Researcher
researcher.png

  • Maintain threads related to research by setting areas of focus, asking guiding questions, and indexing results for easy review.
  • Ensure that the information on the site is up to date with our current knowledge, including adding new articles if needed, such as for new damage formula discoveries or other common battle mechanics.
  • Assist in the improvement of our simulator by submitting in-game mechanics research.
  • Recommend people who contribute substantively to in-game research for the Researcher badge. This badge is permanent and traditionally "low volume". Research efforts are usually concentrated around new game releases, but past gen research is equally valuable.
  • Top Researcher(
    researcher_top.gif.m.1
) is awarded to users who provide consistent and numerous contributions to in-game research throughout a generation and/or whose work has had a major impact on our understanding of in-game mechanics.

Programmer
programmer.png

The Programmer Badge recognizes users that make significant valuable programming contributions to the site or community. For users that aspire to earning a Programmer Badge -- the Smogon site and forum framework is not conducive to allowing non-Admins to make programming changes, and the Programmer Badge does not confer low-level access to Smogon technical resources like the site content management system or the forum system. Most programming contributions by non-Admins must be made through independent individual work and program distribution.

Users with the Programmer Badge typically will have made programming contributions that fall into one of the following categories:

  • A "Major Contribution" -- A significant programming contribution written from scratch that takes months of work and is used by a large number of users. Past examples of major contributions are battle simulators, the Smogon damage calculator, and the Smogon quote database. One major contribution is typically sufficient to earn a Programmer Badge.

  • An "Ongoing Contribution" -- Significant programming or technical administration work that requires a large amount of effort over a long period of time. Typically, this involves the writing and continued maintenance of a program or system. Past examples are collecting and maintaining battle usage stats, battle server administration at the system level, and community forum upkeep and administration at the system level. After a prolonged period of "ongoing contributions", a Programmer Badge may be awarded.

  • A "Minor Contribution" -- Battle server scripts, utilities for specific functions (like a warstory formatter, etc.), database queries or jobs, forum PHP scripts, etc. If a programmer makes numerous minor contributions over a extended period of time, a Programmer Badge may be awarded. This category of contribution is highly subjective, and is not intended to recognize users that do lots of trivial tasks simply to get a programming badge.

The Programmer Badge typically will not recognize "technical work" that does not involve programming, like writing HTML pages, adding Javascript to site pages, using pseudo-programming utilities to make content, etc.

Update to Contributor
contributor.png

  • Contributes to the site with good quality and quantity. This includes, but is not limited to: writing analyses and/or articles, Grammar Prose submissions, Quality Control checks, and providing HTML/CSS for articles or the site.
  • Quality supersedes quantity when awarding the badge. Users that have contributed a lot but have low quality can still be awarded the badge, but a larger amount of contributions are needed.
  • Many miscellaneous projects not already covered under the scope of the Smogon Media badge also can be awarded with the Contributor badge.
  • Top Contributor (
    contributor_top.gif
) is awarded to those who have gone above and beyond contributing to the site, meeting the requirements for Contributor 2,5 times over.

Update to Site Content Manager
sitestaff.png

  • Site Content Manager is given out on an as-needed basis. This means those users running a project or a section of the site that's not already covered by another user are eligible, but those that are already covered by another user are not necessarily.
  • Users must show a baseline understanding of, as appropriate to the needs of the project they're in charge of, HTML/CSS, Markdown, YAML, and/or the Smogon CMS to be eligible for the badge. The edits made by Site Content Managers show up directly on the site, so it's important that errors are caught and fixed immediately when caching occurs.
  • Users must be able to identify and fix integrity errors on the CMS.
  • Users must be trusted members of the community. Site Content Managers wield a lot of power with the ability to edit anything onsite directly; those that are not trusted cannot be Site Content Managers.
  • Users must be an active contributor to a section of the site to be eligible for the Site Content Manager badge.
  • Site Content Manager alumnus is awarded to those who effectively served in the position they were given Site Content Manager for.

