Battling 101 Q&A

I was just wondering, could I send a private message now to a tutor asking if I could request he/she to tutor me after i get the correct amount of posts? I've never battled online before but have made teams however with movesets from smogon, not thought up myself. I'm trying to find a tutor who could handle me :) Don't worry, I'm a fast learner.

I don't see a problem with that. Just make posting requirements before actually posting your tutee profile in the sign-ups topic!

Yo,

I noticed the OU line in Zone B is moving a bit slowly, so I redid my application to apply for the UU tier. I don't think there's a problem, but I just wanted to check.

EDIT: I also have a question: in the space asking which tier you are interested in, are you only supposed to put in one, or can you put multiple tiers? I'm asking because I've seen applications with multiple tiers listed.

For the post requirements, I understand that I have to have at least 15 posts. But I don't understand what it means by "on at least 10 separate days." Does this mean that none of the 15 posts can be on the same day? Or does it mean that you need to be a member for 10 days? Or something else?

It means you need 15 posts with at least 1 post for ten days.

Or you can always wait for a while, still you need more posts.
If you wait about....1-3 weeks, a new round will start.

If you mean what I think you do, there won't ever be a new "round". The tutors just tutor continuously. As they finish one, they pick up the next and so on. It's best if you just get your 15 posts asap, with at least 1 on 10 different days, and then just post in the signups that contain your timezone. If yours is the locked one, you just need to wait till its unlocked.

On top of these new Time Slots and Personalized Rounds systems, we have also decided to add a new prerequisite for signing up as a tutee. In order to receive a tutor, you must have made at least 15 posts total on at least 10 separate days before signing up. This is to provide proof that you are actually an active member of our community, and will not disappear once a tutor is assigned to you.

I totally understand the logic behind this, but the problem is that people like me who are brand new to the competitive scene don't know enough yet to contribute to any threads. I suppose we're supposed to post in the Off Topic forums for ten days?

Yeah, most new people can show their activity by posting in the many social threads on Smogon.

Two questions: first, how often does a new thread go up on average? Second, if you post in a thread that ends up getting locked, does it still count to the fifteen posts or ten days needed to be tutored?

There isn't going to be new threads. You just have to wait in the line and get your turn. If a thread is locked, there probably are too many sign-ups to manage, and it will take 2-3 weeks to re-open again.

Yeah they still count as 15 posts, as long as you've done those on 10 separate days

No, I don't think there's a problem, I did that last round in the old system. And yeah, I'm pretty sure you can take multiple tiers, as people are doing that...

Wow, this is probably a good idea for me. I took a long hiatus and have gotten REALLY rusty, so I could definitely use some help :). Obviously, I don't qualify to be a tutee (is that a word? lol) yet, and I will post in the social forums to get my count up. Hopefully this can work out, because I am pretty excited to get back into competitive battling.

Is it just me, or is Zone B's tutors not moving through tutees? I'm not impatient or anything, just wondering.

Well, the tutors teach their tutees for 3 weeks or so. Some tutors also have to teach multiple tutees, so that can take longer. You can always ask the person hosting the round in Zone B...

I know you can't tell me exactly when, but shouldn't a new round be starting soon?

There will never be a new round. There are the 3 lists where people sign up according to time zones. The tutors will work through the list that best suits there personal time zone. As the tutors finish with one of their tutees, they just take the next one on the list, and so on.

Do we have any idea when time zone A will be open again? I didn't see it up until it was closed, and it's stayed that way for roughly a month an a half now.

Well if you look at it, I think there are about 8 people who haven't been assigned a tutor yet. I'd give maybe 2-3 weeks until everybody has been taken, so maybe about then.
