky is far from typical for them. "Let Me In" "Postcard From 1952" and "Trembling Hands" are legitimtely some of the best songs of 2011.

If you liked WAR, you should give Internal Affairs a spin. Great album, and everyone knows Simon Says [they just don't know that they know... get it?]. Desire is alright, I think I'd rank it as his "worst" but it's definitely not a bad album.

if you like Internal Affairs, you should listen to some Organized Konfusion which was a duo of Monch and Prince Po

new Blackfield has just finally leaked

on first listen I was slightly disappointed because I had extremely high expectations for it due to the first two albums being two of my absolute most favourite albums ever.. but on second and third listens so far I actually think it measures up pretty well two their previous albums

speaking of Steven Wilson projects, as announced by him on facebook, his collaboration album with Mikael Akerfeldt is going to get released only sometime in early 2012 :/

but on the other hand, the release date for new Opeth might get announced any day now

'stolen dog' from the new burial ep is so fucking beautiful. god damn :(

as far as the other two tracks, 'street halo' is really dark and pulsey and a lot more upbeat than past stuff. 'nyc' isn't doing much for me, though, it's fairly unremarkable.

as a whole it all bodes well for an upcoming album. the guy seems to have expanded his musical palette a bit (id say those four tet collaborations have rubbed off on him some), and as a producer he definitely seems to have stepped up, too.

and 'stolen dog' for track of the year, holy shit :( those sampled voices seem he pulls in every now and then are even more lonely and beautiful than the stuff he sampled on untrue. every time they play its just fucking beautiful ;(

Actually I love Lasers. Right now I've pretty much put it on repeat. Gonna get tired of it. But hey I thought it was awesome. Not sure whether it was worth the wait though. I love W.A.R. so amazing. Got me listening to more Monch.