Update to Pre-Contributor / Ladybug
ladybug.png

Pre-Contributor can be rewarded as an easy-to-gain sign of appreciation to those users that do good, active work under the scope of other contribution badges. Again, the badge is an activity badge and is removed in low periods of activity or complete inactivity. The above still applies as well; this is for those that contribute consistently and with good work but simply have not reached the level of contribution needed for the full contributor badge.
  • Pre-Contributor is a badge given to those users that have shown dedication to the site through a wide array of contributions.
  • Pre-Contributor is completely non-permanent, meaning the badge will be removed when activity of the user drops.
  • Pre-Contributor is usually used as a means to gauge a user's attitude in the larger community and commitment to the site. Users that display poor behavior will have the badge removed regardless of volume of contributions.
  • Pre-Contributor is usually a stepping stone to another badge. When the user meets the quality and quantity needed for another badge it will replace the Pre-Contributor badge.

Introducing the CAP Contributor
cap.png

  • CAP Contributor is given out to users that participate in the competitive aspects of the Create-A-Pokemon Project. For non-competitive contributions, a Community Contributor and/or Artist Badge is more appropriate.
  • CAP Contributor is given out to competitive contributors that have led the community. The positions of Topic Leader (TL) and Topic Leadership Team (TLT) are grounds for consideration for the badge, but not necessarily guaranteed. Furthermore, the badge is not exclusive to those titles; those who contribute to leading discussion as a competitive voice of reasons will be considered.
  • CAP Contributor is given out to users that are well respected in the community. They are focused on the community aspects of CAP, and do not attempt to control a project as individuals. They follow the rules and do not thread hog.
  • CAP Contributor is a prestigious badge, meaning that it will not be given out lightly. Competitive contributions for this badge must be significant. Users who wear this badge emulate the best of the CAP community; these users have made a lasting mark on the project as positive, competitive leaders.
  • CAP Contributor is awarded at the discretion of the CAP Contributor Badge Leader(s). Those who wish to be considered for the badge may contact the Badge Leader(s) at any time.

  • CAP Contributor Alumnus is given out to CAP Contributors that have gone inactive and remain in good standing with the community. Furthermore, the badge will be awarded to those who would have earned the badge in past years.

Update to the Tutor Badge
x2NEqxqlhAbRDcVhnPrxhw5L2Ip_cQevQqNe2w8tcXdMOa9akMgEE1JCxiU-kuRMOkBitbk22N9qGb3JyUO7cLYNmq8ttw9zxDrKYPRjM0YsmWCDIqcyl0GA0NO1yx_mDK1gfy2Q

  • This badge will be given to tutors who have received 16 tutor credits (About 4-5 positive evaluations from tutees). However, if a tutor receives poor evaluations prior to obtaining the 16 mark threshold, it is at the B101 Staff's discretion as to when the badge will be given.
    • Every two hour credits will count as one tutor credit.
      • Tutors are awarded hour credit if a pairing ends before the minimum benchmark of 8 hours and if the reasoning is out of the tutor's control. Battling 101 Staff also requires proof before awarding hour credit through logs and/or a Tutor Talk thread.
  • A positive evaluation is given based on the tutor evaluations filled out by tutees, which grade tutors based on their ability to help others with battling skills, team building / editing, as well as their overall effort in tutoring. Being nice to your tutee also helps, who would have thought. In the tutor spreadsheet, this is either an "A" (4 credits) or "B" (3 credits).
  • This is an activity based badge. After four months of inactivity, the badge will be stripped. Tutors may, however, earn it back with just one positive evaluation.
  • In addition to 1-on-1 tutoring, tutor credit is offered to, in no particular order: Tutor Talk threads (1 credit) and the Tutor of the Month award (1 credit).
  • For the Tutor Alumnus badge it's 32 tutor credits (about 8 positive evaluations) and 8 completed rounds are needed to obtain this badge. Battling 101 Staff automatically qualify for this badge once they retire.
It is worthy to note that with the old system of tutor evaluation, many tutees would simply fail to send in an evaluation, thus delaying the time needed to obtain tutoring badges. We have attempted to fix this by imposing a punishment system for any tutees who disappear or are unpleasant to work with. As long as tutors take the initiative to communicate to the B101 Staff of problems regarding their tutee, I believe that the increased amount of tutoring needed to obtain the badge is reasonable.

As for the Top Tutor Badge
Mz1PpmADSNke1YmOdz52Zp7hBZyK9sLsRZpyD5WwgqMx6pWWo4l9wXRrR4XzMOSZE-AqU-ZnfsMlwQH7jArO_jAFLiW22Z10PAHdXKV9dpRVmQOrARMFK2qjtwntY-U8ik7IBwZ8

  • Tutors must have received 48 tutor credits (about 12 positive evaluations). There are no round restrictions so any extra credit gained throughout the tutor's career will be counted here.
  • Alum version of the badge will automatically be awarded once the tutor retires.
  • Mods who don't initially receive Top Tutor upon receiving moderator will be given it once the amount of work is relatively equivalent to standards for Top Tutor.

