Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing mons since the start of SV and am a National Dex Mainer. I play most of the ND tiers while have good experience in them and having a few good runs in tours. I really enjoy the diversity and fun of tiers with Megas, Z-moves etc. and am looking forward to become a self sufficient builder. I'm working my way to get more into the competitive scene, and hence, while SM being my favorite generation, looking forward to learn it.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started in GSC OU because Pokémon Silver was the first pokémon game I played. I felt thrilled (and also different because people say that GSC is the "stall generation" and leave it at that) starting out but later on I got mad at my matchups and started branching out to Random Battles, Gen 5, BDSP OU, etc... and when I do play GSC OU matches I fail mostly because of my impatience. I hope to be more patient and to make my choices and build my team with utmost strategy.

I also qualified for Smogon Masters playoffs (and then lost 1st round cuz I overslept lol). XY/ORAS as a metagame has always been a bit harder to click for me than the other fairy gens, my Masters run was defo carried by SS and SM. I'd like help with improving as a player, understanding the ORAS metagame, and with teambuilding (I only really play what other people build, I'm not good at building in any gens)

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Been on Showdown since the release of USUM and I really want to get back into my debut format. These past few years, I've been focusing on my Random Battle skills (specifically SM and BW) and peaked at high 1400s respectively. I am not well versed but understand cores, team composition and type coverage. I've been in the Pokémon scene for quite a while so I'm able to predict moves the opponent has and how much damage they do. Well, sometimes I struggle with my overage judgement and I always get a feeling there's something missing in my team. Hopefully, being a tutee can fix these apparent reasons for my "averageness" and I get to the level which I want to be at!

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for Old Gens OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

THE RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): It's been a year since I joined the Smogon community and I've learnt a lot, where I've met amazing people and made friends along the way.

During this time I've entered several tours to learn different metas and get to know the wider community better, making decent runs. In 2024 I made the Last 16 of DPP Global Championships, finished 4-3 in the first Unova League (reached finals), 3-3 in LPL and making decent runs in other tours (several r4/5 etc)

I was tutored in BW by Cow but I'm looking for another tutor to help me continue my development in any of these tiers. So far in 2025 I've noticed my improvement:
  • SV RU Winter Seasonal Round 6 (Last 32)
  • SV ZU Open Round 4 (Last 12)
  • BW Trio Winner (5-1)
  • BW OU Winter Seasonal (Round 6)
  • ADV OU Winter Seasonal (Round 6)

  • SS OU Winter Seasonal (Round 5)
  • SM OU Winter Seasonal (Round 5)
  • LC Winter Seasonal (Round 5)
  • SmogCord Winter Seasonal (Round 7 / Last 16)

I would like to focus more on particular gens and make further runs so my aim of being picked in DPPPL, BWPL, RCOP etc can be a reality. Ideally I'm looking for an active tutor who is willing to give their time and effort in helping me, and I'll repay them by making the same effort in practising and playing tours.

My weaknesses are teambuilding, identifying win-cons and midground plays, but with the number of tours and metas I've entered I feel I can adapt really quickly - I also like to pilot teams with short notice.

Despite work and other commitments in real, I'll always make the time to work on improvement and I strive for perfection, so I hope whoever picks me in the future will find me easy and fun to work with.

I mostly play SV, SS and SM having some good performances like winning the OU stour tour, and some solid ssnl runs as well as getting drafted to play in a few team tours. I am looking to improve my ORAS gameplay because I didn't play it pretty much at all last year, and I felt like I was at a huge disadvantage when playing in Masters so I am looking for an experienced player that would be able to help me understand this metagame better.

ADV Mushi Leaguer who's been playing the format seriously since 2022 though I probably first touched the ADV OU ladder sometime around 2020 when I was still in high school. I've played in several tournaments and have experience in a few other formats though I am probably the most experienced in ADV at this point. My ladder peak is around 1650 and that happened a couple months ago, I currently have an alt sitting at around 1600 so I could probably get back there with some effort. The main reason I'm asking for help is because I feel like I have trouble going back and reviewing replays as well as building teams that cover important metagame threats.
