i'm preparing to do a illegal move/eggmove combo list and i need to know if a father that was taught a 3rd gen tutor move thats now a eggmove for the child in 4th gen can that move be passed down?

I've been playing since Red/Blue, I stopped during R/S/E but started again at FR/LG.

I'm new to the competitive battling scene, before it was just me and my friends.

Call me stupid or w/e but what is EV training/IV's? Very stupid question but I'm completely in the dark.

EV training is killing certain pokemon to gain points in certain stats.
i.e:
Killing 1 Bibarel gains 1 HP EV. 4 HP EV's = 1 Stat Point
Each stat maxes out at 252 and there can only be a total of 510 EV's.

IV's are what is assigned to a poke after breeding. It is set when the poke is laid. (LOL) It is a very long process to get good ones, so just trade for some in the Wi-Fi board. They range from 0-31 and I don't know how they effect stats.

1. How many Sp. Def EVs does a "standard" Celebi (252 HP, Neutral nature) need in order for one of its substitutes to survive a standard Blissey's Ice Beam (no Sp. Atk EVs, neutral nature...I think)? A Celebi with a Sp.Def boosting nature? Would it be reasonable to run either one?

2. Do most Gengars carry Focus Sash?

Didn't get answered.

Yes. The best (and the most common) example is Ice Punch and Dragon Dance Totodile. You give Ice Punch to Dragonite in Emerald and teach it Dragon Dance naturally, when you breed it in D/P, Totodile knows both moves.

@Phoenix_passion- Switcheroo set can work somehow, Giving Toxic Orb to Blissey must be fun =P It'll be like a unNatural Curable/UnAromatheraphy toxic.
But Choice Band is also good. I think with some investment, Loppuny can resist Salamence's Draco Meteor and Ice Punch it to death. Don't forget Loppuny is faster than any Salamence (Not Scarfed of course)

can someone post the link to a thread on this site, i've seen it before but i can't find it. its the thread with movesets for pokemon? thanks

I think I'd use the Choice-Band set, with Return, Ice Punch, and Sky Uppercut...What would be a good last move for her though?
(I wouldn't risk using switcheroo because that would be a 1 for 1 trade off in that I'd lose my offensive strength.

Is it possible to see if a wishbliss is legit ? I mean some obvious thing where you can say that one is legit or not

hm? no answer ?

edit: for example when does it have to be received, received from who and so on.... I want to trade one but I am unsure whether it is legit or not.... hopefully you can help

Quick question - how much is one "stage" when stats are being raised? Like, with a single Calm Mind, just how much was your Special Attack raised? 1.5?

With each stage, the stat is raised by roughly 50% of it's original stat rating. For example, a DD from something with 270 speed to begin with gives a 135 speed boost for each stage gained.

It's pretty hard to tell with something like that, the only real indicator is that it has to come from an Advance game. Since it's given as an egg, the OT will be whoever hatched it.

Ok so it has at least to be "received through link trade" and come from an advance game right ?

No, it has to be Pal Parked, so it has to say that it's from Hoenn or Kanto, and it has to have arrived at Lv5 or higher. Other than that, there's no real way to tell.

It would need a boosting nature, with 252 HP and 176 SpDef for it's Sub to hold up against a neutral nature 0 SpA EVs Blissey (he'd take between 85-100 dmg with that spread; I used MetalKid's calc here so correct me if I'm wrong).
The "More Leech Seed and Calm Mind" set from the Celebi analysis, uses 252 HP/ 220 SpDef /36 Spd, which makes for a bulky SpDef Celebi variant if that's what you're looking for. All this depends on the set you're using though and Celebi usually can't afford wasting soo many EVs on SpDef plus using a boosting nature. Besides, it's irrelevant if you're facing CMBliss and even most other Blissey sets, which can have room for some SpA EV investment, rendering yours on Celebi useless, as far as your Sub surviving her IB goes.

EDIT: A neutral 252 HP/ 0 SpDef Celebi with 1 CM up, can easily do it though. So yeah, don't bother with SpDef EV's, unless you're also looking to survive something else, etc.
