Attitude problems

so i was going to post a song parody about this whole issue of mods being mean/smogon being elitist etc but then about half way through the song i just did not feel it anymore, so i stop. guess you guys just have to settle for this post

maybe its just me but of all the forums i've been/ am on, smogon wins easily. i cant even remember the last time i loged into serebii[ btw this is NOT bashing serebii].
i think synre put it best, as in that really both sides have issues. you just have to look at the bigger picture, smogon really is not as bad as a lot of other forums like it out there.
the Grandpas of smogon are saying that it used to be worst in the past and that smogon is nicer today........ so if you feel the same way as the OP does then take that as hope that the smogon of tomorrow can be an even better place. posting threads like this really does not help that though because all you get is 5 people agreeing with you and 50 people coming to the defense of the current smogon.

I came to Smogon quite a long time ago to browse the analyses but didn't join the community until my join date. Sure, people are jerks on the forum, but have you ever spent any time on IRC, OP? (Serious question, I have bad short term memory and may or may not have seen your name on the list on any of the channels). Many of the badged users on the forums are actually very sweet (in the endearing way, not like "duuudue sweeet") and are willing to help you out or just have a good time. Sure, it seemed a little intimidating when I first joined but pretty soon you sort out the good posters, from the good and bad trolls, from the cringeworthy posters and you know who to take seriously and who to just laugh at. From what I've noticed, there are only a handful of ways to get flamed on here:
1. Making many dumb posts in a forum. This was much more severe in Firebot.
2. Insulting another user on false or unworthy grounds.
3. Outright lying or talking out of your ass about topics you don't understand.
4. Being a bad troll.
5. Insulting respected members, especially mods and admins and to some extent non-mod badged members who all participate on a volunteer basis and don't have an obligation to be here.
These are very easy to avoid doing if you just use common sense! If you insist on being a troll, step 4 might be hard especially if you aren't funny/witty.
On another note, can we avoid this psycho babble about being bullied? I was bullied as a child, which might be a symptom of playing Pokemon in '98 or just being a kid, like everyone else. Do I bully on here? I can't think of any instances, and I don't go out of my way to put people or ideas down. There are many users who can do that for me and say what I'm thinking, much wittier than I could ever say it.

regarding this thread's subject matter, you cannot have a peaceful environment with no trolling or 'bad' posts while having unprofessional moderators (ones who aren't trained/paid). why? they are prone to making mistakes and bad decisions. as shown by garbage forums like sppf and bmgf. rather, you simply have to let things roll until someone intentionally crosses the line. note that's not to say smogon mods are 'unprofessional' but they don't have a degree in proper moderating or something and thus, though they do the best they can, would not be ideally suited to maintaining a fully flame/useless post free environment.
so honestly you can say smogon has a bad attitude, but attempts to shut that down will provide equally as undesirable results.