Update to the Artist badge
artist.png

  • This badge is rewarded to users who have contributed a multitude of images to areas that require art of decent quality, such as competitive articles, social media, on-site guides, our Sprite project, or other areas of similar importance. The contributions required for the badge is judged case by case, where both the number of contributions and their overall quality are considered.
  • The artist must also be an approved artist before receiving this badge (some exceptions can occur, like sprite artists). If the user has contributed images before becoming approved, those contributions can be used as supporting material for rewarding the user with an artist badge either immediately or later in the future.
  • In summary, the art badge is rewarded to those who have contributed a considerable amount of images to the site, and has also shown enough skill to handle specific requests and create images of appropriate quality.
  • Top Artist (
    artist_top.gif.m.1
) is awarded to people who have contributed 20 illustrations for the needs of the site (articles, forum projects, banners).

Update to all official Battle Server related badges:

Sim Staff (Global Driver)
simdriver.png

  • The Sim Staff badge for Pokemon Showdown is given to users with the Global Driver (%) position. This is the first position within the global staff hierarchy, a group of staff members that are considered ambassadors to the sim and trusted with the ability to moderate any PS! room. Potential new additions are vetted by the global staff and are selected from the pool of Global Voices.
  • Being a trusted community member is essential. Candidates are therefore required to have a good standing/positive presence on Smogon and of course Pokemon Showdown. In addition to being equipped with global moderation commands, global staff routinely deal with sim policy and a wide variety of sensitive information related to the PS community.
  • Desirable staff characteristics typically include active chat leaders with solid communication skills, good moderation ability, and ability to productively work with others. While public room ranks (% / @ / #) do not guarantee a global promotion, making a strong presence throughout the rooms is the best way of getting your name out there.
  • Users may also be promoted for their technical contributions if it is deemed they would benefit from staff/upper staff access for implementation of policies. These are handled separately by Zarel and the rest of the tech Admin team.
  • Waiting time: 24 hours before promoting / badging.
  • Drivers will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by PS Admins with longevity and activity as staff being key factors in deciding if a user will receive the alumned version of the badge upon resigning.
Sim Moderator (Global Moderator)
simmod.png

  • With access to additional privileges (PS! forum moderation, IP access, etc.), much of the criteria for Moderator revolves around fulfilling the same values expected of a Driver, but to a much greater extent. Drivers have already had the opportunity to demonstrate how they are as authority figures, how trustworthy they are in handling policy/sensitive issues, how appropriately they deal out punishment, and how they interact with the users and fellow staff members. Drivers are therefore promoted to this position upon demonstrating these same qualities to an exceptional extent.
  • Smogon Super Moderators will be promoted to Moderator as part of cross-site promotion policy. Senior Staff can be promoted to PS Staff with involvement in PS moderation and policy.
  • Sim Moderator Alumnus will usually be awarded when a user retires from being a Mod. There are no contribution/duration requirements attached. It is not alumned for short-term inactivity--only for many months of minimal sim presence.
  • Waiting time: 24 hours before promoting / badging.
Sim Admin (Global Administrator)
simadmin.png

  • While the other PS positions are appointed based on moderation ability, Admins are promoted for policy involvement. It is given to experienced Moderators who have consistently shown maturity and skill in handling staff and policy matters. The criteria are intentionally vague as promotions are handled on a case-by-case basis, but all Admins are level-headed and trustworthy with good communication skills.
  • Potential new Sim Admins will be identified and evaluated by the current upper staff team.
  • Sim Admin Alumnus will usually be awarded when a user retires from being an Admin. There are no contribution/duration requirements attached.

Update to Tournament-related badges:

Tournament Director
td.png

Tournament Director (TD) is a staff badge, representing moderators that resolve tournament-related issues and that are responsible for the upkeep and management of the Tournaments section of the forum.

