this has to be the best update so far... holy shit, this is gonna be awesome

i alway said that ivysaur never got a chance to shine, and now he'll get it xD

Pokemon trainer (i will call him Red), seems like a interesting character, it is not easy to tell how to use it yet though, i guess it will be really tricky.

I love to play with Charizard, that's awesome.

@Steelicks, yeah I know, middle stage pokemon never get to shine anywhere...

@Yoshi King, Yeah I guess you're right, but I was thinking (and I really hope it isn't this way) that he might just have made them all severely gimped characters...

I wonder how the switching works.... It would be really weird to switch before you fall off, only to throw your next pokeball right off of the stage.... also what about hold items?... I can only guess that you would drop them while switching....

I'm still just overwhelmed by this character...

I've got a feeling that if you swap pokemon, the new one will land where the old one used to be, so no cheap recoveries. I wonder what the Final Smash will be?

Imakuni? revealed to be an assist trophy.

And since they opted for the Generation 3 costumes I think this bumps down the chance for and 4th Gen Pokemon to be involved.

I imagine several options for the Final Smash:
1 A combined attack involving all 3 Pokemon
2 Each Pokemon has their own FS
3 Pokeballs rain from the sky, several Pokemon comeout and attack
4 Mewtwo (or other assorted legendary) comes to the playing field and executes a powerful attack

Of those I figure 2 and 4 to be the most viable. Each of those Pokemon have a powerful move exclusive to starter Pokemon (Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, Frenzy Plant) which can be used based on which Pokemon got the FS item. Number 4 actually lets them drop Mewtwo from the roster spot, thus creating room for other characters but keeps the fans slightly happy (maybe you can even use Mewtwo for several seconds)

People on Smashboards did bring up some good points about the versitility of the 3 in 1 design, there is a lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight, so you can change based on %s. Plus theres that invulnerablity frame from what I gather from the screenshots. This is really shaping up to be quite the character.

I figure Squirtles Up+B to be Aqua Jet, Ivysaur's a variation on Vinewhip, and Charizard just Flys.

And some weird things, Pokemon calling other Pokemon out of Pokeballs, and maybe a cool move, the ability to catch other fighters, if they don't mash the buttons fast enough they are caught and game over!

This is definitely one of my favorite updates thus far, since its an entirely new character. I would not mind playing as this character quite a bit at all. And I'm excited to hear the stamina idea- perhaps this is the solution to the "OMG SHEIK" epidemic of Melee.

Although it was so close yet so far from Wartortle, I can't help but be a bit disappointed.

I second the idea for a legendary pokemon to be playable for a bit as final smash. While my favorite would be Mewtwo, the only other ones I could see being able to reasonably play as would be Mew/Celebi/Jirachi/Manaphy.

Just thought i'd put in my thoughts on how stamina will work.
1. I'm assuming Charizard's B will be like Bowser's B and as the stamina runs out the flame will grow shorter and weaker much like Bowser's does when used for a long time.
2. I believe that as stamina runs low the pokemon will feel sluggish ie. run slower, jump shorter/slower, attacks weakened.

Now the part that intrigues me is this "If you keep fighting with the same Pokémon, or if you change them out too often, it’s not so good for the Pokémon. "
This could be interesting to see as to how they play cause it gives the idea that their power grows and falls in a bell curve.

I'm thinking the stamina type thing will works sort of like HP. Since only those who play pokemon know what HP is, he jsut referred to it as stamina. Maybe once one dies, you just have to use the others, like Ice Climbers.

Except the ice climbers don't really work like that and then what would be the point of mentioning about how switching out too much or too little would hurt the pokemon.

lets speculate some moves!

squirtle
B: water gun
smash B: skull bash
up B: hydro pump (like in the anime when he spins around and goes flying)

ivysaur
B: vine whip
smash B: razor leaf
up B: dunno... maybe it would catapault itself with its vines or something

charizard:
B: flamethrower
smash B: seismic toss (grab then throw)
up B: wing attack?

To be honest, I could really see Charizard being a Bowser clone. Flamethrower would be the exact same really, Seismic Toss could be really similar to Koopa Klaw, and I'm not sure about this, but it could use Aerial Ace for Whirling Fortress (am I crazy or in the anime does Aerial Ace involve spinning around rapidly?)

Yeah Charizard really could be a Bowser clone easily but i don't think its too likely to happen as that was something that really upset the creator about SSBM

This update makes me think Pokemon will have quite a bit of PCs if they have a character like this! I wish he didn't use all 1st gens, though.

i certainly hope this update means that there won't be any other pokemon characters! all this speculation of lucario or deoxys is getting annoying.

steelicks, i personally think that ivysaur's b move will be solarbeam, kind of like samus/mewtwo where it charges up and then you release it whenever you want to. the up b move can be vine whip that latches onto the nearest edge.

charizard's final smash could be blast burn, squirtle's could be hydro cannon, and ivysaur's could be frenzy plant! or if the final smash is only for the pokemon trainer, he could probably call upon another pokemon or something. dunno, this is kind of a confusing update.

They'll probably not have Charizard in Pokeballs this time around.

Looking at one of the screenshots, it looks like the Pokemon get swapped very quickly - as Ivysaur gets taken back the next Pokeball gets instantly thrown out.

My take on the whole switching pokes to many times causing your stamina to lower is that it was put in to stop people from whoring the invincible frames when switching pokemon.

All speculation.

So last night my reaction was:
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT

And then I went to bed not realizing there was a second update. Now I read that too.

My god. Where the hell is Charmander! And there better be no Stealth Rock =[
