Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Playing mons for fun for a year or so now. Been playing lots of smaller ladders and been pretty active in Ubers playing high ladder consistently, dabbled in UU as well for a week or so but now I want to get back into OU as I feel thats where the most competition is, and lasted I played was a few months ago (beginning of DLC2) and peaked 1800s. Have limited tour experience, but the tour experience I do have is versus pretty good players. So goals are to peak OU ladder, and get more into OU tour play.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, my Discord is same as my Smogon user

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in gen 4 and have played on and off since then. I got deeper into competitive last gen and carried on to this gen. My peak this gen was 1700 in OU and am now looking to get into UU, with my goal being to get into the top 100. I would prefer if my tutor could teach me about building teams, as it's something I've always struggled with.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing competitively since early gen 8. I consider myself a pretty good player - I have confidence that with a decent team I'd be able to ladder to top 500 in most tiers. I've never played in a serious tournament setting, so that'd be a direction I'm hoping to branch out into eventually I'm not great at teambuilding, and I'm hoping to learn more about UU, which is a tier I'm totally unfamiliar with.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yep, username there is dukeofkings.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've played a bit on Pokemon Showdown, mainly sticking to the National Dex format. I've used a few different kinds of teams but I've mostly used rain teams. I've tried other formats but I like National Dex most because I get to use my favorite Pokemon with modern mechanics, which is not always possible in the latest gens.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, you can find me on Discord with the username foglowu.

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!
Here is the signup template, and an example sign-up post.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I have started competitive pokemon around 2017-2018 after being a long-time casual player. My main format was SM Monotype and peaked at 1474 with over 200 games. I have also played SM OU with over 300 games but I was not very good. I recently decided to start playing SV OU after reading teambuilding and other relevant threads on Smogon. I would like to gain a better insight into this format to get better and I think a mentor is a way to do that. One of the challenges I face is not knowing which pokemon to use on a free turn and playing reactively instead of thinking more about my decisions. My goal is to learn more about team synergy, build better cores and understand how to play into checks and counters.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I’ve been playing Pokemon since I was in kindergarten and my first official competitive debut started in 2022 in Sword/Shield. Since then, I’ve been playing SWSH OU and SV OU and Doubles here and there but I mostly play VGC doubles on my switch. I am still very rusty and I want to learn the basics of team building and understand the meta game. I’m also eager to learn more about other formats as well and get better and open to receiving any feedback regarding my current team or play style. I’m really looking for to this opportunity to learn, grow and improve

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been trying competitive singles on and off since ORAS, and the higher tiers always pulled me in with how active they were. I've never got past 1200 on any ladder, even on older accounts, and I wish to improve. I've been struggling with SV's competitive singles scene more than I have with any previous gen, and I believe that I need to try and get into tutoring if I want to improve.

I feel like I do have a great experiencie overall, I've already won a RU seasonal back in Gen 8 DLC 1, but I also feel I got pretty bad after a 2 year break and I want to know how to adapt, improve and overcome some faillures I usually do.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing competitively for quite some time now and I have a lot of knowledge, but I don't know how to apply it when it comes to combat. I tend to play very defensive in OU and NatDex Ladder and I love Monotype (Especially with Grass Types). I have no experience in tournaments, but I am interested in participating in one in the future.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I was top 200 worldwide on the in game ranked in multiple seasons on Sword and Shield, but since then hadn't played as much. I mainly play ladders on showdown and managed to get top 30 on monotype, despite that only being because a lot of the experienced players are inactive.

Otherwise I've been playing pokemon over 18 years and know almost everything there is to know about types, pokemon, abilities and moves etc, along with being well versed with many common strategies or VGC practices.

I'd just like to learn a lot more about the format, I've found it to be very enjoyable and I like implementing all sorts of strategies when playing. (I had most success with a very very simple to use fire team....).

Been playing Pokemon since RBY, but I took a break for gens 6 and 7. I started playing VGC after Isle of Armor came out and have been having a blast with Scarlet and Violet. My first love is RBY, though, so I'd love to talk to someone like-minded about gen 1. I realize I have a long way to go since singles are so different than doubles, but my goal is to get good enough for RBY OU tournament play.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I have been playing competitively on and off since gen 4. My peak is 1700 and am usually consistently in the 1600s. I want to have a heavy focus on building as I plan on building for tours in the near future. Battling wise I would like to be able to create better game plans.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):I started PS back a couple years ago but then came back august of 2023. I have tried teambuilding of many formats, and have tried laddering w/ sample teams. No matter how hard I try, I can't get past 1300 and am usually fluxuating from 1000-1200. I am trying to get better at teambuilding and battling in general.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Playing mons for fun for a year or so now. Been playing lots of smaller ladders and been really enjoying Ubers, but don't "tryhard" often. Went for one peak when I started playing and hit top 5, but now just chill between 1600-1500s running teams for fun more than anything, but can consistently get reqs with good W/L ratios. Did fine during ULT, but didn't get an oppurtunity to play much because of exams, but what it showed me is how much I enjoyed playing against really good players, which made me want to improve at the game. I want to get a few things out of this, first, I want to peak ladder. I wasn't able to before, but I think with some better guidance I can. Additionally, I want to learn more about tour play, since I want to get more involved in them, but not sure how to really succeed in tour setting (signed up for Ubers Open, so hopefully can go pretty far with your help, future tutor!)

I'm a regular, been playing since the start of SV OU, took a couple breaks and found my form to rise, but it usually lasts for a small while. I want to learn to play all playstyles and become a good team builder. I also want to rise in the rankings because i can only peak 1700s, and i want to know how to become a player of great caliber.

I haven't really been in the community but I've been seasonally active battler since the days when Pokemon online needed to be installed on your computer. I've played DPP OU and laddered pretty well for a number of years but I do feel like I've hit a bit of a ceiling and I haven't really ever explored the tournament scene thoroughly. Despite experience in the tier I think there is always someone to learn from but I understand if this has more of an inclination for beginners.