TD is given out on an as-needed basis, and has no specific quantity or time-based contribution goals attached. Consistent activity and dedicated investment in tournaments is valued highly, along with the following:

- Users must display general competence & understanding with regards to tournament rules, users, and culture
- Users must display an ability to function as a productive team member and as a role model for users
- Users must be trusted members of the community, as sensitive information is frequently involved in the decisionmaking process
- Users must display rational and nonpartisan decisionmaking in both the tournaments they host and in policy discussions

Community members who are interested in an evaluation of their progress toward the position are welcome to PM the Head TD with a brief list of their hosting/policy/tournaments involvement. Not all interested users can become a TD due to inherent issues with larger teams (greatly slowed decisionmaking being chief among them), but we would like to encourage & develop those who want to pursue that goal.

Community Contributor
cc.png

Under the Tournaments umbrella, Community Contributor is awarded to users that put an exceptional amount of work towards resources for the section. Both quantity, quality, and continued dedication towards keeping these resources updated in a timely fashion. Those that have earned Tournament Director can also earn Community Contributor for contributing to resources above and beyond their position.

This is an activity-based badge. It will be removed or alumnized if the user hasn't contributed in several months, but will be re-awarded upon renewed activity.

General update to Community Contributor
cc.png

  • Community Contributor is given to users for various reasons throughout the forum. It can be rewarded for nearly every section of the site if the situation arises for it. Typically, users are rewarded for any of the following: hosting forum projects and/or tournaments, making excellent posts within the forum section, organizing and updating tournament points/spreadsheets, providing and giving away competitive Pokemon for use in live tournaments, and almost anything else not covered under the umbrella of another badge.
  • Community Contributor requires good standing across the site, which includes PS, Discord, and all of the Smogon forums.
  • Community Contributor can be awarded to Moderators and above, but it will never be automatically granted to a Moderator or vice versa. Activities that stray from the scope of a Moderator's primary responsibilities can earn them the badge. This means going above and beyond the day-to-day janitorial and authoritative motions such as hosting tournaments, creating forum projects, and making high quality discussion posts.
  • Community Contributor is cross-site transferable, meaning if a user becomes inactive in one part of the site that the badge was rewarded for but is still active in another part of the site that counts towards the badge, it will remain in tact.
  • Section leaders are considered the immediate badgeleaders of the badge and require their approval before a nomination of the badge occurs. The Community Contributor badgeleader(s) are solely used in cases of controversy.

  • Community Contributor is an activity-based badge, and will be removed quickly when inactivity occurs. The badge will be removed from users that do not exhibit consistent activity and quality of contributions over a 4 month period. There is a subjective component to this in that contributions will be evaluated and if their quality is deemed insufficient, the badge will be alumned or removed at the discretion of the section leader it was rewarded under.
  • If you are debadged for inactivity, you must completely meet the requisites for the badge again before earning it back. Prior contributions will not count toward rebadging. If you are alumned after a period of inactivity, consistent activity over at least a month's time is required for the badge to be recolored.
  • Users will no longer be rewarded Community Contributor Alumnus after holding Community Contributor for less than six months. Furthermore, Community Contributor Alumnus will only be conferred at the discretion of the leader(s) of the section(s) the user contributed to, so some users may not earn it even after a year of contributing.

Introducing Top Community Contributor
1740857260803.png

  • Top Community Contributor is given to users that have provided consistent high-quality contributions that go above and beyond Community Contributor. Users are eligible for Top Community Contributor after six months of holding Community Contributor.

Update to translations badges

ladybug.png
Pre-contributor:
  • The main measure of said work is quantity, though quality should, and will, be taken into consideration when discussing nominations. A quality translation is accurate, doesn't alter the original content of the article, follows the grammar standards of the respective language, and most importantly is fluent and easily comprehensible.
To be eligible for the badge, a user must have either:
  • Approximately 5-6 translated articles. Translators with exceptionally high quality articles can qualify for the badge after fewer.
  • Approximately 25 GP checks for articles
  • Approximately 15 full-length translated analysis. The length of the translated analysis will be considered.
  • Approximately 20 preview-length translated analysis.
  • Approximately 15 translated Social Media Spotlights.
  • Approximately 20 GP checks for Social Media Spotlights.

smogonmedia.png
Smogon Media Contributor badge:
  • Users are eligible for this badge through various forms of work, such as by translating, grammar checking, and/or coding for on-site articles published through the Flying Press.
  • The length of the original article will be taken in account for this badge.
To be eligible for the badge, a user must have either:
  • Translated 8 long articles, 10 medium articles, or 12 short articles. Articles that are particularly long will be rated at the discretion of the moderation team.
  • GP checked 25 long articles, 35 medium articles, or 40 short articles. GP checking articles that are particularly long will be rated at the discretion of the moderation team.
  • Top Smogon Media Contributor (
    smogonmedia_top.gif
) is awarded to people who have met the requirements for Smogon Media Contributor approximately 2,5 times over.

contributor.png
Contributor

Users are eligible for this badge by translating analyses and grammar checking.
The following requirements are cumulative and applies to a single set analyzed, meaning translating multiple sets at once can contribute towards multiple requirements. They are also subjective, and exceptions can be made at the discretion of the moderation team.

