I'd make it more noticable that his one foot is in the ground. I guess a little bit more rubble around it? And I agree with removing the mouth.
 
I think the mouth on that sprite is totally appropriate. It's just about the same as the one Cartoons made, only in sprite form. The smile on the sprite sort of goes with the possible "Vital Spirit" trait.
 

The problem with the "underground" hand is it's too "high up" pixel-wise to match the perspective. To be honest, when I first saw this, I thought someone had chopped one of DLL's arms off.

If you want to make it look like it's in the background, you need to change the length and angle of the arm. Otherwise, you need to bury it "further down" pixel-wise, as the ground is actually where the hand farthest to right rests, according to the image.

Just trying to offer some constructive criticism. I'd sprite something myself, but I can't, so I can only critique --- which I believe I can do well enough from knowledge of other art mediums.

P.S., the mouth is fine, don't change it. If you make it more neutral it will probably look too serious and won't work anymore.
 
I don't really like the idea of a neutral mouth, I was thinking more along the lines of either no mouth, or a little dot / hole thing

Here's how it came out. Bear in mind I'm even worse at shading than I am at spriting. I just got lucky with this one

The right one has the grin, the left one doesn't. I'm a sucker for it. =D

Several changes came with this. The suggestion of lowering the leg going underground was made. The two arms on the left looked strange before, almost like the were the wrong way, so I put one over the other to make it look more normal. And I added more rubble like Dane suggested.

4+4+4+3 = 15 colors total. That's not too much, right? I'll work on a shiny later.
 
Elevator Music: The sprite looks good, but I'd make the head more prominent. I think that's one of the selling points of Wiiveri's, and why it looks so good.
 
I'll try making the head bigger. It'll be somewhat hard though.

If that is the limit it looks like the spikes will be staying the same color then. =/ Maybe the gry in them won't.

EDIT- Here's an update with a slightly bigger head. Emphasis on slightly, it's only like 1 pixel bigger around each side give or take.

I only did the grin one because it's easier to remove than it is to add in.

I also put the one hand completely over the other, but I'm thinking I'll change that back. I don't really like it.

New one's on the left. I decided to scrap the fist altogether and take a page out of the animation's book and make him hold sludge (which I only just realized that Elevator Room was doing as well.. ah heck). The fist felt too aggressive for me and holding a sludge bomb is an easier way to show aggression without making it look too nasty. It also deals with the complaints about it not looking poison. The chubby hands at the front have been toned down a bit.

13 colours in total, not including transparency.
 
Actually Soup's was digging dirt, not holding sludge. You should make the sludge a bit darker, you have a couple extra colors you could use.
 
I actually changed it to sludge to make it look more poison-ish, but I may change it back.

EDIT- I think I'm going to lighten mine a little bit, just to make it look more like a pokemon. Right now it's like one shade too dark.
 
I think Wyverii's looks very good, although I kind of like the one with the fist better than the one holding the sludge. As far as I know of, no sprite has ever been shown with the Pokemon holding an item or using an attack. Anyways, I think it looks plenty poison already.
 
Some pokemon breathe fire. This isn't really any different.

And I'm uploading a lighter version as I type this. I'll edit it in.

Fixed the number of fingers, and completely redid the shiny colors. I still think Wyverii's is better though. :[


As for Elevator Music's, the highlights hand in the center bug me. Try adding some to the middle finger, maybe? The hand in the top right in general irks me too, not sure how though. (man I suck at giving criticism)
 
@ Soup: AAAA BRIGHT COLORS! If you look, all the other pokemon you use as examples have more subdued color schemes. It sticks out like a sore thumb, even though its light. You should make it a bit more "faded".
 
The shading and shape of it is a bit off, that's why. I fixed the shading in another update that I haven't posted yet, but I'll work on the shape.

I'm suprised the bottom left hand doesn't bug you then. >_>

And I'll try and work on the center hand, though it really doesn't need much more shading.

@ Tennis: I don't really understand what you mean.
 
Its not really the shading as much as the darkness of the center. It kinda gives the illusion of the shading being off. As for bottom left, now that I look at it the last finger is a bit crooked. You should make it into an open face up palm to make it look better, or a little gun pointing at the opponent.
 
Hmm, perhaps it's the outline that causes the EM's sprite to stand out a bit. If you look at the other examples, the light source is coming from the top left in each, as such, the Pokemon only have a solid black outline on the bottom right of their bodies. This is especially noticeable on Claydol and Garchomp where the lines that are exposed to the light are simply a lighter shade of the shape's color.

Sprite's still looking great, Wyverii, but I don't know about the sludge. Every Poison Pokemon's sprite other than Koffing/Weezing get by without any overtly poisonous 'props'. I don't think we need to beat over anyone's head that this is a Poison Pokemon when historically we've accepted it simply because Nintendo tells us to.
 
So time for amusement: I've decided to make a fool of myself and attempt a DLL sprite. Right now it's in the colourless base form. Will update when Imageshack isn't fucking with me.



This hopefully will work...
 
Ahh, I see what you mean now. The center is dark because the way I visioned the light source the hand is blocking it (like how you put your arm over your head to be abe to see without all the light in the way. You know what I mean?). I may change the bottom hand to a gun or something, though I might just place it on the gruond for stability. He only has one arm in the ground and one hand on the ground currently.

Cartoons! I didn't notcie that before. I think I'll change that about my sprite, it makes a lot of sense.
 
I'll have to fix my one's fingers, but for the record, the hand above the right foothold one is of the specially oriented position and the northwestern limb shows the physical side. The Karate-style northeastern hand exhibits defensive ability and the eighth hand is bedind him as a sort of shield.

Rip it to bits, mock me, I care not as I know that my spriting skills are still shit.
 
I must say, Wyverii's sprite is amazing. Though, I really think it should lose the sludge, it isn't really needed, as cartoons! said.

I fixed up my sprite quite a bit, and will probably continue to be touching it up here and there, but here is how it looks right now:

I have not decided on shiny colors yet(I have problems with that), but I wanted to make them brightly colored(though I have to say that it looks a bit odd with all of those bright colors together). I changed around a few color schemes for the normal one and fixed up the face and arms some. I think it looks much better than it did before. Comments, suggestions, etc. would be very much appreciated. Currently starting/working on backsprites.

Oh, Nasty Pass, yours only has six legs.
