hey i was just reading the breeding section from the main part of the site and it said that at around level 5 you are basically able to tell if a pokemon has max IVs. it goes on to say that for d/p the way to do this easily is to use rare candies. i was just wondering if the day-care couple raises pokemon the same way that rare candies do, ie i could raise 2 babies at a time to level 10 and compare IVs, then fully EV train them after

Yep, neither Rare Candy nor the daycare give EVs, so they're both the same for that purpose.

Since Metalkid's damage calculator is a little off, does anyone know of a good one I could use that's accurate?

Do movie shaymin conform to the illegal PID combinatons for D/P? Meaning can a movie shaymin have a iv combination that shoddy says is illegal?

Wondercard pokemon don't have to conform to the PID-IV relationship so a movie shaymin can have an "illegal" IV combination. I don't know if shoddy accounts for this though.

Speaking of Wondercard, how do those work, exactly? I know you get one from Pokemon Ranger (at least, the sequel gives you one, according to the booklet) and can get them through PBR, but I haven't actually gotten one myself.

Must I use the StallRein set with Walrein? I mean. I really like it, but can I use a different set, namely a simple RestTalker? And if I do use StallRein, must I have Toxic Spikes? Imean, what if Guts Heracross switches in? Wouldn't it be better to have simple Toxic support?

No, you don't HAVE to use StallRein. You can use whatever sets you want, the ones listed on smogon or mentioned by others are just the recommended ones, but you can always use whatever works for you.

And no, Toxic Spikes isn't totally necessary, you can just use Toxic support as well. Either one is ok.

First off, there is no compulsion to use StallRein. The only thing is that if you use a regular Walrein, it is outclassed, in OU at least.
And if you have Toxic Spikes support, it frees up a moveslot for 'Rein to have an offensive move.
You really should have a counter to Heracross, instead of relying on Walrein.

edit: beaten

First of all, thank you two for helping me out!
What a Hail team needs? Spinner? Toxic support? Abomasnow/Walrein/Mamoswine and three slots for my pick?

The only pokemon you really need is abomasnow. If you're building a stall team, then use stallrein and of course use a spinner. Tentacruel fits well into stall hail-based teams: it resist fire and fight, has great special defense, rapid spin and toxic spikes. Then, of course, you can abuse snow cloak pokemons (read mamoswine, froslass, glaceon), but it really depends of what kind of team you do have in mind, and also the tier you are going to play in.
Have a nice day.

So an offensive Hail team is an option? I'm using Walrein, it's just the set for it...

Of course, you can go whether offensive or defensive. If you look at the analysis, you'll note that a lot of abomasnow set are offensive oriented. I suggest you to build a team and then post it in the RMT section so that team raters can help you to fix your weaknesses.

In all honesty, if someone doesn't realized both stall and offensive hail is viable they aren't really ready to make a hail team and posting it in the RMT forum would be near worthless.

@Spheal: Not to seem rude, but from your questions it appears you don't really understand the basics of how these type of teams work. I'd suggest signing up for the apprentice program in Battling 101 to get a better handle on the competitive aspects of the game. Best of luck on your hail team though.

Why exactly are OHKO moves banned?

It's difficult going into the long-winded explanation about why OHKOes move were banned initially in GSC. It was felt at the time the moves were antithetical to the idea of a competitive and primarily skill-based game. Also, because of the nature of the mechanics of GSC being it more stall-oriented and not even remotely as offensive as DPP it was much easier to simply spam them without as many repercussions than it would be in todays metagame. Current, OHKO moves are being discussed in Policy Review. I suggest you check it out to read up on the current discussion and you can easily pick up on a little of the back ground history you are curious about.
