Hello, Showdown moderation team. I have a question that’s not necessarily about Showdown itself so I do apologize if this is not the right place to post this, but I have a question about something that seems to have happened with the May 2026 usage stats pages.

This screenshot here is a picture I took of the Gen 1 (RBY) OU low ladder metagame stats. If anyone’s wondering how to get to such pages, you should be able to access the usage stats database through Pokémon Showdown itself where information is categorized by month; from there, you’ll be able to look for a link at the top of the screen that says “metagame” and then you can search by what format and ladder you’re looking for.

The above screenshot I’m using is a bit of an extreme outlier, yes, but across the board it seems like something happened that’s artificially inflating how much more defensively minded stall teams are being “used”. All I know for certain is that this seems to have just started happening this past month and my question for you guys is… what exactly happened here? I’m genuinely curious- was this some kind of bug? Did you guys have some kind of update recently that changes what counts as a stall team? This happens for more offensive metagames too, I should note. I haven’t seen anything like this happen before and one of my favorite things to do each month is look at ladder usage stats.

Edit: I now have a second screenshot from the same “gen1ou-0.txt” ladder for the sake of comparison. This second one is from April 2026.

Boooo

surely the fact that it thinks there are mono fairy teams is more confusing
The second screenshot is even weirder, it thinks there are an appreciable number of mono-steel types. Mono-fairy could at least be explained away by the usage stats not actually looking at the format's type, mono-steel would require people to be running teams consisting of nothing Magneton and Magnemite even if it was reading the modern types.

Is it still possible to play VGC Reg F on Showdown? When I challenge someone, the only VGCs I see are C, D, G, I, MA, and MB.

Questionfor competitive play out. So :gilscor: is now kinda a new meta cause of :gilscor: poison heal, toxic orb, protect, toxic, and a move that deals damage. My question is what is the best way to counter it

If you want competitive advice, it's probably better to ask in a dedicated competitive SQSA thread, like this one for OU, this one for National Pokedex, or this one for Monotype.

This is the place to ask questions that can be answered in a single post. Threads are meant for discussion, and questions like those don't provide that. Before you post here, check your post wouldn't be better suited to one of these threads:
If you have one of those questions, great! Just scan over this list first:
  1. Make sure it's related to the Pokemon Showdown simulator. In-game questions go in Orange Islands, while battling questions are more suited to the relevant Smogon Metagames subforum.
  2. Google is a cool resource - try searching there first. It only takes a matter of seconds, and might resolve your issue quickly without resorting to this thread.
  3. If you're new to Smogon in general, the Smogon Simple Questions & Suggestions Thread thread is the perfect place to find your feet.
  4. There's some good stuff on the sim page on the PS site - including a general FAQ and staff FAQ.
Answering a question? Some tips:
  1. Even if it's a really basic question, it'd be awesome if you could provide a very brief explanation to prevent the need for further questions.
  2. Please quote the question you're replying to, to avoid confusion.

so some time ago I wanted to battle a friend in sv vgc reg f and realised that there is only reg c d g and I in the teambuilder validation place and in the challange a friend format selection place. I understand if it gets removed from the battle a random person place, but I'm pretty sure the formats that cant be found there you can still make teams for and battle your frends in the format.

TLDR; why is vgc reg f removed and if it is still there where can one find it

In ladder tournament rooms, when announcing a battle, why does it sometimes say the average Elo and sometimes say the minimum Elo?

I’m curious about ladder. Que times have been high for both old gen’s and current gen lower tiers. It’s to be expected at the 5 year mark.

What I’m curious about - is there an internal algorithm that prevents players from matching up again immediately after their game? For example, I played against A on ladder, then against B on ladder, and then sometimes I will wait 10 minutes to get person C, then immediately get A and B again when I Que. it’s like A and B are also queuing but since i just played them the ladder won’t match us up until I get another game

Is this true / is there smth like that

The server prevents two users from battling if either is the last opponent the other faced. Everything about matchmaking is in this file I believe.

Do teams uploaded to the server persist on side servers

(also is there any way to stop them from transferring devices. Once pokepast.es is dropped id prefer teamsharing to not permenantly put a team on all devices i ever use.)

(Also on preact will i still be allowed to put an old pokepaste into import and have it fill)

If they are using the main loginserver, yes.

Edit: I stand corrected.

Yes.
