Do you replay the games you've already beaten?

I play classics such as SMW, UN Squadron, Sonic Genesis games as well as classical RPG's such as Chrono Trigger, FFVI, VIII, Breath of Fire III, etc.

I like replaying games that have multiple different paths you can take to win. For some reason knowing every possible outcome is just oddly satisfying.

And plus replaying the game when you're more prepared for what's going to happen is a lot more fun than struggling along while something is happening (but that's usually more fun anyway)

Games i've replayed to completion (from recent memory):

Super Mario Galaxy (Played through this game twice, yes including playing through Luigi's story mode)
Earthbound (At least 5 Times. Got the SoTK on 2 of my runs)
Mother 3 (3 times. Once in Japanese and twice in english)
FFIX (3 Times. 2 Times alone, and a 3rd alongside with my brother)
FFVII(4 Times)
Devil Survivor (10 Times??? Completed the original 5 times for the different endings, and i'm on way to 100% the 3DS remake too)
Devil Survivor 2 (3 Times. I've got along way to go before I finish it...)
Paper Mario (4 Times. I finished the game from start - finish in one day on one of my runs)
Paper Mario TTYD (Twice)
Super Mario Sunshine (I actually only ever 100% beat this game once, but I've beaten bowser on numerous new game modes)
Legend of Zelda OoT (3 Times, counting the 3DS remake)
Majora's Mask (At least 3 Times, could be more not really sure)
Sonic Adventure 2 (Never 100% :( but I beat it loads of times)
Sonic Adventure DX (see 2)
Pokemon Games (Replayed Gold like 10 times......)
Kid Icarus Uprising (Only game in 2012 that i've replayed, I still haven't technically "beaten" Skyrim ehe)
Fable (At least 4 or 5 times on the original and 5 on Lost Chapters. Fable I is a very replayable game)
-More games (probably)

I replayed Kingdom Hearts II around 6 times (BEST GAME EVER.)
I played all of the Pokemon games after Sapphire twice, once in English, once in Japanese.
Whenever I sleepover in my cousin's house, I do playthroughs of Heavy Rain... (XD) so I've played it around 4 times total.
All paper marios twice.
Skyrim, twice, due to faulty xbox.
Zelda: Twilight Princess and Zelda: Wind Waker twice each.
and a lot more, which I may not remember.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is so good that I replay it over and over again.
And of course I play Chrono Trigger, how else am I supposed to get all stories?

Depends heavily on the game. Games that I played very often when I was a kid (Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64, OoT etc) I feel like picking up and playing at any time. For more recent games I lose interest after beating rather quickly, probably because I have a lot less time to dedicate to them and become as attached to them as I am to the classics.

But there are exceptions, like Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart.

Most recent games I've replayed are FireRed and Platinum, and at the beginning of the year I played through OOT on 3DS. I forgot just how good Platinum was until I replayed it, the visuals are stunning and the story line is probably the most disturbing. Distortion World tripped me up again, I don't know why it was so hard for me.

I try to play through Super Metroid once a year and have done so since 1994. It's my favorite game ever and sibce the game isn't necessarily hard, I enjoy the adventure more. However I'm too inept to do a speed run as I never quite figured out how to pull off a mach ball... maybe some day!

I replay Megaman Battle Network games frequently. Jump Ultimate Stars is also a good game that doesn't get old.

generally, not unless it has difficulty modes and i really liked the game the first time. the only real examples i can think of: ocarina of time 3D, uncharted, advance wars, mario kart, rayman origins.

second playthroughs to me feel like a slog, since there is virtually no tension. everything has been revealed to you -- no plot twists, no beautiful puzzles, and all the gameplay has already been done, step for step. i suppose it could be done in RPGs or somethin like deus ex where you specialize your character. maybe go for a stealth run on deus ex one go round and hit up a run and gun style next time? roguelikes are very fun tho, but every playthrough is different on thems

don't have a ton of time for gaming as is, i'd rather have new experiences

Yes, but only Resident Evil 4 and Pokemon games. I played and passed RE4 several times on GameCube, PS2, PC and XBLA. Why? Because it's the best game ever.

Lol bayonetta is better. I have done maybe 8000 contra and MM2 playthroughs. And I have beat barbie on NES 0 times (I dare you to try it, it is hard as hell)

Generally I'll play every game with multiple difficulty settings a few times. Once with the recommended difficulty, and again later on higher settings (usually a few months in between)

Lately, I've gotten in this habit of starting games and not finishing them, which is more disturbing to me then playing multiple times. I just got Borderlands 2, and I still haven't finished Borderlands...

I'll figure it out XD

So many of my friends trade in games after beating them but I can't bring myself to do it as I know I'll just want to play it again later. I replay games all the time to either play it in a different style (e.g. use different pokemon in a playthough, choose a different occupation in dragon quest 9), or to simply enjoy the story again and be more alert on a play through, taking time to search for collectables, easter eggs etc.

Does anyone else try to go straight to the hardest difficulty possible when a game has multiple difficulties? I actually dislike the idea of unlocking harder difficulties as well. Also wtf hard mode only unlocked on one of b2w2

Personally, with a game like that, I try to 100% it on a pretty easy difficulty, and THEN try a minimalist runthrough on the hardest mode. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

I just bought 5 games on Black Friday yet I feel like playing Skies of Arcadia (doesn't hurt that four of them are 3DS games, battery life and all...)

Last few games I've replayed:

Paper Mario (At least 10 times)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (6 times)
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (4 times)
Star Fox 64 (At least 8 times)
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (6 times)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (3 times)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (4 times)
Fallout: New Vegas (8 times)
handheld Pokemon games (Played through Yellow for the 20th time last week)

I'm currently replaying Metroid Prime and Dante's Inferno.

I never replay games, neither do I reread books. I just can't do it for some reason, if I try I won't even get to 10% before I get distracted and do something else. However I always try to 100% the game on my first try.

Heh, someone who thinks like me :) I often try to go full hardcore on games I play, too, even if it means I have to check walkthroughs and documents on game mechanics for things I missed. In particular it even makes some games like Final Fantasy 2 more enjoyable because you actually know wtf is going on with your character growth.

We can never get all possible experiences out of a game. "Best of both worlds" isn't really accurate, because no matter what, you can only play one way for the first time (unless you get anmesia). So imo I might as well get the most complete and challenging experience out of it, so that when the ending plays I can truly say that I've "finished" the game (caveat: not challenge in the form of handicaps, because I figure, if it's part of the game, might as well use it). I also consider the gameplay and the plot intertwined and really the same thing, and the challenge of a game can make the avatars more relatable because you're really sharing in their plot-related struggles. Though it does get a bit weird if you struggle past a really annoying/hard boss and then the character says it was a breeze.
