Well, maybe it's just me, but whenever I think of momentum, the first thing that pops into my head is pendulum. So, for a pokemon designed to explore the concept of momentum, I thought I should make a pendulum pokemon.
I then set about trying to figure out how to do this. At first, I wanted to make a humanshape dude with wings on the back holding a pendulum in one hand, but decided that was pretty boring. I experimented around a bit, and came up with a simple winged pokemon, with the pendulum just coming out of its body. After thinking on it, however, I decided it looked kind of dumb, with the pendulum just coming out of it. I eventually put the pendulum back in the arms of the bird, and this thing was born.
Anyway, about the drawing. This is a rough sketch. I don't have much artistic ability, so it's not very good, but with time I could probably make it look better in photoshop. This sketch was only meant to illustrate the concept, which explains a lot of little flaws, such as the wings stopping after the arm, or my pokemon's ridiculous face. I drew over the pencil with sharpie and pen, so that my scanner would pick it up. Frankly, it looks a lot better in person bcause my scanner fails. Anyway, I intend to try out any possible suggestions, then redraw it in Photoshop.
Well, anyway, time to explain the design. The bird's flying type is evident because it's, you know, a winged bird. The fighting-type element, however, is visible in the pendulum (an instrument for fighting), all the headbands and armbands, and, of course, those hugely ripped arms. I really liked the idea of a cutesy, small bird type with these massive arms, so I kept that in. The wrist-band like tufts of down were added because the arms looked very bare otherwise. Same with the little armband thingies, which are flapping in the wind. The pendulum itself is used as a weapon by the little fellow. He can hold it in one hand or both hands and bash in opponents' skulls/bones. The edges are also sharpened, for hacking and slashing. I also see him swinging it in midair to try to help himself maneuver. The top of the pendulum can also be used as a perch by the bird, if he stabs the edge of the pendulum into the ground. He can also use the perch to hold the pendulum with his feet, leaving his hands free. So that's that.
Also, just trivia, but he has 6 limbs, counting the wings (which are limbs). It's pretty much machamp!
Anyway, your feedback is very much appreciated. Please feel free to ask any questions or offer suggestions.
