Do you replay the games you've already beaten?

i wonder what games i've actually replayed. a game really needs to amaze me with that je ne sais quoi to get replays. a lot of games i've planned on replaying just haven't happened yet, the will to do it isn't there. i don't know what it is that makes me want to replay a game (hence the term je ne sais quoi) but sometimes it clicks, sometimes it does not.

for example, i bought bastion on the 15th because i needed something good to play (i get sick of laddering really fast, like within 10 minutes i sometimes want to just throw up my hands and quit). since then i have logged over 50 hours of it, i am on my third playthrough, and i have gotten every achievement bar 3 (which i am going for in the process of this third playthrough). bastion is not an especially long game, but i found a ton of replay value in fiddling with weapons and running who knows where sequences like ten times to ensure i can get the 10-god achievements consistently (BELLOWS/MORTAR S TIER COMBO)

i have played all 3 routes of fate/stay night twice, including 100% CG completion - this is over 100 hours. story was just that damn good. i don't think completing all routes in a VN counts as "replay", but completing all routes multiple times, okay that must count. for what it's worth, i have played three other VNs to 100% route completion, but never gone for 100% CGs in any of them

amnesia the dark descent replay is totally lined up for this holiday season, game was amazing (i pirated it the first time but i paid for it good and proper as soon as i could... it was totally worth it) and i really want to run it again. it was basically perfect

persona 3 FES replay is also lined up (my roommate in uni is the one who introduced me to the franchise) but probably a bit later in the year, persona is a pretty long game and it can be frustrating (anybody want to see my godly trimadyne metatron, please message THIS IS REAL I SWEAR)

a lot of games with no real storyline or ending criteria (eg dwarf fortress) are things that i tend to come back to, then quit, then come back to, on and off. i never tend to stick with these games for a long time but i love the gameplay. i'm not sure this really counts as replay though. shamefully, i have never completed an entire run of angband, but i've had a similar mindset about that too

anyway that's about all that comes to mind for now, i replay relatively few games, but when i do, the replays are usually within about 2 months of completing the first time, and i replay over and over until i feel satisfied

How did you replay Borderlands? I couldn't even stomach playing the second playthrough. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. Just not more than once.

I've beaten the original borderlands 2 or 3 times, but I could understand someone thinking it's too repetitive. BL2 is so much better than the original though, in pretty much every aspect. It's actually the first game in a long long time that I beat once through, then started a new character right away and beat it again. Not to mention that I did TVHM with the second character right after that.

just like a good film, if i enjoy it i'll experience it again - time permitting. quite sure i'm in double figures when it comes to Ocarina of Time, Uncharted 2 and Sonic Adventure 2. some games get better on subsequent playthroughs as you begin to notice cool little quirks you've missed the first time round but I think others that depend on atmosphere and storyline such as Metroid Prime or Eternal Darkness lose a bit shine the second time 'round, but both are still games I've played 2+ times.

so to answer the op; yeah, of course?

I replay my games all the time. I just finished my 10th play through of Okami. Still enjoyable after 10 time playing it. And I'm still playing Pokemon Black 2. The World Tournament is awesome! :)

The games that I usually replay are Tomb Raider (all versions, but usually the 1 - Atlantean Scion, and 2 - Dagger of Xian, and their expansions), and I also like to replay The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (with both expansions Tribunal and Bloodmoon) - I've played other Elder Scrolls, including Oblivion and Arena, but I never replayed them, and the only Elder Scrolls game that I haven't played yet is Skyrim. A game that I've been recently replaying is GTA San Andreas, I like all three franchises. Other games that I've replayed are Age of Empires (all three versions INCLUDING expansions and Age of Mythology), Spore (with the expansions Creppy and Cute creatures and Galactic Adventures) and of course, Pokémon (all of them except those from 4th Generation and I've not yet played BW and BW2). But the games that I like to replay the most are Tomb Raider, The Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto. I've beaten all of those, but I am always replaying them, because I like them so much. I honestly have no other reason.

I used to replay games a lot when I was younger because I was more easily amused and I didn't have many games. I couldn't tell you how many times I've played through the first two Donkey Kong Country games.

Since you mentioned the Jak games specifically, I will say that I've replayed those a lot because THEY ARE AWESOME. Not so much the first one though... It's relatively short and easy though, it shouldn't be hard to get through.

omg omg omg omg Star Wars KoTOR all the way, just ask vader about its awesomeness...

i think i must have replayed it at least 15 times

I replay a lot of GB/GBC/GBA games, but I hate to delete a save file and downloading them isn't the same experience. I usually just buy another cartidge, which has become increasingly easy with eBay and I just discovered a used/retro gaming store like 15 minutes from where I live.

