Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES​

• You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
• You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
• You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
  • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
• You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
• You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
• Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
• Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
• Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

I've had moderate success in other tiers and my climb up the ladder has been going well so far though I have never been the type to build a team- that I want to change. I've been seriously playing mons since mid 2023. I started with OU where I made top 10 of the ladder. Since then I mostly play rands in RBTT and RU in stuff like RUPL. I've also played in some stuff like unofficial pls etc. I want to get back into mons and my goal is to do well in OST, get drafted for OUPL next year and in the future, wcop for France.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Started playing back in 2022-2023 in formats under the National Dex formats, where I was then introduced to Smogon just a year later through OST though I didn't make it far. Since then I've been trying out a variety of formats, which includes LC: This includes a 5-0 record in LCWC, Top 32 in LC Fall Seasonal, and currently Top 15 of the LC ladder at the time this message is sent. I would like to improve on my skills teambuilding, as well as resource management during matches as I feel that these are my two biggest problems.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing SV Monotype in 2023 and quit playing for 2 years after plateauing in the 1400s. I started playing SV OU a month ago and have learned mostly from rating teams by shadowing competitive helpers in the main discord to the point where I can give good team advice consistently. I've also built a lot of teams there myself, so I'm more of a builder then a battler. I enjoy watching replays from all gens, even though I don't necessarily know the ins and outs of other gens beside SV, I can follow what's going on in the battles. Currently i'm in the high 1300s on the SV OU ladder having played a handful of games. I've come to learn about leagues such as the SPL, OUPL, and OUFL, so I want to improve my in-game skills to be competent enough to experience these leagues.

I used to play Showdown in 2021 but i've never reached to anything and i dropped it until 2025 where i started to play again Singles and trying VGC for my first time. In that period i started inscribing myself in tournaments and teambuilding some modest teams for OU, while also playing mainly Monotype and Little Cup. I want to take tutoring sessions because i want to get better to not be deadweight to my partners in team tournaments, and just getting better in the tier that i have more stockolm syndrome for lol. I'm also feeling bad with myself because of how poorly i lost in my first round of OST, so i want to get better partly because of that. I'm usually between the 1300s-1400s but i've peaked 1530 on ladder once

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been involved in Natdex for a really long time, I consider myself a very strong teambuilder in the format but I am inconsistent in tournament play. I would like to learn a new metagame (specifically I would like to try a Tera metagame again for something new to wrap my head around) as well as work on my ability to identify mid- and end-game lines and win conditions, as I have recently been struggling with this in high pressure situations. I have had some folks recommend SV to me and I would like to try it out.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon: I have been playing since 2022. I have only done tours for 1v1. My ladder results are in Gen 9 1v1, Gen 9 Anything Goes, Gen 9 Ubers, Gen 9 National Dex OU, and Gen 9 National Dex Ubers. My main problems are piloting with bulky teams, teambuilding in general (I have only gotten my results with sample teams, except for 1v1 where I can slightly teambuild), and analyzing the game each turn.

I have played many formats, mostly national dex and have recently started to branch out to more SS and SV. The biggest issue for me in SV is the Tera, I still working on grasping Tera usage on when to use it and the reasons for using a specific Tera on certain mons

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively about 3 months ago. Ive participated in some open tours and ladder tours. I was a sub for the most recent OUFL and my team placed second. Ive reached 1600 on Nat Dex on one of my accounts, and then 1700 on SVOU on my other account. I play gens 6-9 but only ladder on gen 9. Ive participated and gotten far in SS trios with a winning record, OST made it to round 4, Nat Dex swiss, Rand bats swiss, some seasonals such as OU, Nat dex, and I believe SS. Im in the smog server tour right now and Im currently in round 7. Ive learned from some pretty great players and am currently elping out with Teamballo and ORASCL (not on the team just support). I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help, and hopefully be able to perform better in tours and maybe end up getting picked up for another team tour in the future.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I used to play a lot of OU and randbats during Gen 6-7, was pretty okay-ish at OU, peaked around 1500~ iirc and just messed around with friends on randbats so I didn't care about the ladder at all. Coming back now and I'm just washed and making bot plays, stuck at 1200-1300 for now. I think being away from the game for a while has made my fundamental knowledge of the game basically nonexistant. I'm looking to get some help on grasping matchups, tera usage and just learning OU in general.
