Why is it that people say Electivire is used by noobs? Or the corollary question - why do experts use it less than novices?

Electivire lacks power and bulkiness. While it also lacks a bit of speed (which plays a significant role). Electivire serves best as a mixed sweeper, but it doesn't serve as a great mixed sweeper being unable to revenge kill many bulky Pokemon like Swampert, Snorlax, Rotom-A, Metagross, Mamoswine, Machamp, Latias, Kingdra, Jirachi, Hippowdon, Heatran, Celebi, Bronzong, and even Bold Blissey. While is also requires Life Orb or Expert Belt to be at it's best, but even with these items Electivire lacks power to revenge kill all those Pokemon listed one on one.

How does Beat Up work with Technician? Does every non pokemon perform a 15 power attack if the user of Beat Up had Technician?

Beat Up: Pokémon on the user's team that are not fainted and do not have a status condition do a 10 power typeless attack on the target.

So if none of your Pokemon are fainted and you have a party of six Pokemon, with Technician you will cause 10(1.5)(6) = 90 Base power damage. Which isn't even that great.

Beat Up's an odd move. Damage goes on each attacker's BASE attack, and the defender's BASE defence, ignoring IVs, EVs, and natures. The damage also has no randomisation.
The damage is typeless, but according to Bulbapedia the move gets STAB - it doesn't say whether the type used is that of the Beat Up user, or all the Pokemon.

There may be a few cases Beat Up would work well - most likely wall breaking on a team using Pokemon with high base attack but not many EVs in the stat. But it's going to be extremely niche.

Hey guys, this might be a fairly long message, so please bear with me here.

Sorry if it doesn't belong in Stark Mountain (but I'm fairly certain it does?...has to do with competitive DP battling on shoddy, but I haven't been on these forums in ages).

A little backstory first:

I used to battle back in R/S/E years ago, and I'd like to think that I was fairly adept at it. One of the things that players learn to do when moving past the introductory stages is making movesets and spreads that might not be the standard sets, but are very effective nonetheless. I'm not talking about gimmick sets here, but ones that you can use against a wide variety of OU teams and still be effective.

For example, one of the sets I used was a Pain Split/Protect/WoW/Curse Bold Dusclops with the attack EVs I saved from having no attacks shifted to Def/SpD. It was pretty much a massive tank that could switch in, burn things, and phaze (unless something subbed against it...and even then, you could Pain Split most 101 subbers to deal some damage before switching out) any sort of stalling/set up pokemon. Curse on ghosts is absolute hell for opposing Pokemon looking to sweep, set up, wall, or stall, WoW is just annoying, Protect to scout, and Pain Split massacres many Pokemon with Dusclops absolutely abysmal HP stat.

It wasn't a standard build, but it was effective paired with other members of my team (specifically, my Wish Vap and standard Cleric Celebi). Basically, there were only a few ways to stop it, and unless you happened to be insanely good at the game, if you hadn't seen such a moveset before (or even if you have), you'd be hard-pressed to stop such a Dusclops.

That being said:

I'm trying to get into competitive DP battling. I'm already fairly aware of the standard OU pokemon, their EV spreads, and their movesets. I'm in the process of building a team that can deal with the "high probability" spreads in the OU meta (obviously you can' deal with everything :)). I was just wondering if there were any "alternative" builds not listed in the strategy Pokedex that I should look out for.

No they will not flinch. Are there levels for the damage of Return based on what the lady says to you? Basically like 10 20 30 40 etc until 102 or is it more specific like perhaps 53.2% for the amount of happiness?

A Pokemon that is RNG'd is not a hack, right? If I use a Pokemon created through RNG abuse, it won't be called a hack if tested?

No, it won't, which is the reason people use RNG abuse.

EDIT: Another way to look at it is that RNG abuse is forcing the game to generate a particular pokemon.

AR/Pokesav is overwriting what the game has given you so it is what you want.

The outcome is the same, but many people consider the former method somehow more ethically legitimate than the latter. My personal belief is that it shouldn't matter as long as the outcomes are the same, but that's just me.

Any level, as long as you max out the EV's before you reach level 100.

Then I don't think so, unless they're RNG-ing some other Pokémon and decide to go for a Lati@s at the same time.

Thanks. I have another question, i was looking through the startegy pokedex for ideas on building a strong Aggron and im lost as to how he learns head smash, in the guides im looking at (marriland) they say there is no head smash, not even in tutor moves or egg moves?? its not a tm so... how do i learn it? Also i was considering using him to set up stelth rock, is this a good idea despite his low speed?

Ok thanks, so what are the variables for happiness? Or are they very specific?

Very specific, here is the list.

He learns it by breeding with a Rampardos/Cranidos in HG/SS. Marrilland probably hasn't updated it yet; I suggest Bulbapedia. I've linked to it several times answering questions here, they have a solid site and it is updated very quickly.

Here is the list of Aggron's egg moves.

Can i breed them in Platinum?

Another question. I'm just trying to double check.

I got Pokemon from a legit Japanese HS import and the name is, obviously, in Japanese (though the OT's name is in English). Can this Pokemon be used in VGC?

Can counter be countered? Say my snorlax switches in from a U-Turn, and my U-Turn gets countered by the opponent. Can my snorlax now use counter to counter that counter damage back?

Nope. Counter only works for physical moves (everything I'm saying applies to Mirror Coat and special moves) on the turn that counter is used. Counter has a negative 5 priority to ensure that it goes after every damaging physical move.
