2011 Music

I'm not really looking foward for anything atm. Since everything I was waiting for already came out. Like the D-Block and S-Te-Fan album it's amazing anyone that listens to EDC should give it a try.

Ok, so I just listened to a new song by a band called Unexpect which I had never heard of before, and it really blew me away. Apparently they have a new album coming out this year sometime, and now I'm really excited for it. I don't how I would describe the sound of this band, it's all over the place, so I guess its just best to link the song itself and let you all listen.

Lupe Fiasco's Lasers is out today; liking what i've heard on it so far (which isn't much, just a couple songs). Anyone else listening to it yet / have the album?

More excited for Food & Liquor 2 though, which I hear is much more his product than that of his label, from his own words

I popped the CD in on my way to work this morning. It's a short trip so I only got to the halfway point of track 3. Words I Never Said is tight. I would love a follow up to F&L that had that same feel that F&L had. There's just a certain magic that album had that no rap album I've listened to since has had.

posting to say cant wait for Goblin. even though no Earl, Yonkers has me pumped already. These kids are insane.

After a few chore-like listens, Lasers is the worst thing Lupe Fiasco has ever done. Sucks pretty hard.

This. Half the songs feel identical. The only ones that stand out are Words I Never Said, State Run Radio, The Show Goes On, and All Black Everything. And only Words is any good. Show would be impress me if it was by someone who hadn't already set my expectations as high as he has.

lupe has had numerous interviews where he has shit all over atlantic and said they pretty much held his album hostage. they controlled the production and what kind of stuff he had to put out. with that in mind, it's really no big shocker that lasers feels subpar and forced -- it was.

some decent mixtapes have dropped this year, fortune family's tape is pretty dope, and the dean's list is listenable at the very least. if you're looking for hip hop substance, the dean's list isnt the first place i'd look but you'll find some decent tracks.

i'm pumped for yelawolf honestly. since he's signed to shady records, the songs he has been featuring on have been getting better and better. supposedly they're going to be doing an album with em, slaughterhouse, yela, and the rest of the shady records/g unit/aftermath crew. i'd love to hear all of them over dre and alchemist beats.

goblin and watch the throne are gimmes for hype this year. odd future is getting as much hype as b.o.b did in his first couple of years. they'll both be quality, no doubt, as hov and kanye are both perfectionists. kanye west has one of the best pure ears for music in the game, outside of dr dre. yeah, ham sucked, but the first single for any project always seem to be huge letdowns.

chiddy bangs swelly life is an album i'm looking forward to, but i'm hoping i am not disappointed by too many tracks showing up on there that i've already heard. i know opposite of adults is a good song, but i'm tired of it popping up on every mixtape they have! can't fault them for putting it on the preview though.

also late, but commenting on mf doom being best rapper of the past decade. ehhhhh, he's really good, and a great emcee, but he can't touch eminem, mr. west, or outkast. you can even include the game in that category as he's had some really solid efforts over the past ten years. ten years is a long time in the music biz, especially hip hop, where artists seem to pump out new music every week just to stay relevant.

also late again, but lupe has already said food and liquor 2 is half done, to whoever above me was wishing for more f&l flavor instead of atlantic fucking lupe in the asshole.

tl;dr, any hip hop head already knows anything ive typed

My thoughts exactly, although I like the first verse in The Show Goes On. But yeah, really isn't that deep or anything like that. And State Run Radio sounded better live before the studio messed with the sound. Kinda disappointed considering how much I was looking forward to this =/

Have to agree with the disappointment on lasers
On better news Dom Kennedy's mixtape was pretty good and I'm enjoying Mac Miller's mixtape so far which just dropped!

Listening to Angles as we speak, up to the seventh song. As someone who never really listened to much Strokes, I'm really enjoying this album. Not too sure how it compares to their earlier stuff however.

Gotta say, I'm enjoying Angles as well. I think it's better than Room on Fire.

I wouldn't say that but its still a wicked album. Freshly downloaded means its still buzzing around my head like a bullet in a box

edit: hahahaha guys stop blaming Bush / Al Quaeda it was P Diddy.

Man I'm happy i'm seeing the Strokes on April 1st at MSG

Angles is great on the first listen, I'll probably listen to it a lot more on my 6 hour drive through Florida tomorrow.

Anyone get Childish Gambino's EP? I gotta say, I'm liking it so far. Also, Travis Barker's Let the Dummer Get Some is pretty legit too.

Angles, has more than made up for First Impressions of Earth. It's still not completely on-par with Room on Fire, but still amazing. As Flounder's friend put so eloquently:

<Flounder> my friend put it as: "Is This It with bits of 'the 1980s' throughout"
<Flounder> it is a good album

And I couldn't agree more!

My morals prevent me from downloading the Angles leak. Just kidding I haven't yet because it was taken off mediafire.

Absolutely positively can't wait for it though. Under Cover of Darkness was fantastic. :)

Acquiring Angles as I type this...

The only other album of theirs I listened to was Room on Fire which was pretty good, and a couple songs off of whatever album came after. The leader singer's solo album sucked imo though.

I'm also giving Rival Schools' Pedals. I randomly found the album on iTunes and previewed it, liked the previews, and downloaded it. Pretty cool.

angles is excellent; machu pichu, you're so right, taken for a fool and metabolism standout tracks.

alex turner released a 6 song soundtrack on monday for the upcoming film submarine. (directorial debut from richard ayoade of the it crowd)
was particularly impressed by this release, the acoustic songs really showcase his lyrical prowess, especially for the brick by brick naysayers.
i'd recommend stuck on the puzzle for a taster of the album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQSHj4rLBMU
