making this its own thread because

http://www.thecrimson.com/column/getting-geek-speak/article/2012/2/14/welcome_to_smogon_university/

Though published in February of this year, the article seems to have been written in the DPP era, with references to 'leads', 'Shoddy Battle', and strategic analyses written by '6A9 Ace Matador', who is incidentally also 'the Bobby Fischer of Pokémon.'

The author also writes

'It is as much a source of pride to take an exam at Harvard as it is to fight a great battle at Smogon'

Looks like Smogon is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Out of all the people that could've been mentioned on the harvard article and they picked am...

We're fucked.

except for that one guy who called me a “n00b fgt” when I finally won my first game.

Yep.

But yeah, cool article. Reminds me of the one another school paper did on us a while ago, who contacted Articuno64 for an interview.

of course she's a noob fgt, who calls a battle/fight/match a "game"

THIS AIN'T NO GAME, THIS IS SERIOUS SHIT

Locopoke: "I was the one that called you a n00b fgt, my apologies. Welcome to Smogon"

ROFL.

Also cool article!

the fact that AM is the face of the smogon community to these esteemed scholars is a disgrace to us all

Haha, ibojangles mentioned on irc how hilarious it is how often she mentions she goes to harvard.

I got a lol out of this; I don't think Pokemon related articles will ever be written from the perspective of good players :/

Still, interesting.

EDIT: in the sense of articles published to a large number of people and not seen by little but forumgoers; it's hard to say that the Smog is targeted at a large, unknowing demographic.

It's nice to know that Harvard students can't just jump in right away and take over the ladder. I spend too much time on this shit for that to happen.

wow, this article is much better than the other college article about Smogon a few months ago :d