To be eligible for the badge, a user must have either:
  • Approximately 25 short translated analysis (also known as preview-length analysis). These analysis are typically written through bullet points.
  • Approximately 100 GP checks for short length analysis.
  • Approximately 20 medium translated analysis. A medium analysis typically contains two constructed paragraphs.
  • Approximately 80 GP checks for medium length analysis.
  • Approximately 14 long translated analysis. A long analysis contains the Overview, Other Options, and Checks & Counters sections, on top of the two constructed paragraphs.
  • Approximately 50 GP checks for long length analysis.

Top Contributor (
contributor_top.gif
) is awarded to those who have gone above and beyond contributing to the site, meeting the requirements for Contributor 2,5 times over.

social.png
Social Media Contributor
  • Users are eligible for this badge by translating Social Media spotlights and grammar checking.
  • Roughly 6 months of continued contribution or general interest in social media activities after receiving Social Media Contributor is required to be eligible for alumnus upon resignation. Social media contributor is an activity-based badge and lowered activity will be taken into account.
To be eligible for the badge, a user must have either:
  • Approximately 30 translated Social Media Spotlights.
  • Approximately 40 GP checks for Social Media Spotlights.
  • Top Social Media Contributor (
    social_top.gif.m.1
) is awarded to people who have met the requirements for Social Media Contributor approximately 2,5 times over.

For borderline cases, additional effort put into a Translation Project (such as updating archives, HTML, handling release threads, offering significant help with the management of the Project) will be taken into account favorably.

Update to all RMT-related badges:

tr.png.m.1
Team Rater
tr.png.m.1

Providing constructive feedback to another user for a team they shared is referred to as team rating. If an individual rates enough teams with adequate quality and consistent activity, then they may be eligible to earn to the Team Rater badge. Rates can be earned from both forums and from rating in the official Smogon Discord. In the past, we had slightly different requirements due to the infrequency of teams posted for lower tiers, but this time we've standardized it across the board. We are also no longer offering the Pre-contributor badge. In addition to rating, we have other criteria that can reward users with a rate towards the Team Rater badge. The reason for having these additional criteria is to promote and reward excellence.

The list of what counts towards the Team Rater badge is as follows:
  • 1 rate for rating a team on forums
  • 1 rate for winning Rate of the month
  • 1 rate for having a winning rate in a round of the TR competition
  • 1-5 rates for a given month while rating in the main Smogon Discord.
Rating on discord won't be a one to one ratio, but rather, the amount of rates you earn is dependent upon your activity and your quality. If you display a high amount of activity alongside adequate rating quality, then you'll be likelier to earn closer to 5 rates for that month. Activity in the RMT channels can count towards both the Team Rater and the Live Chat Contributor badges, but if a majority of your activity is within the RMT channels, then you will initially be considered for the Team Rater badge.

The badge is awarded for a combination of the quantity of teams rated and the quality of the advice given, as well as some general activity requirements as listed below. The badge can be earned through the RMT forum and/or the main Smogon Discord:
  • Actively rating for at least 3 of the most recent 4 months for the Team Rater badge
    tr.png.m.1
  • Steady activity for 6 months after being badged for the Team Rater alumnus and shiny Team Rater badges.
    tr_alum.png.m.1
    tr_top.gif.m.1
Discord Competitive Leaders may also nominate Discord Raters for the badge after clearing it with RMT Leadership.

cc.png
Community Contributor
cc.png

Users who contribute to RMT outside of rating teams can earn the Community Contributor badge. This can be earned through contributing to RMT projects (now open to everyone and not just the staff), as well as posting high quality teams. The reason we reward team posting is because users are given a good example of how someone used their knowledge to craft a solid team that is supplied with extensive explanations and details. You can learn a lot from a good example, and that's what makes a high quality team thread valuable.