I've done multiple playthroughs of Pokemon and Zelda, and I'm looking to replay some old Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest games. These games are all nostalgic, but I also find that I enjoy them the most when I really think about it.

I'd also like to replay Monster Racers for DS; it's a solid game that gets no love, but it's also pretty hard to find.

I'm really cheap. I do a ton of research into any game before I buy it. If it's not something that I expect to replay many times, or as is the case for pokemon now, something that I'll put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into, I don't buy it. However...

I bought English Black 2 the day it came out. I finally opened the package just a week or so ago. And I'm still not to the second gym.

I imported and played through Japanese White 2 way back when it first came out over there. I did 2 runthroughs. Beyond that, I don't think I could even enumerate the times I've played through Pokemon Blue, Yellow, Crystal, Sliver, Leaf Green, Fire Red, Gale of Darkness, Pearl, Platinum, JPN Heart Gold, Eng Soul Silver, JPN Black, ENG White, and JPN White 2.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still love pokemon. I love the Global Battle Union so hard. And the VGC tournaments are the best!

but

idunno

i just have like zero desire to play through the elite4 again

not

again

Same thing with Ocarina of Time. Don't get me wrong. OoT is undeniably still an amazing game. But ever since it first came out on the 64, it's like pokemon. I can't even imagine how many times I've beaten it, and 3 Heart Piece Quest'ed it, and beaten Master Quest, and 3 Heart Piece Quest'ed MQ, and done 0 death runthroughs, and beaten every post-Iron-Boots boss with my Iron Boots on, and spent hours finding new glitches and trying out ones I'd read about, and...

dear lord

But yeah, there are still plenty of games I replay regularly. Super Mario Brothers (3DS VC) is great for when I've got 10 minutes, like at the store waiting in line, or whatever. Quick to pick up. Able to beat in about 20 minutes max. Repeat, repeat, repeat. And I'm stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllll working on a 6 Heart Piece ruhthrough of the the hero mode of Skyward Sword. Just picking it up and playing a few, 20 or so, minutes every other evening. Still love it. Just don't have a ton of time or energy for it atm.

I've probably spent like 3 months of my life playing Smash Bros Melee if that counts.
Other than that, I replay Zelda games and some RPGs (Pokemon and Fire Emblem are better than most in terms of replay value because of the different playable characters and opportunity for challenge runs), but I can't ever see myself replaying a Mario Galaxy, etc.

Edit: So, multiple people mentioned FE as well, so I figured that this is as good of a place as any to share that the full English translation of FE12 has been released for those of you who would want to play/replay it in English.

I like games which are plot heavy, but that also makes them hard to re-play, since you know what happens. On the other hand, I do replay some games, although I tend to replay games which aren't too plot heavy, like pokemon and mario. Right now I'm playing through Mario 64 (the DS version, I don't have a SNES). Its never as fun as the first time, but it passes time.

I replayed Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Sonic Unleashed recently. TTYD is a fucking amazing game, so I had a great time there. I played Sonic Unleashed right after I had the misfortune of playing Sonic 2006. Unleashed really helped ease the pain, that game gets so many things right that Sonic 2006 gets wrong. After I get a Wii U, I'm also planning on replaying Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Paper Mario.

I've replayed Sonic 1 20-something times as well. I don't know why, but there's something about that game that keeps me coming back to it, and no other Sonic game has ever done that.

I don't like games with a beginning, middle, and end usually. I like games that can just be played continuously with unlockable perks that come along the way. Think games like Sim City, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 + 3, and basically any racing game that can fit under the same mold.

The only games that I play that don't fit this mold: Pokemon.

I like games which are plot heavy, but that also makes them hard to re-play, since you know what happens.
This is the bane of existence. I really wish that I could go back in time to a period where I had not played the Phoenix Wright series/Ghost Trick so that I could go through them again. Shu Takumi's writing is delightful, but it really does not stand up to replaying. Otherwise, I find jrpg's really enjoyable to play through again. FFIII, all of the gba fire emblem games (not strictly rpg) and the ds dragon quest games are great the first time, and still fun again due to the room to experiment with party members and the like.

i tend to replay star ocean the second story, digimon world, and monster rancher 2 every year, probably because they were my favourite games from childhood. they haven't lost their glow yet.

the abstract nature of the latter two games makes replaying them interesting, as every year i'm able to beat them quicker and more efficiently.

omg omg omg omg Star Wars KoTOR all the way, just ask vader about its awesomeness...

i think i must have replayed it at least 15 times

this, and also

has been a favorite with my close friends from high school and I for years. playing with my friends is probably the real reason I still play through this game, but I love it nonetheless. the sequel was disappointing because it took out lots of the stuff that made MUA fun for me, but you know~

I'll replay RPG's all the time, even if I just beat them. For other games, though, it usually has to be a while. In games like Pokemon and FFXII, you have many different choices with your parties, so it's almost like playing a different game altogether.

