CurseTar

I don't know if a specific CurseTar threat has been made, if it has, I won't be dissapointed if it's deleted.

Now then...

Alright, let's talk more about my fav. pokemon.

He isn't going uber, so don't spam with with that type of BS.

I was thinking about how well tyranitar would work with curse, taking advantage of his special defense boost with sandstorm. Here's a set I'm considering.

Note* This is a CurseTar discussion thread, so post any ideas/sets/advice/hate that you see with it.

Tyranitar@leftovers-CurseTar
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SAtk)
EVs: 252 HP/82 Def/176 SDef
Curse
Rest
Earthquake
Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Crunch

This is how the EV layout works:
404 Hitpoints

303 Defense (after 1 curse, it's over 450 so EQ wont damage as much and after 2 Curses it does barely anything, and lowers fighting attacks' power to
2x instead of 4x.

280 is the special defense with these EVs, which automatically becomes 420 with sandstream working for TTar. This is good in case a bulky water is sent out against him.

Finally, ttar with 0 Atk EVs and a neutral nature starts off with 304 Attack, which is nothing to laugh at.

All of his attacks get STAB aswell.(If I drop EQ, which probably isn't going to happen.)

I can really see this set working great with some polishing, but rest could hurt it. Otherwise, it seems to work great on paper so I'll have to test it out to see what it can and can't do.

Discuss.

So far, I see no reason why You're using Curse over Bulk up, but otherwise, I have to tell you that I use a Bulk up tyranitar, but I go careful (the nature) and max spcl. defense and allow Bulk up to deal with my defense.

Interesting how these ideas work. I think that they could work out well, but might have to switch a few times. I might try these ideas when I get D/P.

Right now I am using a Curse Swampert which i feel make a better curser. For Tyranatar IMO DD is better. Tyranatar has too many physiscal and special weaknesses and with a earthquake weekness and a infight weekness your really getting hit with a lot. Rest on this thing will be the death of it but with out a recovery move this thing will fall fast so I would say put a chesto berry on it.

Tyranitar doesn't learn Bulk Up.

For CurseTar in general, I don't think it'll be able to do much with all of the fighting types running around. Unless you get in an obscene amount of Curses, Infernape/Heracross are going to come in while you sleep and kill you.

Tyranitar doesn't learn Bulk Up, does it..?

- Stone Edge/Crunch/EQ
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Late game sweeper, like Double Edge / Curse / Rest Talk 'lax. Could be useful as long as you manage to avoid the incoming fighting moves :p .

heh I deleted my message because for some reason I read the topic as "curse lax....". Now I see why tenchi was saying it couldnt set up

Tar's Defense is pretty high as it is. It needs more Speed to be used more effectively, hence the reason why Dragon Dance is practically standard.

It's more of a novelty set, but it can work. I would go with Earthquake and Rock Slide, eventually, Claydol starts worrying about that Rock Slides. And... Bronzong laughs at that, Skarmory Roars/WW's. Good set but more counters to it.

Yeah, it's more of a novelty set no doubt. I already have a D/P CBtar and DDtar made with great stats, (excluding a few moves), and some perfect IV's. This is just a fun set I might make.

Tyranitar's many weaknesses (especially to EQ and CC) makes it hard to repeatedly use Curse. It looks like it'll work, but not well. :(

*shrugs*

Well, the problem with bringing in a fighter while ttar sleeps is you have to make ttar sleep first.

If you gave it a little bit of speed, it could still outspeed a hippowdon (TTars best counter in RS) after one curse, meaning by the time it gets to attack you will have 2 curses and it wont even be able to 3hko you. After 2 curses you should 2hko it.

I actually kinda like this set. However, I still like CBTar a lot more..

Have a nice day.

If Tyranitar had like 100 base SDef, it could work, but with special fighting moves everywhere...
It does have 100 base Special Defense.

Also, special fighting moves everywhere? A few things get Focus Blast and there's the occasional HP Fighting, but beyond that you won't be seeing many special fighting moves.

Other than Lucario's Aura Sphere and Togekiss's Aura Sphere (but i doubt Togekiss would attempt to take on Tyranitar Directly...) A Choice Specs Lucario with Aura Sphere might be the only thing Special Fighting Wise Tyranitar would likely have to deal with... Asside from as pointed out the occational Focus Blast.

If Tyranitar had like 100 base SDef, it could work
Hahahahaha

DDTar outdoes CurseTar in so many ways. A fast sweeper helps the team more than buffing the defenses AND making slower someone who is 4x weak to Fighting, a mainly physical attacking type coming from Fighting-type pokemon that would LOVE to outrun you after you Curse.

Granted you can take out their physical side and just start Cursing up, that could very well be scary, but then you run into the fact that he has no quick recovery. Nevermind T-tar, go back to that other form of asskicking you were previously doing (be it CB, DD, or Boahboahboah).

It's decent, but I don't think it's anything special. TTar has too many common weaknesses to be trying to set up with Curse. The real potential of Tyranitar lies in Ubers, where it shits on a lot of stuff.

I cannot really see Tyranitar get away with Curse/Rest when people are doubting Snorlax can pull it off. Cursing without Rest is begging to get stalled out, really. I won't be surprised if this is just one of these optional sets that doesn't get as much use as the standard Choice Bander or Dragon Dancer.

Lol I know, please don't bash me for talking about cursetar lol XD

This is just a novelty set idea, and I already have DDtars and CBtars with near perfect IV's ready for wifi.

It's just novelty and boredom mixed. Basically for fun when playing against friends or when you have nothing better to do. =D

Say no to failure; curse tar could be used in GSC, but it was already(became) useless in ADV.

This is how the EV layout works:
404 Hitpoints
Fine, w/e

303 Defense (after 1 curse, it's over 450 so EQ wont damage as much and after 2 Curses it does barely anything, and lowers fighting attacks' power to

EQ will still rape TTar no matter how much defense you got.

280 is the special defense with these EVs, which automatically becomes 420 with sandstream working for TTar. This is good in case a bulky water is sent out against him.
*******************************************************
No, what kind of bullshit is this? When did Sandstream increase your SDEF?
*******************************************************
Edit: Sry ops; I was not informed of this

Finally, ttar with 0 Atk EVs and a neutral nature starts off with 304 Attack, which is nothing to laugh at.
No; 304 ATK is pretty weak

All of his attacks get STAB aswell.(If I drop EQ, which probably isn't going to happen.)
EQ doesn't

Not great on paper

Sandstorm increases Special Defense for rock-types ever since it was discovered a few days ago. As for the set, use Crunch. The chance of a defense drop is useful against Skarmory.