The following is what will count towards the RMT Community Contributor badge:
  • Posting a team that gets placed in Team Showcase
  • Posting a team that gets placed in Team Archive
  • Helping write up a thread for Team Archive
  • Posting RMT's of the month
  • Posting Rate of the month
  • Hosting a team rater competition
  • Going over and discussing a round winning rate in a rating competition
Rewards:
  • Users who contribute for a significant amount of time and/or post several high quality RMT's may earn the Community Contributor badge
    cc.png.m.1
  • If a majority of one's contributions come from team posting, then they may automatically qualify for Community Contributor alumnus upon earning the Community Contributor badge

Update to Media Contributor with art credits
smogonmedia.png

  • Users are eligible for this badge through various forms of work, such as by writing, grammar checking, and/or coding for on-site articles published through Smogon's Flying Press. Quality of said work is a major determining factor, although quantity is still important.
  • Artists who also contribute towards the writing process can earn extra credit through their artwork, allowing them to earn the badge at relaxed requirements.
  • All work that was done for The Smog, The Competitor, and The Player still counts towards earning this badge.
  • Smogon Media Contributor is a permanent badge. Those who have earned it are automatically eligible for the Alumni badge.
  • Top Smogon Media Contributor (
    smogonmedia_top.gif
) is awarded to people who have met the requirements for Smogon Media Contributor approximately 2,5 times over.

Update to Pre-Contributor
ladybug.png
and Social Media Contributor
social.png

In order to obtain a badge for social media contributions, a user can contribute in the following ways:

Set Spotlights/Teams of the Week: Set spotlights are short writeups (1 paragraph) for sets for Smogon's various metagames, posted approximately every day to Facebook and Twitter, and are organized in a subforum of C&C. Teams of the week are similar writeups describing what a team does for Smogon's various metagames and get posted every Thursday. Gaining badges through these means has identical requisites:
  • Write: 6 for Pre-Contributor / 12 for Social Media Contributor
  • QC: 12 for Pre-Contributor / 24 for Social Media Contributor
  • GP: 16 for Pre-Contributor / 32 for Social Media Contributor
  • Teams (TotW-exclusive): 10 for Pre-Contributor / 20 for Social Media Contributor
  • Set suggestions from QC/council members will also be taken into consideration towards badging.
  • Numbers can vary slightly depending on quality of contributions.
Trivia: Trivia is delivered through various forms (Who's That Pokemon, standard questions, etc.) and posted on Smogon's social media platforms. Contributing towards trivia projects counts for social media badges based on the quality and quantity of the contributions for roughly three to six months.

Art: Art created for Trivia and other aspects for social media counts towards the badge in roughly a 60:40 ratio (60% social media work, 40% artwork). Some examples of this include:
  • 7 Set Spotlights and 5 pieces of art
  • 14 QC checks and 10 pieces of art
  • 19 GP checks and 13 pieces of art
  • These are just examples of ratios of work, there are slight adjustments depending on quality and quantity of work contributed to the various projects.
Video: Live streams on Smogon's twitch channel, including smogcasts. The quality of contribution to streams will be taken into account:
  • Commentators: 6+ hours of stream time over 4 separate streams
  • Hosts: 4+ hours of stream time
Miscellaneous Projects: Various projects like weekly tournament recaps, C&C analysis roundups, scheduling posts in the Happenings thread, etc. Users are encouraged to come to goldmason and Marnie with ideas or proposals for new projects. Required numbers for badging will vary depending on the size, scope, or frequency of the project. Size is defined as follows:
  • "Small" projects: short/lower effort posts that require little if any original writing, i.e. compiling recently published analyses into a post and thinking of discussion questions.
  • "Big" projects: Longer posts with mostly original writing and/or require more organization, i.e. weekly SPL recaps.
Top Social Media Contributor (
social_top.gif
) is usually awarded at 2.5x the requirements for the normal badge or an equivalent amount of extra time and effort, subject to the individual case. The alumnus version is automatically granted once the contributor retires.

Introducing Tournament Host
tourhost.png

This badge is awarded to users who host official tournaments and select other large tournaments in order to acknowledge their contributions and experience with hosting tournaments. Users who have been awarded this badge show a strong understanding of Smogon's official tournament rules, the ability to keep tournaments running to completion in a timely fashion, and solid judgement when making decisions on behalf of these tournaments.

Tournament Host is given to users who have run a significant number of official tournaments without incident, using an objective point system with differing values assigned for the type of tournament hosted based on hosting difficulty, alongside a subjective review for inadequate hosting performance.