Any game with a NG+ I play again right away, since I usually need the game to be fresh in my mind if I want to take on a harder version.

I tend to replay strategy games because there are always other choices and secrets I never obtained. Those subtle additions tend to make the game more fun the second time through.

There's Fire Emblem where you're not really sure who to recruit first time around and you're most likely playing on Normal mode to test the waters before they bust your balls on Hard. Second time around, you either explicitly know or at least have a good idea of who to invest in, so you can play Hard mode with a godly team of Nolan/Zihark/Haar/Nephenee to offset the bullshit they'll throw at you.

Super Robot Wars J has four different mechs for its main characters, two separate, but intertwined storylines, and three partner pilots with their own sets of stat bonuses and support skills. There are nothing but choices in that game. I breezed through it three times.

Super Robot Wars W is my favorite game in the series. It has all of the anime series I like, a family of pretty cool space pirates taking center stage, dynamic kills left and right, and an awesome soundtrack. This is what a Super Robot Wars game is supposed to be. Played through it three or more times.

This obviously takes a lot of time, but you won't notice if you truly enjoy the games.

all fire emblem all the time

i'm longing to replay 9 and 10 as i've only ever played them once, and my 10 got stolen and my 9 is at my father's house (but i will be retrieving it next month, yes!) still need to acquire another FE10, sad times. being able to play on different difficulty modes and level up different characters/essentially making a new game for yourself in difficulty and story, if you give a shit about supports, is really addicting. i've replayed FE7 countless times, though i still haven't beaten hector hard mode! i might pick it up right after posting, and see where i'm at with that. i've also got FE6 on cart, imported of course, and i'm in the middle of chapter 26, very close to the end of the game. it's such a bitch chapter though, i don't allow any units to ever die so if i lose one i have to restart. so many recruits, it's hell.

mario 64 is a game i like to replay a lot, though i've never gotten all 120 stars myself. i have a really bad habit of nearly finishing games and then not playing them for a while, then just restarting them. i beat ocarina of time for the first time earlier this year. i'm also near the end of majora's mask having played for the first time this year as well, i've beaten all four temples and just have to wait for the eve of the carnival to allow the big shit to go down. putting that off for some reason… maybe i just don't want it to end?

gen2 pokemon is my favorite generation to replay, and definitely the easiest for me to enjoy all over again. best map, best music, best everything.

i replay FFTA every now and then, but i sometimes get sick of it immediately, and don't finish my playthrough. i'm stubborn to the point that i don't like using different classes/races than i originally preferred, and so i end up doing the same thing over again and the excitement of a faux-new game slowly wears off. sometimes i just itch for the playstyle though, and how the game looks. nostalgia brings me back to that game more than anything, so i always give it my best effort to replay before i undoubtedly can't stand it anymore.

oh, i also love replaying the zelda oracle games. i recently completed a linked playthrough and got the master sword and mirror shield, which made the game WAY too easy, but it was awesome getting items i had never gotten before, and having a linked story line. those games are so so good, absolutely my favorite zelda games.

I've also replayed things like Mega Man games and Advance wars lol -if hard mode counts as a replay XD-

Advance Wars <3, I tend to replay that a lot even after beating hard mode. Guess I'm a perfectionist for that S ranking (although this is only for AWDS)

Probably the only game I enjoy replaying

I cannot tell you how many times I've replayed Star Fox 64, Majora's Mask, Mario 64, and others in my lifetime. There are some games that never get old.

I've replayed Kirby Squeak Squad something like 20 times. I've gotten all 120 treasure chests so many times now but I love that game.

I replay Pokemon a lot, usually trying different things (Nuzlocke, just using different Pokemon, etc.).

That's it, really.

i can play mario and fire emblem games all day long over and over again. infact i have done that LOL

jump ultimate stars is a game that i honestly just cant enough of with my friends and we have been playing it for like 5 years now. just a fucking great game lol
