Double Battle Metagame.

the whole point was for it to be a suny day user, and i figured since HeatWave has decent BP and hits both it could be viable.

And Rock Slide was chosen over stone edge becuase of the flinch rate to help Victreebel set up.

I dshould have made that more omnipresent...
 
Thats the hoel point of using heat wave and boosting it up some. I mena if it can viably use FireBlast under regular conditions then it should be able to do the same under the sun with a 100 BP move.
 
I see your reasoning. However, Heat Wave is a spread move (meaning it hits more than one opponent in Doubles) and therefore its power is only at 75% of the original.

My doubles combo i thought of for the video game showdown of 2009....to beat the bronzong +smeargle combo.

So typhlosion uses eruption, and weavile uses fake out on smeargle, so it dies. Bronzong will be left, hopefully it dies. Next turn, weavile uses sunny day while typhlosion still uses eruption. I think it would work pretty good....What do you guys think?

if bronzong has heatproof it will survive the eruption and set up trick room, then the next turn his sweepers will be able to hurt or kill both your pokemon, since niether has exceptional defenses
 
How often does Bronzong carry Heatproof? Earthquake is a much more common move than Lava Plume/Heat Wave/Eruption, and its impressive defences means it rarely has to fear the former two of those.
 
Yeah, but I also know of people using Heatproof because Levitate is widely known as Bronzong's primary ability. A decent tactic to mislead the opponent...
 
You can poke holes in any doubles combination. It's much more likely for Bronzong to have Levitate than Heatproof. If Bronzong has Levitate and you try Earthquake, you're screwed. If Bronzong has Heatproof and you try Eruption, you're screwed. It's a fifty-fifty shot at worse. Eighty-twenty at best. Most would go for the immunity over the damage lowering ability. Levitate is considered the superior ability and for good reason.
 
Now that more pokemon are packing Heatwave, Heatproof is going to be used more often on Brozong and for a good reason. Heatwave and Eruption have the possibility of having their BP Doubled, making it safer to run a Bulkier Relaxed Heatproofed one over a Sassy Levitator. If you carry Brozong along with another pokemon that obviously can evade or won't recieve much Damage from quake, such as Swampert or Claydol, they will mentally think of their Earthquake as useless and not use it or have to choose whether to use it or not, knowing it might only hit one pokemon for little damage. Personally, I would run Heatproof since the only way my opponent will know that it isn't flying is Brozong gets hit with a Ground attack, used a pokemon with a fire move that OHKO's Brozongs without Heatproof 100% of the time, or copies my ability one way or another.
 
Yes, Heat Wave will be more prominant in doubles now due to the Platinum tutors.

I have seen Bronzong with both Heatproof and Levitate, but I generally assume that it has Levitate. Sometimes I use Earthquake anyways just to hit the other guy, and I get a pleaseant surprise when Bronzong takes damage. :P
 
i did the calcs for Heatwave. Since it has 100 BP to start, under the sun it gets a 50% boost. So now we have 150. Then sinc eit spreads you get the 75%, whihc puts it at 113 BP. It's only 7 shy of fire blast, which isnt that bad.

To be fair, Fire Blast would also receive the Sunny Day boost, making its power 180.

Well, on the one hand, you probably don't have to worry about switching Bronzong into any attacks, like you would in Single battles.

On the other hand, you'd have to make sure both pokemon you use in a pair are immune (or at least APPEAR TO BE immune) to Earthquake, otherwise your opponent will probably try the attack anyway, and then the jig is up.

So here's my second attempt for a double battle team. On the first turn Electrode will use Taunt so nothing like Trick Room or Sunny Day will come out while Crobat sets up a substitute. On the next turn Trode will use Expolsion and Crobat's sub will take the damage then Crobat will use Rain Dance. Send in Kingdra or Toxicroak and wreak havoc.

Well, what if the opponent leads with, or switches out to, a Ghost and/or someone like Bronzong. You then have wasted two of your Pokémon just to set up Rain Dance. If this is a 4 vs 4 battle, the opponents then has the advantage, and can easily pull in something to Discharge, EQ or Explode on Kingdra and Toxicroak.

The best way to test Doubles-teams is probably Pokémon Battle Revolution, where you can get random 2vs2-battles on WiFi. If you don't have PBR, you'll just have to ask people.

That is a good point. I don't know about you, but I tend to think that certain Pokemon are obvious Exploders. Usually Electrode are worthless after the set up (save perfectly accurate Thunders) and have the tendency to blow up.

This is what I'm trying to do for the leads to a doubles team I'm planning to try and raise. With Togekiss and Bronzong leading, who in the right mind would try to earthquake? :D I mean really.

Worst case scenario is someone learning that Zong has heatproof and in subsequent battles they exploit that with EQ - having another Zong with Levitate and an equally suiting moveset (maybe have this one able to attack instead of only being able to explode, etc).

On the note of thinking about my team... sunny day seems to be really popular in doubles, no?