Point values for hosting team tournaments range significantly. Tournaments that award a trophy and are part of the official tournaments circuit generally award 6-8 points, with the exception of hosting individual weeks of Smogon Tour live tours, which grant 1 point. For tournament circuits which award a ribbon, hosting tournaments within those circuits award between 2 and 3 points depending on size and difficulty.

Outside of the official circuits, hosting team tournaments for top level subforums awards points, and specific exceptions can be made for individual tournaments if they warrant it (for example, hosting a Charity Bowl).

Users are eligible for Pre-Contributor (

) at a total of 6 points and can earn the Tournament Host badge at 15 points. Tournament Host alumnus is given to users who accumulate 30 points. The badge will be removed or alumnized after a year of inactivity with hosting tournaments.

Top Tournament Host (

  • Metagame Resource Contributor is given to users that develop, maintain, or contribute to metagame resources across the site. Any metagame that hosts resources on the forum is elligable for consideration, including unofficial metagames and old generations. Examples of contributions that count for the badge include (but are not limited to):
    • Submitting / reviewing sample teams
    • Submitting / reviewing VR nomination
    • Maintaining Speed tiers
    • One-off in-depth resources posts like this one (case-by-case)
  • Metagame Resource Contributor requires good standing across the site, which includes PS, Discord, and all of the Smogon forums.
  • Metagame Resource Contributor is cross-site transferable, meaning if a user becomes inactive in the section they earned the badge but is still active in another section, it will remain intact.
  • Tier leaders are considered the immediate badgeleaders of the badge and require their approval before a nomination of the badge occurs. The Metagame Resource Contributor badgeleader(s) are used in cases of controversy or to provide guidance.

  • Metagame Resource Contributor is an activity-based badge, and will be removed if inactivity occurs. The badge will be alumned or removed at the discretion of the section leader it was rewarded under.
  • If you are debadged for inactivity, you must completely meet the requisites for the badge again before earning it back. If you are alumned after a period of inactivity, consistent activity over at least a month's time is required for the badge to be recolored.
  • Users will not be rewarded Metagame Resource Contributor Alumnus after holding the badge for less than six months. Furthermore, Alumnus will only be conferred at the discretion of the leader(s) of the section(s) the user contributed to.
Users are eligible for Pre-Contributor (

) at the discretion of their Tier Leaders for similar contributions as above.

Update to Smogon Discord Contributor

The Smogon Discord Contributor badge is conferred to users who contribute positively to the Smogon Discord. To be considered for this badge, users must exhibit good judgment and level-headedness while contributing to the chat over an extended period of time through intelligent discussion, providing resources, or offering advice in public channels. Community standing across Discord, PS!, and all of Smogon forums is taken into consideration for anything concerned with the Smogon Discord Contributor badge. This badge may be awarded either for contributions in social channels or in competitive channels.

Smogon Discord Contributor has no hard quantitative requirements, but recipients of the badge must have been consistently active in the server for around four months with roughly 10k lines achieved with consistent quality in contributions. An alumnus badge has no hard time limit but users must maintain an active Smogon Discord Contributor badge for a decent period of time, between 4-6 months, with level of quality and quantity being taken into consideration for alumnus.

Technical Smogon Discord Contributors are those who contribute to live chat via contributions through bots and art work. Bot work can include anything from developing a bot to help make Smogon live chat spaces better to the continuous upkeep of its developer functions. Various functions or features are expected of a bot before its developer qualifies for the badge, with the amount of functions or features being case-by-case depending on how small or large of an impact a specific function has. Art work on the other hand is more limited, to server banners, server icons, and miscellaneous project artwork. Due to the type of contribution, there is no time limit on gaining the badge or its alumnus for technical contributors, as long as the quality and quantity in the work is there.

Introducing Top Smogon Discord Contributor

Top Smogon Discord Contributor is awarded to those who go up and beyond the regular qualifications for Smogon Discord Contributor. Such users demonstrate a high level of contribution to the server whether it be technical, or in vast quality and quantity. Like Smogon Discord Contributor, there is no hard requirement, but users are expected to have contributions x5 of the regular badge; that is 50k linecount with 20 months of activity, roughly and inclusive of contributions prior to badging. Factors mentioned for the regular badge will play a large part in whether the badge is conferred earlier or later than the aforementioned baseline. This also means that you are not guaranteed to get the badge once you meet the baseline.
